A typical day at work is very fun. Building therapeutic relationships  with children and adolescence and teaching them a variety of life skills each day. Creating activities suited for children and adolescence developmental age that are fun and also educational.
I learned that every child and adolescence is unique and should be accepted as their own unique individual person. I also learned that every child needs to take responsibility for his or her actions and to teach conflict resolution to them to build on their confidence and self -esteem. 
Management was always kind and understanding. Boys and girls club management and co-workers work as a team and stand beside each other.
Hardest part of the job would be to manage children's behavior occasionally.
The most enjoyable part of the job would be getting to know many children and adolescence and their wonderful personalities and building therapeutic relationships with them.

I worked at BGC Dovercourt for over two and a half years, and my experience was extremely disappointing. The workplace is disorganized, with poor communication and rampant favoritism among staff and supervisors, creating an unfair and stressful environment. Management provides almost no support, making it difficult to perform daily tasks effectively, and accountability is nearly nonexistent. Kids’ basic needs, like proper snacks, structured activities, and attention, are often ignored or poorly managed. Snack is sometimes rotten. Staff are always changing or changing locations, Staff morale is low, and there’s little effort to resolve conflicts or improve conditions. Overall, BGC Dovercourt is unprofessional and mismanaged, and it urgently needs major improvements in organization, communication, fairness, and care for both staff and children. 

I would walk in once school ended and take the attendance right away to see how many kids we would be working with on that day, we would then distribute the snack for the day accordingly. Homework was what was done immediately after snack to make sure that the kids wouldn't fall behind on their school responsibilities. On average about 4-5 kids would need help on a daily basis, you would have to help while watching the other kids to make sure nothing bad is happening. After homework, the kids would either play in the gym or outside so I would need to supervise them and lead any games or activities being played.  The average workload daily is very demanding but still fun and teaches very essential and beneficial work skills.

Supervisors speak to you in a degrading tone and will not hesitate to blame you for their mistakes. Supervisors will expect you to know where everything is/how everything is done, yet do not provide proper training. Admin lead calls people incompetent, yet divides her work amongst front desk staff and does nothing to contribute to the team let alone the organization. No point in going to higher-ups for concerns because they are very tight-knit and will do/say anything to cover up for one another. No support from HR. HR knows about issues that go on in the workplace yet shoves it under the rug due to staff’s seniority. Very toxic work environment overall. Would not recommend.

Dovercourt Boys and Girls Club was a great way to work with a lot of children! I was an intern so I took initiative! I learned more from the children then the adults. It sucks I ended up having a decline in mental health after finishing my internship there... I'm in a better place now as I got older! I would usually reference pop culture to the children to add some depth and humour to my personality! If you can handle unpredictability you should do fine at this job!

Their is no such thing as a fair advancement here. They'll hire new people for hire positions before they think to hire staff with seniority. Management is rude and lacks actual communication skills; asking a question and getting a timely response is nonexistent here. Speaks to the staff as if you were their child. Over priced program when they quality isn’t even the same as it was in previous years. Completely disorganized. Expects you to be a CYW and a SSW while paying you minimum wage.

The children are a joy to work with, and I find it extremely enjoyable to be able to teach them various subjects during homework help time. However there is very minimal hours with which to make a living, and I find management to be a dread to work with. Often they seem more concerned about looking out for themselves as oppose to their employees. 

In all honesty you are likely to learn more from the children than the adults in this job position, and is a great job for those of us looking to gain comfort in working with children.

The head coordinator did not know how to respectfully speak to staff,(and still doesn’t) HR was new too, so noT much help. 
They work hard, not smart. 
Coordinator loves to be in control at all times. 
The Executive director was little to no show, did not introduce himself nor addressed the problems staff were facing with the coordinator.

Disorganized system(ask the parents,& front desk staff they’ll tell you)
Pay was not the best especially for the work-load given.
The kids were great, staff were relatable- just trying to make it through the day

I would avoid working for this organization as much as possible. Poor management - they lack the skills necessary to advance this organization. Asking questions of them is like pulling teeth, and you're afraid you're stepping on their toes and annoying them. If you like to be valued as an employee, don't go there.

The connections I made with the children will last a life time, While it was a small location for the number of members it was fantastic in having a welcoming environment for the children to feel welcome and have fun
