I love fixing robots, and at Avidbots, as the Lead Field Service tech for Western Canada I get to fix robots as much as I want. With one quick slack message I get all the support I need and more, some of the guys who support field ops have become very close friends of mine. The culture is amazing, Avidbots had a lot of turn around and purges and a bunch of other vicious start up stuff but it seems to have all smoothed out now and my experience has been an absolute delight. I love this company, I'm a huge fan of what they're trying to do and very content to be a small part of it. For now, the autonomy and just respect and appreciation I get from my coworkers is like nothing I've experienced in a job before. I feel valued working at avidbots. I wish I could say that about other companies I've worked for previously. I only interact with the other departments on a sort of tangential basis but they're great teams filled with great people who are passionate about robotics. The service team I interact with quite closely and they are top notch. Just pure class and competence. 
It's been a battle to get here but now the accolades are starting to pour in. Avidbots was just recently featured in the 50 best small companies of 2020 by forbes. Theyve gotten past most of their growing pains and everyday Avidbots becomes more professional and more of a well oiled machine.

I love my job, I feel like it's a great fit for me and I can excel, and the management of the service department has my back 110%. 

I have been working at Avidbots as a software engineer for over 3 years now. Overall, I find my work to be quite meaningful and challenging. Our leadership definitely invests in the team and provides frequent and constructive feedback to help us with our job & career path.

The company has a big mission and co-workers are whip smart. Avidbots engineering is definitely not a place for someone who does not love doing great engineering work. Just ok is not ok here.

Company went remote for covid and so you can do your best work and make your work schedule fit with your life schedule.

Software release time can be stressful - but that's par for the course.
Overall, I am quite happy with the management, coworkers and the trajectory of the company.

Working at Avidbots as a Production Technician has been a very positive and rewarding experience. The company provides a professional work environment where teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement are strongly encouraged. I have had the opportunity to develop my technical assembly skills, work with advanced robotic equipment, and collaborate with supportive supervisors and coworkers who are always willing to help.

Avidbots values employee growth and maintains well-organized production processes, clear work instructions, and high-quality standards, which make daily operations efficient and structured. Overall, it is a great place to build hands-on manufacturing experience while contributing to innovative robotic technology.

AvidBots is an amazing place to work.  There is still a startup mentality, which means that we get to get our hands dirty to deploy and support our customers.  The upside is no two days are the same, and we work with amazing, very helpful and friendly people.  There isn't really a downside, except some of the processes are still being ironed out, so if you like a structured work day, this may not be for you.  If you like moving fast, and being on the cutting edge, with lots of challenges (and lots of support when you need it), this is the place for you.

Leadership is more and more focused ONLY on bottom line. Leadership used to focus on people and product excellence. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Not as good as it used to be, but still better than most compnies

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Work. Prospecting. Research, outreach,  phone, email, social networking

This is not a serious company and the executives are not serious people.  There is no growth strategy here.  Only a toxic work environment, constant 'cost-cutting' and delusional hope that the next 'big deal' will save the company.

In March 2023, there were approx 350 employees when Avidbots announced there would be a “one-time” cut with 50 employees being laid off.

Since March 2023, there have been 3 more rounds of layoffs and now there are only around 200 employees left. 

Lots of instability.  Seems like they're losing all their good people.  I was really excited when I first started working here, but once you look under the hood - you realize that all the optimism and promises are pretty empty.

The CEO doesn't seem to have any backbone.  There's no culture, no enthusiasm any more.  Things haven't panned out over the past year - and the only action they're taking is more layoffs and more budget cuts.  This has really stretched our departments thin and I feel bad for both the employees and the customers.

High level management is inexperienced, job security is not there. Pay is acceptable, but benefits are lacking. Great work life balance, but accountability id not there. Management does not utilize proper channels for reviews and feedback. You may find yourself jobless without having even been warned you weren't performing acceptably.

I enjoy the flexible and relaxed work environment, great coworkers, and variety of work. My manager has supported me in getting more training and learning new skills by taking on more tasks and responsibilities.  It is a rapidly growing company so there are many changes and challenges  but that's a part of growth. 

If you're a contractor they'll use you promise you that you'll have a great future with them etc...but as soon as you start asking more questions and you try contacting your immediate superiors they're never there they throw you under the bus when they need to , they don't  care about u !... hypocrites...  worst company to work for...
