Avis was a great place to work as a student seeking full-time work over the summer. The payment was excellent and I was given all of the hours that I wanted and more. Management was very good and their leadership skills were exceptional. My co-workers were all very co-operative, they set a good example for my first experience of interpersonal relationships in the workplace.
A typical day provided many oppurtunities to learn about the functioning of a business. I usually worked in the garage detailing the rentals, or in the parking lot doing vehicle inspections with the customer. From Monday to Friday my day started at 7am and ended at 6pm. There was a high demand for employee productivity throughout the summer months, so I took one day off each week.
I learned how business is operated in the service industry, and how supply and demand works. I learned how to mainitain a sanitary work environment and how to organize resources and products to achieve maximum productivity. I learned how to socially interact with customers in a way that positively represents the organization that I work for and provides a pleasent experience for the customer. I learned how to keep a positive attitude in the face of adversity and how to turn constructive criticisms into productive self-suggestions.
The hardest part of the job was the fast pace of the business. On a very busy day my co-workers and I would detail upwards of 40 cars, and customers would appear by the handfuls requesting clean rental cars. It was challenging work.
The most enjoyable part of the job was pay day. I was paid $10.00 an hour and it added up very nicely. I felt empowered by the money that I was making. Overall, the Avis Budget Group was a great employer and I'm very happy with my first job.

I HATED working here. Four 10 hour days and three days off seemed awesome. Over $20/hr? Yes please.

Ten hours of people complaining that your coworkers duped them into buying insurance was definitely not awesome.

My manager never helped with customers. Ever. He'd call me from the back office and then whisper and ask what was going on. He never once came out to help. They care about nothing other than making as much money as possible at the employee's expense. If you don't get an upgrade on every rental or sell insurance, you're a failure, and they will let you know it.

The ads posted from the Victoria locations offer over $20/hr. Even in my best months, I never came close to that, and it was never from a lack of trying. Your pay is based on a scaling commission. In order to get even $15/hr, you would have to have a "yield" (upgrades, extras, insurance, etc) divided by your rental days of at least 12 to see a penny of your efforts. Otherwise you are paid barely above minimum wage and see none of the money you made.

The turnover rate is extremely high here because of the poor management who are more money-hungry than caring about their employees. If you want a day off, don't count on it. If you want to take your vacation, you have to tell them two months in advance and constantly remind them of when you're taking it, or they won't schedule your time off.

I was never actually trained for this position. I was just kind of thrown into it, and within a month was working more than half of each shift completely alone at night. 

Better off applying somewhere else and saving yourself the hassle.

This is about the worst place you would ever want to work. You are always understaffed and most of your co-workers are poorly picked and have no interest in even being there. They just take the job until something else comes along. Top management has no idea as to what goes on in the field and should they ever come out to review the location they are unsupportive and negative. Basically management doesn't want to do the job, just collect the returns from your hard work. I have learned that Budget teaches you to be on your guard with management as things are not what they seem and that they can and will turn on you without warning and an investment of your time for your future and the future of the company is unrewarding at best. Most people with any drive don.t mind working hard however if Owners dont care then why make the effort. Management should talk to the "right" people before making the wrong decisions about peoples lives who have invested their lives in working for him. Stop being fooled by those around you. They have been fooling you for years. Management knows who those hard working people are and is capable of fixing these concerns, the question is -- Will it be done? Or is this request for a review just another one of those time wasters? What have you got to loose by investigating ????? You know what you have to gain.

The employees are great. When given respect, 
 autonomy to perform their assigned tasks and empathy as human beings, along with the coaching needed which is  the role of a good leader; they excel. Even though this is a union environment, my success throughout the almost 6 years as a Manager was entirely due to the unwavering support I received from the employees. During peak periods I had 150 + employees scheduled. I have consistently worked towards "leadership  that lifts and empowers others" and it has rewarded me with the success I have experienced.
However, since the past 2 years or so management culture has changed for the worse and is now based on  - lead by intimidation, lies and constant observation of employees. If you are not part of the inner management circle  you are  ostracized and eventually pushed out when opportunity presents itself.
The irony is, all have to go thru a yearly mandatory Code of Conduct review. I am assuming top managers are exempt from this yearly exercise or their position  makes them untouchable.

