Athabasca Catering

Working for Athabasca Catering was great, at first it was challenging getting used to long hours, but it wasnt too long before i loved the long hours, hours always were different sometime i worked nights as a breakfast cook, along with a Baker and 1 General Help, I did most of the cooking and and cleaning, it was a good experience. During the days i would do several different things, from pot washing to serving to salad lady, to 3rd cook and occasionally 2nd cook. wherever I was needed is where I went. My days started at 7 am until 9 pm with an hour break in the afternoon, working in the camp life was great, food was excellent people were very nice, the rooms that you were given were great.

I enjoyed working with Athabasca because of the good hours a day of working, the people I met and had the pleasure of learning from and spending time with on a day to day basis. It was a good environment and the camps we're not so crowded so our jobs were smooth and punctual, and the food we prepared was always on time and ready for the client. Making memories with my coworkers was my favorite part of the jobs, I believe having good relationships in the kitchen brings out the best service because we communicate and understand each other more better. I learned a lot from soups, to meals, to breakfast, and how to operate kitchen machinery. I learned time management and had practice on client service.

A very dynamic company with good vision. They offered multiple educational courses and seminars to increase your knowledge to become current in todays working world.
The salary was fair and the work environment was excellent.
I worked 19 days per month and had more than enough time off.

I really like it when we are busy because time goes faster that way.
I learned how to prepare food for the next day and how to use the equipment there.
The management was very supportive and helpful when you needed help.
My co-workers were cooperative and understanding.
The hardest part of the job was getting up early in the morning, but I got used to it.

Local hire help could be a little under achieving and a bit stressful

Working in union setting some difficult things when dealing with staff

Long hours minimal staffing clients are great

My enjoyable part of the job was working week in week out, getting to know my co-workers who became really good friends to me, working 11 hours a day was pretty busy but never got bored which is why i liked it with breaks in between here and there. I learned a lot about team work, helping others if we finished our job early just to keep us busy, because we can't just sit around and do nothing.

A typical day of work includes dealing with products for both Janitorial and Housing, Restocking vending machines, Conducting tool box meetings, Informing management of current issues brought to my attention either through my co-workers or noticing for myself and Helping others in their various duties scattered across the mine site.

in the morning i portion desserts and keep track of filling coffee and checking laundry.
then for the rest of the day i fill and clean the dinning room well keeping track of many related things.

I've learned to listen carefully, keep track of my surroundings and to be quick on my feet.

It is a good place to work even though it was a short job and casual. I learned to make sandwiches and bag vegetables, cut cheese using a slicing machine. I learned to clean pots and dishes which was pretty hard to keep up at times of rush hour. I enjoyed the food and the weight room and gym , and  the sports you can do.

Working for Athabasca Catering was an experience for me to get use to the camp life. a simple 7 on and 7 off shift with 11 hrs a day shift. i enjoy my job with the company.
