I have worked with the good people at the Ark as a volunteer and a staff member in multiple positions. The work can be both very challenging and very rewarding. We’re helping people at the most difficult point in their lives here. They can be grumpy, rude and even aggressive. I try to remind myself that as hard as it can be to work with them, they’re lives are that much more difficult. 

Most of the staff here are incredibly passionate and want to help the community and each other.  The key word is passion. You have to have a big heart and care about the community you are helping here. 

These people have served meals to our community every single day without fail. This is done using mostly donations!

People like to complain about management but I have always been supported. They’re not perfect but they care and they do their best with what they can. Kinda like the rest of us. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Supporting marginalized part of the community. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Can be a violent and stressful environment 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Good team of people on the floor to work with who care about clients. Upper management is absent from day to day operations.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Very busy and must be always alert of your surroundings. Feeding people, cleaning, giving out clothing, showers, breaking up fights.  Job requires you to provide CPR for overdoses when needed which can be upsetting. Job is not for everyone cause of things you would see on a daily basis.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The connection built with not only the community we serve but with the front line workers and seeing the heart they put into each other.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Thr consistent change and lack of communication about the changes being made.

It can be extremely stressful at times but also more rewarding than words can explain .

Busy heartfelt rewarding sometimes emotional

People we help to live another day

Poor management...keep staff informed..engaged..included in the 'purpose

Lack of focus by senior managers

Get there..help..go home....feel ignored

Absolutely nothing. Horrible leadership

The terrible leadership.  They don’t care about their employees

Extremely volatile and stressful.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful and unorganized. No set work schedule

This is not the job title for this position None of the requirements are part of the job but you are mostly a server, cleaner & kitchen worker. NO part of outreach work is included in a shift...
It's all work like any minimum wage restaurant job & communication is sorely lacking between management & staff

They are very disorganized and non communicative with staff

Running up and down stairs all day

I volunteered their for many years and then worked there. I learned about the struggles of life that  the unfortunate people face every day. the management was very professional and very helpful in all situations. The smiles on the peoples faces was the greatest benefit.

The staff is excellent and you feel like you belong to a family. 
Working with the community gives you a chance to be exposed to many different stories, some of which are just incredible.  Working here has been so rewarding, challenges you to look at yourself and look at how you can improve as a person.  It truly is a place where you get to understand the motto "It takes a village". 

What ever difference you're expecting to make.. you won't. Program Management is arrogant. This isn't a team, its who kiss butt the most. CM are amazing to work with though. The organization horrible. Management horrible. Will change amont of hours, even keeping your job at the drop of a hat. They dont support the community well and come off as bullies.
