If you like to work long hours and not be paid for them please join this company. Every position and person is disposable as long as they make budget. They don’t train they pay based on skill or what you do. It’s a who you know company. They have multiple long time staff that make significantly lower in the wage category then new people they bring in. They will only hire if you score high on a personality test that is geared for suck ups. Your not allowed to have your own opinion and be ready to hand over all your ideas to the senior management with no praise. Senior management rarely visit the branches unless the are terminating or have to make a appearance because they are mandated even though most live close to a branch. They are so far disconnected from the front line team members that bust their butts to service the customers and keep the lights on. Oh and they cap increases as 3% per year regardless of inflation or market and call it a merit increase. Don’t be fooled. There are some great people and a wrath of knowledge from the General Managers down and once other companies realize this this talent will be gone!!!

I didn't know much about warehousing or shipping/receiving when I started working here but I have learned a lot since I have started working here. I also learned that management will not support you and will talk badly about you after you leave. There is a toxic work culture here that is hurting the business. If you aren't part of the "in" crowd then forget about ever advancing. Management takes forever to look into issues you bring up with them but when they bring up an issue with you it needs to be addressed that second. New hires get paid more than the people that have been there for years and the yearly raise does not even cover inflation. It's a good place to work if you want to learn about the job but don't stay for more than a year or you will be screwed over. They also don't pay overtime but when they do it is a month late coming in. 

Shop is good, well equipped with large equipment but poorly equipped with small things like drill bits and light bulbs.  Management is extremely pushy for production and at the same time telling you to slow down for safety sake.  Procedures are difficult to follow and full of holes, yet the person following is blamed for the discrepancies.  No respect for staff on the floor or apprentices from leadership.  They might sweet talk you to get you in the door but soon the true colours of the work culture start to show.  If you're not willing to stay past your scheduled shift while on your own time, don't expect to get ahead or feel appreciated.  If you want to work somewhere that obsesses about a few minutes here and there not on your tools, then you'll like it here.

This place is very toxic. Employees are encouraged to talk behind each other’s backs and that’s how you get ahead. If you did not work with management at other jobs you will not be treated fairly. I came from a shop that was purchased by applied industrial, they bought it for the equipment not the personnel. All of my ex coworkers have been either terminated or laid off.  I am a machinist and was measured as if I was a journeyman millwright to which I couldn’t compete.   Was told by management that my training was wrong and backwards even though most of what I know stemmed from college or from on the job training. Was blamed for several Deficiencies in the machines although it was not my fault that they were in disrepair. Never in my life have I ever been treated so poorly.

Management is the main drawback of this company, especially in the Western part of the country. From District Managers upward.
I worked there for several years and had a new boss every 1 to 2 years I was there.
It was stressful and there wasn't much help. They would not hire new employees when old ones left (mostly quit), which left the branch short staffed often.
They hired people that were not experienced and not suited to the position when they did hire, putting even more stress on the people that knew what they were doing.
They also did not provide raises, even for cost of living/inflation, so each year you work there, you are making less money than the year before.
It would be a good place to work for 1-2 years and then move on.

I have worked for applied for many years. The one good thing I can say is that you can have no doubt in them not deposited your cheque on time.

If you are into service work this is not the company. They are very focused on just moving product, and not providing service to their customers. 

Management seems to just be interested in climbing a corporate ladder which is very long at this top heavy company. It has appeared over the years, no change comes quick or at all. 

So if your a person who likes to provide customer service and likes to bring new fresh ways of doing things, this is definitely not the company for you. 

If you just want benefits and a pay cheque every twice a month with low to average pay, then I would suggest applying.

Nothing they micro manage you 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Knowing they don't want you to come back after Maternity leave, once you miss longer than a week of work your replaced and no longer needed.

Put you against other co workers to see who's quicker

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Fast paced, forced stretches in the morning, they say it's not mandatory but if you don't stretch and do everything they say they will fire you eventually for any reason they can find.

Culture is amazing. People are good and management is amzing

Not much to explain. Its fast pace but still good place to work.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Starting the day with the breif about task to be accomplished and then work and follow up throughout the day to establish that.

My experience here was mixed, to say the least. Applied as a company is suffering from an identity crisis. Turnover is a huge problem at all levels. That said, pay was good. Benefits were good. They want all employees to take an intensive training course with an online component that eats away at your time. Then you’re sent to Toronto or Saskatoon for a week for even more intensive training. There is no increase in pay at the end of the course. There’s no clear ability to advance in the company. Management is a revolving door. 

Management is a joke. They are arrogant and self absorbed. Favouritism is rampant here. If you don’t suck up to management you will be destroyed and let go. Wage is below average. Never any gratitude for work well done but when you make a small mistake they use it against you and record it. If you ask for help you are told to “ figure it out”. No room for growth unless you are in with management. All in all a sad and depressing place to work. I was happy to move elsewhere.
