This is a workplace that always tries to better today than it was the day before, and it asks the same of you. 

Their mandate is "building a great business with great people," and you can see from the changes through the last 5 years that they are continually striving towards this goal.

There aren't many places that I've seen that encourage continuing education like BHD does, or ask what it is that you really want to accomplish with your life and then try to figure out a way to make that fit within the organization - but they do.

Mistakes are certainly made, but there's a genuine attempt to view mistakes as a positive - a learning opportunity - rather than a negative. They also attempt to highlight the mistakes so that others may learn from them.

In an industry where companies will usually be filled with one-dimensional money-motivated or highly political business owners and managers, it's a breath of fresh air to work with people who just want to do cool things together and build something that they can be proud of. 

The management team genuinely wants everyone in the company to succeed, and you can feel that on a daily basis. It's an informal understanding at the company that there are "no jerks allowed" which is probably what most people are looking for in an organization. 

If you're an ambitious, positive, and self-starting individual who wants to be able to learn a lot and build some skills with a lot of cool people, this might be a great place for you. 




BHD Instrumentation has been an enjoyable journey! The dynamic and supportive environment here has been great in fostering both personal and professional growth. The leadership team is genuinely invested in their employees' success, providing ample opportunities for advancement and skill development. What I enjoy is the fun culture throughout the workplace, making each day a delightful experience.

The managers at BHD Instrumentation have been an unwavering source of support, encouraging us to excel and providing the necessary tools to thrive. The pay is not only competitive but also reflective of the value they place on their employees. 

While there have been busy days and a few growing pains, the leadership has been proactive in addressing any challenges, including toxic personnel. There is one small cohort who was lead by a manger who left to a competitor and it seemed to have created a poison in the Edmonton office. It took some time but this cohort seems to have moved on and the vibe is back again. 

Over the past six month,their efforts in creating a healthier work environment have been noticeable, ensuring that the workplace remains positive and conducive to growth. 

Overall, BHD Instrumentation is an incredible place to work, where passion, growth, and support intersect, making it a joyous journey for any professional.

It is a small company with corporate mentality. I am grateful that they gave me a chance and taught me lots of stuff regarding calibration. When I wanted to learn more that is when they draw a line, they wanted me to be programmed to do the job and not ask questions. 
I loved to work there since they truly have really great calibration equipment and some really smart people, but management was horrible. 
They don't talk to employees and they don't try to resolve any issues. Typically they ignore you, even sometimes when safety was compromised. Lots of "double faces"
Unfortunately I was forced to leave even though I really liked the job and got along with most of the people.

Pay was decent, but it comes with the price(staying late, traveling a lot, dangerous driving and living in hotels and camps). 
Work hours on site would be typically until you finish, which would always be super tight and depending on a co-worker you could work 12h 5 days in a row. And then also expect to come late back home and leave sundays which are paid just as living allowance(no driving or working included).
Expect to drive in night time on ice, snow, rain or sunshine with your head and expensive equipment.

This place used to be a great to work at- the environment is nice. However, the management is disorganized, there is no follow through. They create an environment that is uncomfortable and stressful. No ownership of mistakes made and blame is passed down. I love all the people and the work is enjoyable. I just wish that the upper management had more involvement or knew what happened with the 'in office' managers. They used to have amazing managers. When I first started there the people in those positions were great and made it a place I looked forward to going. They switched to new people and it fell apart. A lot of shady things happen and it creates a place that makes me cry driving to. I would have recommended this place over and over again before. I raved about it...until there was the change in managers. Now I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. ever. The stress of dealing with these two and what goes on behind the upper managements backs and the kick to morale isn't worth it.

Joined BHD right around the JM acquisition in March, and it's been an awesome ride so far as a sales associate on the instrumentation team. Days involve client outreach and territory hustling in a cyclical market, but the support keeps it sustainable and fun.

Love how leadership actually tunes in. We raised flags on benefits early, and they delivered: RRSP matching and paid sick days rolled out fast. They are taking action that builds trust. They say that they want to attract and keep top talent and I see them taking steps to make that actually happen which is refreshing.

JM's integration has supercharged things: Fresh training, easier lead flow from their network, and better balance. Pay's competitive (base + uncapped), team's collaborative, and growth paths are clear if you deliver.

BHD Instrumentation is a sales, rentals, & calibration service company. All three departments are a fast paced environment, can be challenging at times, but the joy of being able to provide the best customer service makes up for it. With three offices across Canada, they are truly a Western Canada company. The company offers above industry standard wages, excellent health benefits, and is a great place to work. They have office lunches often, BBQ's in the summer, an arcade machine to get everyone together over lunch, and a social committee who places fun events throughout the year. Can't forget that they are growing like crazy and there is always room to advance your career. The senior leadership group and ownership group really cares about their employees and is always willing to dedicate quality time with you.

I've been an employee at BHD for two years and am very grateful for the experience it has offered me. I was able to grow into my role because of the training and support provided by my manager. This is a great place to work if you want to learn and bolster your skillset. There has been growing pains in the last year, but the workplace culture is something management has in their sights for improvement and I personally have already seen positive changes in this regard, including the introduction of a social committee with company-sponsored activities and events. Overall, the experience of working at BHD is positive because of the people - it's a collaborative environment with people who support one another in order to succeed.

From my interview to the day I was dismissed without cause. This company was a complete let down. After putting in back breaking hours and work with out missing time or taking vacation never showing up late staying when needed taking on any tasks given. 
I was never shown or guided to become better. 
My coworkers were the only reason I made it as long as I did. 
Management has much to learn how to do their job. I have also learned when companies are labelled best managed or best employer. They pay for this label it is not earned. 
Only good this about this job is the pay but it will take a part of you for it. 
You could learn much more from other companies. 
I would stay clear of this company !!!! 

The company has struggled since a recent ownership change. Leadership lacks experience and direction. And decisions are reaction rather than strategic. Many long time employees have left and any remaining are frustrated by constant changes, unclear goals and shifting expectations. There is little transparency around commissions and questions about pay are considered threats. The environment is tense with pressure and threats of job security. The front line work hard but the lack of capable leadership from the top has made it a losing battle.

BHD is a quickly evolving company where eager employees with creative problem solving skills are paired with an introspective down to earth leadership team. More over, employees are extended many opportunities to succeeded. When an employee struggles in their seat and shows little capacity to prevail the leadership team often goes through great lengths to find alternative positions to keep the employee in the BHD family. 
BHD does strive for excellence in their team.  If you want an easy mundane job BHD is not for you. If you want to join a dynamic and innovated workplace, this is the perfect place.