I worked at budget for 5 1/2 years and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Management is terrible. I wasn’t allowed to advance in the company and when I brought up issues with other staff effecting the work environment and how much was getting done I got blamed for it all. But here’s the kicker! I took two days off for mental health (never did it before that) and the second day I wasn’t there they put up an add for my job. When I returned to work they just tried to make me feel bad for not being there and I was told they wouldn’t discuss why there was a add put up specifically for my job. If you are not favoured by management they treat you terribly and try to belittle you as much as they can. It’s not worth your time or mental health trust me. Not to mention I got injured while working at budget so I had modified duties as per my doctor and multiple notes that I brought in but my manager still tried to pressure me into doing tasks that could further my injury (which of course I refused and got shamed for). Management at the franchised locations in Winnipeg do not care about there staff at all. I’d steer clear of this place.

Managers do not have proper management training other than other Budget managers who do not have proper management training. Opportunities for advancement do not really exist for Service Reps and Counter Reps. Company only cares about making money, not about the customers needs or it's lower level employees...other than they make the company money. BC Budget's ethics towards customer service are lacking. Lower level staff were the saving grace for my experience here. You cannot trust any of the upper management for the Okanagan. Wages are low, they try to win you over by offering salary however it does not change from the original low starting wage. Incentives only make a difference if you work at an airport location. Low pay, no vacation's allowed in summer and low staff morale at the location. Not a positive place to have returned to, I am happy to have left quickly.

A typical day involved driving safely, managing schedules, and interacting with customers. I learned time management, professionalism, and problem-solving. Management was supportive, and the workplace culture encouraged efficiency and responsibility. The hardest part was handling unexpected traffic or delays, but the most enjoyable part was meeting new people and providing excellent service.

As a Rental Sales Agent, I can get to meet different people everyday. I learned to be patient, to listen and do whatever I can for them to enjoy their vacation or to get them where they are supposed to go with less hassle. The hardest part of the job is that sometimes, client and sales people do not see eye to eye, a booking mistake, car availability or a discount not given. But nevertheless, we still do the best we can to give them the best service and experience as our clients.  In our day to day activity my co-workers and I rely on effective communication to have a smooth daily operation. Sometimes there are misunderstandings, but we learn from mistakes. Our manager held regular quarterly meetings to ensure that he hears our concerns, suggestions and extend help as much as he can. Though one of this job's perks is sales incentives, nothing can top the feeling I get when customers are happy and appreciates all our hard work, leaving our location satisfied, even going to our customer service to commend our location.

I do not recommend the Avis budget group to anyone. There is nothing but lazy coworkers and you will get the back end of the stick for everything. You'll have to pick up everyone's slack and not get a thank you for it. Don't bother complaining to management about it because nothing gets addressed or dealt with. There's a few select coworkers there that would actually give you a helping hand, rather than standing there and watching you work. As for the production manager, claimed they knew about everything going on in the shop and that things got addressed but nothing ever changed. Don't get too excited about having a full time job with them, they'll butter you up and make it seem like they'll keep you after your probation period. Employers will complain they can't find good employees, but they fire every good employee they can find when they get their chance. Stay away from this company. It's mentally draining on you, you're just another number to them. 

Days are boring, you learn nothing important, there’s no culture, the job isn’t hard, can be fun , just repetitive but you’re cleaning cars so expect that. Management is bad they lack empathy and expect 110% from the workers for pay worse than enterprises. It’s a decent job if you keep your head down but don’t expect to move up unless you stay for more than 20 years. Like the managers. You get free pizza lunches but only when they want you to be happy for your usual in company review and holidays like Christmas, the workers work hard and they’re generally great, the poor lead detailer goes through a lot due to management and worker back lash. all in all it’s an ok job, I just wouldn’t suggest it if enterprise is an option (better pay, better facilities) hope this review helps anyone thinking of going to work for this old and dated company with abysmal morals.
