I love working at Aveda, the managers at my store are really the best without a doubt, I’ve never had such understanding and easily reachable (even in late hours) managers. The pay could be better since we don’t get a lot of hours and the training was really fast but I honestly didn’t really mind that since I am a very fast learner and I also learned more from interacting with clients, but the advantages are great. I love that work hours are flexible and that they respect our availabilities when giving us the week schedule ( at my past job, I’ve had a lot of problems with the manager because he didn't respect my availabilities.) I also admire the values practiced at Aveda and believe that they really make this company special. And last but not least, I love the fact that we’re not a lot of employees so there’s no gossip and we’re all close to each other, and even if I’m fairly new, I already felt part of the family from the beginning.

For a retail job, Aveda is fantastic. During my time there, I worked at five locations in two cities. Management were respectful across the board. Although a "sales advisor" doesn't get great pay, it's equivalent to other retail positions and Aveda offers a better work environment and organizational culture than many other retailers; for example, it's a much more fun and easier retail choice than working in apparel. 

Most Aveda customers are fine, but a lot are annoying and impatient. Great co-workers and discounts, however, compensate for that. When I worked at Aveda, the discounts and offers of free products changed frequently but were always fair. 

Sometimes the manger lie to the customers in order to make sales, and it made me feel uncomfortable. You also have to impress or make the manger like you more all the time otherwise he would micromanage you. Hourly pay is not bad but my manger schedule skill is unorganized. There is no other benefits expect discounts on products. In addition, the only good part about this job is you can sit there like receptionist when the store is slow.  

This place is inconsiderate, unappreciative, rude and treats their employees with such favoritism it’s absolutely unprofessional and disgusting. Working here made me realize how important it is to have good and encouraging management because without it you’ll end up miserable. If you want a job that treats you like garbage and isn’t flexible with you you’ve found it.

As an advisor, expect to be an expert in anything related to beauty. Consumers are becoming more educated, and you're going to need to be both better and open to learning. I learned a lot of aesthetic practices to help augment my sales performance, since the products are often pricier than normal. The culture at Aveda values truth, kindness, and holism - you'll have a hard time fitting in if those are not your values.

This job started off really well. I learned a lot about customer service and the product and how a salon runs. I had been at this job for eight months before one of the managers came back from maternity leave. Since then the store does not run smoothly, there is too much gossip, we never get the schedule on time and there is not much support from the manager. The rest of the team is great to work with, however the management is not.

Aveda is a great company in terms of its global initiatives and impact.  Their work for the environment and people around the world is commendable, but it's unfortunate that they don't look after their workers in the same respect.  We're constantly overworked, underpaid, and under appreciated.  The standard that they expect you to keep the store and and how you treat your customers is not equivalent to how they treat you.

When staff was being bullied and the store had issues with gossip and not working HR and upper management was not on your side. Theyre all about Sales. So they kept an assistant manager that stole products, time and bullied the staff,  and allowed a toxic culture to continue. It was slow, and the staff was toxic, lazy and complained about basic work tasks as if it was so hard to do a simple task. 

Had the best 3 years of my life at the Montreal EC location. The manager there is awesome  and understanding. Great team environment. I still miss that job now that I have graduated and moved to my career position. Aveda clients are pretty calm and nice.

Aveda at store level is an average job. Extremely slow paced and working a lot alone is a downside but the job itself is easy. Aveda is a very “look” oriented workplace, upper management wants a certain aesthetic for their employees (AKA barbie dolls) and they will attempt to force you out if you don’t meet these expectations. Not worth the hassle for their service cycle and look expectations
