Initial Contact: Thank you for reaching out with such a compelling opportunity. The information provided about the role and the company was comprehensive and greatly appreciated.

Interview Process: The interviews were well-coordinated based on mutual availability, and I received prompt feedback throughout. The Mental Agility/logical reasoning and aptitude tests, including the unique McQuaig word survey, were excellent.

Selection and Onboarding: I was pleased with the offer and my compensation. The onboarding process was seamless, making my transition into the company smooth and enjoyable.

I don’t have any major recommendations, but I would suggest maintaining consistent communication with candidates after each interview round. There was a slight delay following my first round, likely due to scheduling availability, but the process proceeded smoothly after that. Ensuring timely updates at every stage can further enhance the candidate experience.

I worked at Atlantic Packaging Products as a Process Engineering Co-op for a year, and I really enjoyed my time there. It provided me with valuable exposure to the daily responsibilities of a process engineer. While the theoretical knowledge from school is useful, I quickly realized that the actual job requires a different skill set—mainly hands-on problem-solving, communication, and collaboration across various departments.

This role taught me that being a process engineer is an experience-driven career, requiring strong integration of different fields. It also reinforced the importance of on-site investigations and solid teamwork. The pulp and paper industry, in particular, offers a great opportunity to develop big data analysis skills, as it relies on DCS rather than PLC systems (which I now work with in my current industry). I was fortunate to gain hands-on experience with the DOMO dashboard, which allowed me to create high-level data analyses for upper management and technical teams.

However, if you're considering industries like pulp & paper, petroleum, steelmaking, or energy, be prepared for a relatively harsh working environment and the need to collaborate effectively with operators. Overall, this experience gave me a strong foundation and insights that continue to benefit me in my career today.

Tiffield location - Typical factory still managing as if it were in the '80/90's where Supervisor/Management brow beat, yell and have cautionary discussions which are supposed to motivate you - THEY DON'T!!!

Quality is considered secondary until a product is returned by a customer and then Management looks at which employee to blame.

Safety is only completed as a required procedure and to ensure the box is ticked for audit purposes. It's surprising there have not been severe accidents. When there are accidents it is usually phrased to insinuate the employee was the cause.

Production/quantity is the only thing that matters.

There are no formal processes or document control. If there are issues/concerns, Supervisors do not like things documented.

For new employees, probation period is approx. 6 months. 

Desperately needs a culture revamp with serious training for Supervisors/Management. Alternatively stay the course and continue to cycle through employees.

I worked there as a maintenance manager (the shortest work position in my last four decades of work experience in the industry), a new position created by the company HQ that PrePrint or Colorpack managers were not ready to accept or support at all. They preferred their old-school style of doing things.

A few employees who have been there a long time dictate everything to the management, and management would follow them without any precise investigation. There are big gossips and big ears to listen to these gossips.

To summarize the work environment, I should mention the following signs:

There are no boundaries around work. 
People don’t trust each other.
There’s no room to make mistakes.
People treat each other with contempt.
The interpersonal relationships aren’t healthy.
The interpersonal relationships aren’t healthy.
People frequently feel gaslighted.
People regularly experience physical symptoms of work stress.
People are disengaged, and turnover is high.

Work environment toxicity in this plant is mostly created by the same people who complain about other coworkers frequently.

Stay and navigate the toxicity, or leave.

Working for the Brampton Atlantic plant for 9 years and it was the worst experience I have ever had. When we first started there was a union already in place which question how unionized we were, I start there as a trainer of twelve employees and was informed that I would move up in the company. As everything progressed there my manager at the time was only moving or hiring people and family up in key positions. As time went on I noticed that the supervisors were making employees fight amongst each other, even are union stewart's were running in the office to complain agaist there fellow brother over small stuff.In 9 years of working for Atlantic they went throught 24 supervisors and 10 Managers. When I decided to leave I was number 2 on the sonority list out of 125 people. I truly tried to make its work for myself and just couldn't handle feel used anymore and not getting any help from anyone, I quite enjoy working in printing business and hope to stay somewhere close to it, And truly believe that the more you learn in your trade, The more you become an asset to your company by showing them you want to stay and have a future with them.

As an intern your typical day varies from task to task from helping machine operators to remedial tasks such as cleaning areas multiple times to pass time.  The hardest part of the job was dealing with the rotating shifts as they switched weekly.  Co-workers varied significantly as there were some that worked extremely hard and were willing to work with you and teach you what you need to do.  Some co-workers would yell at very discriminatory and difficult to work with because they expected you to know everything as a student interning in a factory for the first time.  Management is very disorganized as you could be yelled at for doing a task by a supervisor when you were just assigned that task by another supervisor.  All in all it is not a place you would want to work for as there are too many politics and discrimination in this company will drain you and have you wishing you could leave.  People in management will treat you as if you are less of a person of them by their tone and the way they address you.

Zero job security even after probation. The facility literally looks, feels and smells like a abandoned asylum. Very dim lighting, constantly avoiding water leaks from roof, highly dangerous environment that needs government inspections ASAP. Management and Hr avoid hourly employees including seeking ppe. 
They have an extremely high turnover rate at Whitby mill because of there desire to fire employees instead allow them to make it into union and acquire benefits. 
Very poor company to work for, pay is good, but your job is always on the line. 
The environment is one of the most depressing I’ve ever experienced. Lighting is very dim, your working with literally garbage and recycling from all industries, very wet slippery concrete floors, facility in very poor repair. 

They’re entice you with the prospect of a new mill being installed but don’t let it fool you. The pay is reasonable, the hours, environment, and management are extremely lacking.

My typical day at work is very engaging and knowledge impacting. I have taken a deep dive into the purchasing process and the P.O system which is very helpful. However, I have seen actions to adopt best practices in purchasing which I must commend.

I have the P.O processing stages at Atlantic packaging. I have also learnt the requirement of the purchasing team to the overall objective of the business. 

The management is open and receptive to input of the employees and they are people friendly which drives optimal results. The work culture is a type embraces diverse work culture no minding if male or female, race or nationality which is a very strong tool in the organization's growth.

For me the hardest part of the job is my commute time because i stay a bit far from the office but with the hybrid working method it cushions the effect.

The warm energy and collaboration between employees is a big plus to the organization. You feel inclusive because you see the effect of your effort on the business goal.

After working at Atlantic for several years, I realized that although it was a great company to work for(the people make it a great company)...it lacked leadership when it came to great managers of departments and executives.  They do not value loyal employees. You are just a number. They allow managers to mistreat their employees and do nothing about it.  HR is a complete joke.  Does nothing to support their employees.  The owner is hands on which is rare now a days. He is a great mentor. 
The work culture is most departments was ok, in the department where I worked it was terrible. Everyone was there just to work.  Not there for the company, and that is because the manager ( or lack there of) brought down the department.  This manager should of exited years ago and for some odd reason never did.  
The most enjoyable part of the job was the relationships you built with other people, suppliers, customers.

Good part is the successful and strong operations, great production assets. 

Some of corporate functions are miserable, just worst in my experience.

Office is a factory one, in poor condition.  

Don’t anticipate receiving a benefits booklet or an orientation session. You’ll need to contact HR just to check your unused vacation days, and that's the tip of the iceberg when it comes to HR-related issues. 

Don't be surprised to meet a 'senior' manager with experience level of a university graduate. Or a senior making 'jokes' about different nationalities. Incompetent mediocrities busy with politics. No surprise that the management's rating here is so low.

Severely outdated corporate systems. If you're interested in stepping back 20 years and engaging in practices that most companies have left behind, while not adding any new skills to your resume, this might be the place for you.
