BECK TAXI

Loved a large majority of my coworkers in the workplace for as long as I was an employee there. You walk in say hi or bye to the person who's seat or position you'll be taking for the day and you sign in and begin taking phone calls. You answer the phone, provide your best customer service no matter who is on the other end of the phone and almost no matter what they say to you (if its something offensive to you or the company you can very politely let them know you wont be continuing with the call).

The environment wasn't awful although there were some aspects of the environment that I didn't like as much.The members of what makes up company management aren't very transparent with their employees and sometimes make promises they dont plan on following through on. 

Learned a lot working there about the business and the differences between the outlook drivers have with those in the office and the managers as well as vice-versa. Learned how complaints are formed, delivered and handled (having handled a lot of them myself) as well as how the drivers are punished when rules are broken. 

The culture is very close knit and family oriented in the office, this is very coincidentally mimicked by the having an actual kitchen in the workplace for eating and essentially as the lounge before or in between shifts. With that said, there's still a lot of interpersonal issues and office gossip at times. 

The hardest part of the job was very likely just learning landmarks around the entire city to inform the drivers on any given channel of what was occuring in that particular area or have them inform us (these are for dispatch).

Beck Taxi was probably one of the easiest jobs I have ever had in my life. I truly enjoyed the time that I spent there. My trainer was very nice and had a good sense of humor. For the most part it is a chill environment with nice people. Working nights gives you the advantage of not dealing with higher ups breathing down your back. 

The training was 2 days of teaching, 1 day of listening to calls and then taking them while supervised, and the last two days you are left on your own. The hardest part about the job was trying to decipher heavy accents. Most callers are regulars so their addresses and information would already be in the system. I'm Muslim, so having time to pray was important to me. The office provided us with prayer mats to use so it definitely made me happy. Free coffee everyday and a nice little kitchen with lots of dishware. 

And while I enjoyed my short time there, a headsup for people who are considering working there:

• You get two 15min breaks scheduled 3 hours apart from each other. They allow you to eat at your desk but realistically it was hard to get in time to eat.
• You are not allowed to use your phone at all, even though they have special events where you can "pay" to use your cellphone while at your desk. Even checking your phone or a text can land you in trouble. 
• It's a call center, so expect to deal with mean people (taxi drivers included)
• Being fluent in English is a must. Some staff are ESL and you can tell they struggle a bit


I'm happy I left. 

- H R is rude and regularly practises favouritism. Everything from rate of pay to the schedule you receive depends on if she likes you. Nevermind job experience, productivity, or the work you put in. 
- There is little opportunity for advancement and none if you are disliked by H R (and by disliked I mean personality wise and she doesnt like many people). 
- when I was there yelling "get on your phones!!!" and nasty emails to staff was a regular practice

However, to be honest/fair, Beck Taxi provided a regular 40 hours (sometimes even more although they dont pay much), great coworkers, an awesome owner (I have the utmost respect for her and all she accomplished and continues to accomplish), bonuses at xmas, paid personal days, benefits after 3 months, free coffee, and excellent job experience.  H R (her attitude, the fact that she's not approachable, her mood swings, her tendency to demand sick people come into work, and the little value she placed on her staff) was a nightmare and my #1 issue. She, more than once, would walk through the office chiming that she has a thousand resumes on her desk and can fire who she wants. If she disliked you as a person, forget professionalism, your life at work would become awful.

I would work weekends only and as soon as I turned the phone on to take calls the phone would constantly ring. You weren't supposed to interact with other representatives during shift. The only time you were allowed to leave your seat was for the fifteen minute breaks provided. During rush hour I would often skip my break in order to provide customers better service and help co-workers with the load of customers calling in. I learned how to deal with customers in a timely manner but also provide them with the best possible service. I didn't approve of how the company was run. I got along with the majority of co-workers and those in management. I had the hours I preferred to work. The hardest part of the job would have to be the lack of professionalism in the office. I prefer to work in a professional environment with a dress code, where people must speak to others with respect and leave personal life outside of the work environment. The enjoyable part of the job was providing customers with information and making their night/day easier. Knowing the customer received their vehicle in a timely manner and/or managed to help the customer.

My day consist with many calls going through, answering questions and putting through orders onto a dispatch system sorting paperwork and verify digits on a computer data base.
 
 I Learned how to deal with hectic situations and help the customer find a resolution with the issue they are having, also learned how the taxi industry and radio dispatch system works.

 Management in the office where good they have many employees and as a business that runs 24/7 & 365 days of the year they mange everything genuinely smooth and fairly between all employees   
 
 All Co-Workers are respectful and civilized acquaintances and friends with many 

 One of the more difficult parts of the job was dealing with customers who where to upset to listen to the help or advice i was trying to give them.
 
 One of the best parts had to be connecting with people and serving them with a professional manor, being able to help them with problems they may be having and hearing how happy and pleased they become is a good feeling.

The staff are friendly and work well as a team. There are currently too many supervisors micro managing different aspects all around the office. They work under a revolving door approach to the staff, very few stay longer than a year if they make it that long. They are quick to replace staff instead of offering proper training to make a more efficient work environment. The staff that they do have that are in a more senior roll aren't trusted enough to do the jobs they are hired to do. Upper management only cares for Customer Service, while dispatchers try and be the middle ground, offering good customer service, improve moral and helpful to our fleet. Decent place to work, but there is no feeling of appreciation for people who do their job well or incentive to want to do better.

this is by far one of the worst places to work in Toronto i would not recommend unless you have no other choice this would be my last pick very poorly managed its like game of thrones in there they have over 10 supervisors for no reason they're all young and inexperienced and even the older ones are just downright rude. treat ppl as you want to be treated. for an 8 hr shift u only get 3 fifteen min breaks every 3 hrs which is against the law. long hours .weird shifts which they refuse to change even if you've been there long. pay is garbage. 
you should never look down on anyone regardless of your title no one is above anyone. humble yourselves. its a cab company for god-sake.

Beck was great to work for, their expectations are transparent and I knew what i needed to do to grow in my role. While I was in university my schedule for school changed at least twice per year and every time my requests for schedule change were accommodated. There were some angry coworkers who were always complaining that they had to work on the weekend, but that was made clear to me when I was hired and was clearly listed in the job posting which is why I applied. When I did ask for days off or a weekend off, I was granted it 100% of the time. 

I have encouraged all students I know to work here, as they are very flexible and it a great atmosphere if you have a positive attitude.

I enjoyed working at Beck Taxi.  I developed a few friendships working there.  It would more often be really busy, but sometimes really quiet, where it could get very boring at some times.  I interacted with all different types of customers, whether it be an angry customer, a customer from another country who could be difficult to understand, an elderly customer, or a young customer.  To sum it up, as a call taker at Beck, you were always in for a surprise when you answered the phone.  During my time there, I received quite a few customer accommodations for my excellence in customer service.  Unfortunately, I saw that at Beck Taxi as a call taker, there was no room for any advancement for me.

Lack of respect for workers and unprofessional 
management.  Supervisor had a melt down and started using profanities  loudly because  someone transferred a call to her. The person who transferred the call was new and she publicly humiliated them. This is not the first time.  Everyone seems to be very angry and has an attitude  for no reason. Very toxic work environment.  You would think they would  offer discounted rides for workers but they are very cheap. You need to give 3 weeks notice to book time off. They don't  care  if  your  sick  they expect you to come in  and find a replacement. The work isn't  hard at all the environment  is  the problem.  Lots of gossip feels like your in high school.
