Unfortunately, I’ve felt a lack of support and fairness from management, which sometimes comes across as biased. It’s disheartening to feel that decisions and interactions may be influenced by factors unrelated to performance or professionalism.

The workplace culture seems to lack inclusivity and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds. This has created an environment where it’s difficult to feel comfortable or confident that I will be treated equitably.

A typical day involves performing my responsibilities while trying to navigate a workplace environment where I often feel excluded or undervalued. This has been particularly challenging as it impacts my motivation and sense of belonging.

Despite the challenges, I appreciate the opportunity to contribute to my role and work alongside colleagues who do demonstrate respect and professionalism. These interactions show what the workplace could be with better inclusivity.

As an appraiser, the opportunities to do interesting and challenging work is almost endless. There is little comparison to the private fee business. Support and opportunities for learning and growth are significant. 
Management is focused on developing and maintaining employee engagement and this is reflected in decision making. However, the last few years has been stressful with an overwhelming amount of change. Much of this was driven externally, however, and I believe the company is in a bit of an internal recovery period. 
Diversity and inclusion in the workplace seems fairly high. Many people, including myself, have developed lifelong friends here. 
For me the most challenging and the most enjoyable part of the job is my part in building the annual assessment roll but I've also always enjoyed engaging with property owners after the fact and helping them to understand their assessment. 

PROS: Good pension plan, reasonable flexibility

CONS:
Artificial Ratings: The company's high ratings are misleading, as new hires are required to fill out an Indeed review within their first few weeks of employment.

Management Deficiencies: What may have once been a quality work environment has shifted. Management seems primarily focused on hitting metrics rather than supporting their teams. There is little to no formal training provided on people management.

Culture & Accountability: There is a noticeable lack of accountability and clear communication. A culture of favoritism allows underperformers to do the bare minimum, while top performers are expected to carry the extra workload. Quality of work is suffering and this has become clearly noticeable to BCA customers (public and local government).

Retention: While management attempts to project a positive culture externally, internal morale is low. Many staff members only remain with the company to secure their pensions.

Great team members, great pay and benefits. You will be expected to take on more due to short staffing but it is good learning experience. If you're a temporary contractual employee, know that you're disposable and can be laid off with no/short notice before the end of your contract due to personnel reshuffling. You will not be compensated for loss of wages.

It was a great learning experience. I already had a background in real estate so it was an easy transition. My only complaint was my salary was what I made working at a previous employer in 2008. With the cost of living, I ended up having to work a 2nd job. Lots of flexibility in hours,  which was helpful to accommodate a 2nd job. Union job, so job security is there. But that almost meant the people calling sick 1 week every month also had job security. 

Amazing corporation to work for, great benefits and pay, and many opportunities to move up (if you have some post-secondary education). The most flexible schedule ever, you can pick what hours you want to work (between 7am and 7pm) and if you have appointments you can easily adjust your schedule to attend them. Really amazing job, I only had to leave because my passion was in social work. Definitely recommend working here!!!

Worked as a Property Information Collector (PIC). The majority of the tasks are slow and sometimes repetitive with mostly data entry. But the environment is very friendly, everyone is willing to help you out. Even the managers tried their best to make sure you're welcome.

It was a great experience starting my career in real estate industry at bc assessment. Very stable and your colleagues are super friendly. Work is very relaxing except for the first three month of the year where you handle assessment appeals.
