BOTTLE DEPOT

It was always busy, even just for a typical day or a really rainy day. Working at the bottle depot helped me improve my math skills, my memory and how i communicate with people. I always loved meeting new people, so working at the bottle depot it helped me make new friends and enjoy life in Edmonton so much more. The employees there were always happy and funny even when there jobs were just as hard and frustrating as what i was doing, they would talk about there day, share facts about themselves, be polite and even share there lunch, they were great.The hardest part of working there was when it got too busy and the whole place full of people, always getting really hot in there, or coming home and smelling like old beverage containers. Other then that, i'm glad I got to work somewhere like that because it was sure a new experience for me, being in a fast paced environment with lots of people, sure is something i wasn't used to before moving from Manitoba.


​Working at the bottle depot was a solid experience that kept me physically active. The job is straightforward but demands high energy and focus, especially during peak hours. My daily tasks included sorting various containers, counting returns accurately, and providing quick service to customers.
​Pros:
The best part was definitely the coworkers. We worked as a tight-knit team to keep the flow moving during busy rushes. It’s a great role if you prefer a job where you’re constantly on the move rather than sitting at a desk. Management was generally accommodating with scheduling, which I appreciated.
​Cons:
It is a labor-intensive job. You’re on your feet all day, and it can be quite noisy and messy, especially in the summer. The odor is something you have to get used to.
​Overall, it’s a rewarding job for those who enjoy physical work and helping the community with recycling efforts.

The majority of people that I worked with, were quite nice to work with. There is, however a high turnover rate; from year to year- but there is a core group of people who have worked in the bottle depot industry- even from other cities- that have worked for over a decade. 

Overall it wasn't too stressful, most of the time, but it obviously had it's very high peak times- of being very busy; depending on the time of year. Bottle drives were also enjoyable. Being able to help teenager hockey teams, as an example.

Working at the bottle depot was a really comfortable and enjoyable experience. The manager and workers were friendly and co-operative.
The manager is very calm and kind and deals very softly with employees. My day at work included sorting and stocking of bottles, handling cash register and cleaning at the end of the day. The hardest part was that sometimes people bring bottles stocked from 2-3 years which smell so stinky that one cannot breathe in the air.
The most enjoyable was very sharing talks between co-workers and manager while completing left work in free time. I learned dealing with customers and their problems in a friendly way and working and managing tasks quickly in a busy atmosphere.

The owner is disrespectful, the COO made me so uncomfortable that I wanted to cry and scheduling was such a mess.  This company used to be really well run and everyone was happy but when COVID hit and the volumes went up, it was like they wanted to penny pinch even MORE than before?  People would ask for a raise and were denied but then when they gave their two weeks notice, more money was offered in order to keep them..... the trucks are in disarray and good workers are overworked to compensate for lazy workers that don’t get fired due to lack of staff.  Will never recommend this company EVER.

Coworkers and customers are wonderful. Not uncommon to find someone who isn't, but regulars make up for it. Management is awesome, always accommodating schedules so great for students! You learn to work as a team, meet different people and backgrounds, improve math skills, and have a sense of purpose working there. You get used to the smell, wasps, and rats; after some time, you don't notice them and just don't bother them and they won't you.

The Bottle Depot is a fast paste environment that requires you to be on your feet and having to be organized and quick at math.
The co-workers are kind as you work as a team and not as individuals. 
Also the Bottle Depot is part of an organization that helps people with mental or physical exceptionalities get jobs and get active in the community. So the staff works with them.

Physically demanding yet rewarding job. Fun coworkers and interesting customers make the day go by relatively quickly. Understaffed pretty often due to the unpredictability of how many customers will show up each day. overall would recommend working at the bottle depot.

A typical day at work is busy. I learned the regulars who come there and have learnt to understand customers. The management is mainly concerned on getting the customers out there as soon as possible. The hardest part of the job is when there is a big lineup and not enough people working. I enjoy it when customers bring counted bottles

The Job was enjoyable. The days varied from extremely busy to relaxed which kept me entertained and prepared. I increased my learning with basic mathematics by having to multiply, divide, add and subtract without a calculator. Hardest part of the Job was enduring the smell. The job was a fun experience.
