AutoNation as far as the service department is concerned, overall is a decent place to work. Sales department has an incredible amount of turnover. Parts department from what I can tell is the most stable personnel wise.

To be content with working here all you have to have is low expectations of the company and management. There is no direction or goal from any level of management. Meetings are very few and far in-between. As the internet meme's note, you can fix a thousand cars and no one bats an eye, one car comes back and everyone looses their mind.

Don't expect for problems and issues to be addressed with any sense of urgency, if they are addressed expect 6 months to a year for anything to be attempted. Management and service advisors seem jaded and are trying to survive the end of the month, god forbid there is a off month. If you are the type that wants to help improve the culture, moral and facility you are better off with another group.

There seems to be a push for unskilled technicians, who get little to no training. Then in turn put extra work on everyone else, due to their lack of experience or skills. Movement within the company will take many years and even then you have to be "liked" by a more senior manager to move up, otherwise you are staying where you are at.

Pay is competitive, paid time off is within the industry norm. Benefits on the other hand are very expensive compared to other local dealers, 1/2 the cost at other non AutoNation dealerships. As far as other company benefits you get 4 or 5 paid holidays off a year, but if you want to take some time off around the holidays, you better be the first or it's not gonna happen.

Best parts of the job is you get to do what you love (if working for a car company is your thing).
Worst part of the job is policies and management gets in the way of doing your job. Expect to work long hours to make a good paycheck, working the average 8 hour days will still net you  a decent income, but nothing to write home about.

AutoNation is a great company to work for....once you find the right dealership or collision center to work for.  Not all dealership management is the same or fair.  Make sure to read YELP reviews before applying at certain dealerships.  I wish that I had.  Overall, AutoNation has good benefits, if you can afford them.  I'm a single income earner at minimum wage.... so benefits really make it tight.  I like the AutoNation corp. for their work, donation and efforts on Cancer sponsorship.  And although they say they have great opportunities to move up, I've yet to see this possible.  The best thing about AutoNation is that they have locations in many states that you can transfer to.  However, the down side to transferring is that they don't tell you what the pay rate is until you inquire (which means you have to apply for the position first) and then if you do, your manager AND general manager want to know why you are asking and already looking to replace you.

Everyday I help guests with their vehicles through test drives and educating them about our vehicles.
I've learned that when working with many departments, when the correct information is given to help guests as well as the technicians, vehicles get repaired more efficiently. Management for the most part
helps all associates when there is a problem and when new information is available to help the associates, it is given promptly. The hardest part of the job is the physical portion, which is performing
heavy tasks and services that require a lot of strength and the mental capacity to consistently deliver on
the promise of delivering the vehicles back to guests better than when it came in for service. The best
part of the job is when performing your tasks and the vehicle gets repaired and the guest has a smile on their face because now they are happy with their vehicle.

A Typical day as Customer Finance Services manager consists of helping Customers protect the 
vehicle and the customer from the perils of ownership
Assisting Sales Managers with daily duties of test drives, structuring loans and completing all the 
paperwork that entails.
Over the almost 6 years i have been at AutoNation, I have learned selling Cars is a ton of fun and you get to meet a lot of cool people. 
The management is quick to help and is always there when I have a question.
The hardest part of the job is that usually you don't get Weekends off, but then again having days off in the middle of the week means less people where you want to go anyway.
The best part of the job would be great income and a fun place to work, the people here are not only co-workers but also friends.

Embarrassed to say how AutoNation think about employees that actually are face of the company and presenting company. Sales department is least appreciated. Sales department has long hours and stressful contact with clients every day, but are paid in way that I can't even explain. Appreciation for knowledge, culture of Mercedes Benz clients, treatment of employees is so low that we are loosing some nice people but hiring totally inexperience people and even that is fine but no training at all. Think this enough to said and my company should respect Sales Department much more, because they are on the rain and Sun exposed and trying the best at the knowledge to make clients happy which is not always an easy task.

A typical day is to go to work and wash cars/help customers that come in for their appointment/maintain the pace of the work environment. Co-workers are pretty down to earth but the management doesn't care if we're down a couple guys to get the job done. Company complains about not finishing a customers car even though we're very understaffed. The enjoyable part of my day is meeting new co-workers and seeing how long they'll last under a lot of stress.

lots of drama. but I have worked for different dealerships drama comes with the job. management is ok leave you alone as long as you are doing your job but they do hire people who are not qualify to do the work and sometimes get into an empowerment mode where they just try to get too much involved when they just want to get on you for no reason.  over all its a goo place to work that's why I'm still here. benefits can be way better. when you live in California and  have to pay over 24,000 dollars a year for family coverage that's way too much.

TYPICAL DAY AT WORK FOR AN AUTOMOTIVE TECHICIAN IS 8AM TO 5PM. I HAVE COME TO LEARN THAT THROUGH HARD WORK AND PROPER PRODUCT EDUCATION THIS JOB CAN BE VERY REWARDING,  AS A FLAT RATE PAID TECHNICIAN.  HARDEST PART OF THE JOB IS TO NOT BE FAMILIAR WITH THE PRODUCT THAT YOU'RE WORKING ON,  WHICH WILL LEAD TO MORE TIME ON A VEHICLE AND HIGHER RATE OF COME BACK ( RE-DOING THE JOB).  BEST PART OF THIS JOB IS THAT WE ARE WORKING WITH VEHICLE THAT PUSH THE ENVOLPE IN THECHNOLOGY AND THIS MAKES IT A FUN, CREATIVE,  AND THE BEST PART OF THE JOB.

Hours, days, weeks and years fly by. I've learned that the more you learn the more valuable you become to the company and co-workers. Management is usually there to assist with what it takes to get our job done and they are also the ones that help set the tone in our work environment. The hardest thing about working here in my opinion could be having to deal with some of the people, could be customer or co-wokers but in the other hand those two are also what makes it so great

AutoNation is a very process driven company.  For an automotive group, this company is streamlined, provides different avenues to support the stores operation, and truly believes in internal advancement.  This is by far one of the best Automotive groups to work for and can provide a great career path if you are a driven employee who wants to continue to move up within a large corporate company.
