Annapolis Valley Regional School Board

The organization as a whole lacks transparency. They rule their employees with an iron fist and it shows. It’s all about high paid salaries of regional office staff and administrators and very low paid salaries for custodians, and cafeteria workers. Regional office is all about protecting the old boys club. The organization cares nothing about parents or community support unless it makes them look good. Management does not take feedback well and they are not team players interested in any type of collaboration. They do not put their outlines mission and value statements about students into practice. It’s just statements put forth with no real meaning behind them. 

I teach early intervention in Literacy as well as ELA and Visual Arts to various grades. The job is busy, challenging at times and rewarding. Teaching young children to read and write is a joy!  I get along well with my administrative team, parents and co-workers. Many new teachers come to me for support,  after 34 years in the field. I feel valued and supported.
I am finishing my career in Nova Scotia and looking for a teaching experience in the North. I have been lured there since the beginning of my career and now that my family is raised and gone, I have the time and energy to work in the North!

What is the best part of working at the company?
having your own parking place ,nothing at all , little experience from management only makes job harder

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
after working for 30 years at company ,there was no clear future

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
environment is low workers made to work alone and due tasks as quickly as possible

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
nights is same every night as far as work goes day shift is more pleasant

A typical day at work would be Morning Business first where you complete attendance online, take mealticket money and have announcements and O Canada. Then we have our Language Arts Block with a Guided Reading Focus, read aloud, independent reading and share time. Next would be Math then Discovery with specialist periods for Music and Phys.Ed.

I love this job. I go to different school. I work casual. I get to know a lot of staff and lots of kids.  Lot of theses children need lot of help and structure in their day. I follow direction to a T.

enjoyed working there but was never able to land a fulltime contract, despite having been able to cover on numerous occasions for fulltime teachers who had to be away on medical leave.

great place to work, I did find that I did not get as many oppruituniutes to advance my skills as a lot of what was required was maintence work. My fellow coworkers were great at showing me the ropes

Annapolis valley regional centre of education is a great place to work, the hours are great , supportive management team, great benefits lots of training and support

Can be a VERY toxic environment.  If you're  not in the right click...you've got a target on your back. Pretty uncomfortable feeling,  especially  when it's management and your union rep.
