Overall, if you're up to working 60 hours minimum per week and you've got a strong work ethic, you'll be fine.  However, you'll find in any crew in any department a couple of slackers in the group who have no qualms in standing back and watching you do the lion's share of the work.  And that ends up creating a stressful work environment.

The pay is very competitive, and the opportunity to work additional hours is there should you want it.  Working Saturdays and Sundays is not mandatory, however, it doesn't stop the foremans and supervisors from intimidating and manipulating you into coming in, sometimes to the point of suggesting that you won't be called back the following year should you refuse to come in on the weekends.  The problem in working 6 to 7 days straight in this kind of work is that it can exhaust you to the point where your concentration is diminished and the  danger of getting into an accident increases (you are after all working around heavy machinery).  And should you get hurt and put in a compensation claim, they won't hesitate to turn around and directly blame you for agreeing to come in in the first place....it makes for a very  toxic work environment.  Profits over safety.  This is all about production after all...the more you do, the more the company makes.

There's a great camaraderie and a sense of family when you find yourself  working in the same crew over a long period of time.  

Getting a bonus during labour day weekend is nice, although never guaranteed.  The turkey, gift cards, jackets, bottle of alcohol given out at Christmas is a nice touch.  

If you don't mind menial, repetitive, mind numbing work, then you can certainly do worse than this company.

-Arrive at job site at 6:30 a.m. , start up my loader and begin to move materials from various locations on the site to the pipelayers for them to use such as fire hydrants, manholes ect.
-I get out of my loader to help out, mix concrete, cut pipe, hand tools down to the pipe layers and watch for safety hazards. The work day usually ends around 7 p.m

-I've learned how to operate a loader, use gas powered tools, install fire hydrants and man holes, measure grades on pipe how to work as a team with my crew.

-My co-workers are like family, we work very efficient together.

-The hardest part of my job is communication, you always have to be in the know, you always have to be ontop of everything.

-The most enjoyable part of the job is getting it done and seeing the final result, it always feels good when you see good work done.

Wages are pretty good for what the job is doing, comparable.

Management  will take your job position and give to someone else , cut your hours

Most all employees  are high on drugs throughout  the whole day

Waiting for material to be delivered ,then waiting for operator to push or level to grade

Working twelve hours a day, six days a week.

A typical day consist of, foreman giving a talk at the start then co-operating with the machine operators.

Poorly or not maintained equipment!

Working with dangerous, and arraggant  drunks and drug people

Great place to work, great wages and benefits. Especially the profit sharing  it's nice to see a company give back to the employees like that. Long hours but you have to work when u can because winters are long.

i really enjoyed working there for the 2 seasons . i was able to start work as a loader operator and finisher for concrete. the hours were reasonable and the wages are very competitive

Very nice place to work.  Long hours are required but the pay is very good.  Since it's seasonal work, you must get as many hours as possible before the winter because you'll be laid off.
