A typical day at work is inspecting products for defects and ensuring production keeps going. The work itself isn't difficult, and most people learn quickly. It isn't an assembly line-styled plant; you'll work with large equipment. Work culture is a hit and miss. For the most part people get along but it's a small plant so talk and rumours spread very fast. 

Pay is alright, benefits are good, and pension is  terrible. Very warm plant, the summer months are brutally hot. Plant is very safe, you're wearing a lot of PPE. Make sure you can work 12 hours shifts before you apply or you're wasting your time and theirs. Most people leave after a year.

Managers are a big hit and miss depending on department. Supervisors are very nice but sometimes make questionable calls. Astrex does not do much about troubled employees and expects good employees to pick the slack up with little to no additional compensation. This is probably the 2nd biggest reason for their high turnover rate.

All in all, Astrex is an mediocre place. They do many things well but can immensly improve. There are reasons most of the good reviews come from management and HR and not production workers.

It's a great place to work. Like any company that goes through massive growth in a short period of time, there will be challenges. However we're getting over some of those growing pains and really coming into our own and re-establishing our culture, clarifying our goals and delivering clear plans to be successful in future.

Astrex Inc. is consistently exceeding expectations of how it is supporting its employees, communities and customers and I am truly proud to be a part of this group.

Quality Manager does not provide proper instructions. He gives one set of instructions one day and suddenly switches it the next day. He will shout at you if you dont follow his change in instructions.
There is no career growth since the Manager does not believe the technicians are qualified. He always hires someone from the outside. 
Way too much workload and zero appreciation for anything. 
Not a good place if you want a good career.

For the most part the work is so easy a Lego block could do it. The primary downfall of working there is the 12 hour shifts making home life an impossibility and the general lack of calves. Being told you will have a future and room for growth is a very common lie management likes to use to keep the very few dependable employees from looking for other work. 

A typical day is slow, with most of the staff doing little but chatting and being on the phone.
Aluminum is processed here, but at a slow rate, and 24/7, for whatever reason. 
Anyone willing to show up is likely to be hired and retained. Incredibly lazy employees flourish. Hourly pay is poor. Work is dull and repetitive.  
Some people get steady shifts, but most have to rotate. 

No reason to stay here for long . The turn over rate is insane.  The pension and benefits package are a joke. 12 hour continental shifts . Working weekends for straight time. It’s extremely hot and management has no idea what they’re doing. If you want to have no life and get nothing out of working here. Then go for it !

Positive culture, supportive management and an overall positive work environment. Lots of opportunities for growth as well. Strong emphasis on Health and Safety, also a very clean manufacturing environment compared to most in the area. 

Decent place could be a lot worse, but definitely could be better. I would absolutely leave and never look back if I could! They do give you free ice sometimes

You'll learn nothing. The company promises to hire from within but never does. Management doesn't respect anyone who is in a labour position and does not listen to anyone's thoughts or opinions.
