Working here had its checks and balances, as i did enjoy having the 12 hour shifts (more days off). My starting rate was also pretty good. That's about where the positives ended for me. 

The shift work was absolutely brutal on my sleep and health (physical and mental), as I was expected to shift between night shift and day shift once about every week, meaning I never really had a consistent sleep schedule at all. I know shift work in general can be like this, but i did not understand the need to have us shifting so often. It was bad. 

As a temp employee, I always had the lingering feeling that I wasn't trusted, when I always did my best and had good intentions (Ex: you aren't allowed to go get important tools you lose like cleavers, you have to ask a supervisor). I was consistently treated like I was just there to waste people's time (which, ironically, ended up happening because of how negative my experience was). Some employees were very polite and cordial, however some definitely weren't. At times I felt a lot of social tension between my coworkers. It was not hard to tell a lot of them were not happy.   

They do encourage advancement because they are so understaffed, which could be a plus for some, but for whatever reason only certain positions offered raises while others did not, which did not make sense to me. They also seem to not let certain people advance, even when (in my opinion) they seemed like very nice, responsible and hardworking employees.

There are much better places to work. 

Pros:
Free coffee/tea
Benefits package is one of the best I've seen 
Most people are good to work with.
Some days are busy, some are slow depending on orders and if any machines break down, the demand balances out like most production facilities.
The PPE vending machine makes obtaining basic PPE easy and efficient (gloves, safety glasses, etc) 
Lunch room has a kiosk you can purchase snacks, sandwiches, or drinks from. 


Cons:
Not guaranteed full time, unpaid days off happen.
No seperate sick pay, you have to use your vacation or go without pay when sick.
PPE can be difficult to obtain if not available in the vending machine and need to speak to the safety officer, especially if the safety officer is on vacation or sick as there is no alternate designate. 
The same people get available over time as it's done by senority, you likely won't be offered very often if at all. 

-Busy, fast paced ,stressful

-Lip service in when you start...it fades.

-If you have friends or family that work in the "Office" you will likely get away with literally murder(OSHA VIOLATIONS INCLUDED)

-Its held together buy the frayed fabric of the employee's of the Arclin / Coverwrite acquisition and they HATE what they did to the work environment.(Cut staff to 60% - Benefits cut - scarce supplies)
(i.e. Perpetually short staffed because of holidays and medical leave (you will miss or get late breaks beyond 5 hours and they don't care)

Temperatures will rise to 50c and they don't even adhere to their own heat stress program(Tried monitoring the temp with thermometer it was removed!) 

Unless you have family or friends in high places at location I wouldn't recommend this deplorable outfit.

co-workers were good,except for one or two

having to crawl around on the floor and the stress of having to be successful at the job in 2 weeks 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
seems laid back at first,but then if you don't get it within 2 weeks your kind of stuck in packing,which means no raise

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
long and alot of work,most companies dont make you gogogogogogo for 12 hours,these guys do

Majority of the people you work with in the production floor are great people 
The place is shadowed by minimal educated management that believes success is built on threats and aggression 
They will manipulate employees no matter how long they have worked there trying to for each person against the other 
Also no regard for injuries or health wether it be physical or mental

Pensions is good, benefits were good until they switched providers then everything went downhill. Employees could be better, everyone acts like they're 40 going on 4, management is non existent, and when they are there they're total jobs and bullies. Work is hot, they provide nothing to help with the heat other than water. They cant make up their minds on scheduling. Keeps changing things around when they feel (8hour shift to 12) possibly closing. Stay away

The training. The supervisors.

The heat. When treaters go down.


What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Close like family. Each team are close knit in time.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Very hot. Hard work but pays off and I felt good about it.

They are going to end up shut down instead of keeping good trained employees, they hire and let go so many temps.  I believe they will go under again I got to see what was going on in there unhappy operators that are forced to use machinery that frequently jams/creates problems. Management/Team leads are non-existent, and really need to give there head a shake as does the CEO of the company.

Was formerly Coveright until bought out by Arclin Surfaces. After about a year or so production at Cobourg plant was cut by about fifty percent due to shifting of orders to other locations and lost customers due to unsatisfactory product. Very poor management which seems to have no direction and very stressful place to work when you don't know if you have a job one week from the next.

Arclin Surfaces has allowed me to gain very valuable work skills such as Data Management and to build my relationship skills with co-workers, as well as the testing process of the finish products we make.
