Like any great independent school, the workload totally comes in waves based on the calendar. You'll have high-intensity periods around term starts, big deadlines, or massive events like the Regatta or graduation. Brentwood knows this, and they're good about helping you manage it with flexible scheduling where possible and making sure you actually get downtime during breaks.

Pros: The people and the perks! The food is amazing and the gym, climbing wall and use of equipment (when not being used by the students). Opportunities to chaperone on trips. A wellness committee and many fun activities for staff and our families.
Cons: Sometimes the work volume and effort is high. The wages are not spectacular particularly for non faculty team members. Benefits, perks and work environment offset that a little but not keeping up with Cost of Living increases of late.


To date, this was probably the most enjoyable job I've had. When I first applied, I actually applied as a housekeeper--it was only luck that ended in my employment as a theater maintenance technician. The only downside is that this position is not consistently offered. It is mainly a summer position offered only because there are no students to help with events and maintenance. I had quite a bit of fun, even though some of the work was dusty, difficult and tedious. I quite enjoyed managing stage productions, such as musicals and children's plays that took place in the school's theater and would gladly do it again. I am disappointed, however, that the salary was lessened from my first experience--going from $20 to only $12. The job takes place from June to early August. The manager gave instructions and allowed employees to work independently, establishing trust and a semi-casual work environment. By far, the best part of the job was acting as stage manager during an Arbutus Ridge musical.

Colleagues are great management treats you as just a number they tell you one thing then stab you in the back for listening to them 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Like walking on egg shells . Always being criticized for little things and never having enough time to do the work at there expectations.  Always changing the rules.

Brentwood College School not only offers its students a first-class education, but it also provides them - as well as the staff - with a strong sense of community. New faculty and staff are always greeted into the fold with open arms, as well as opportunity. Everyone strives towards the common goal of providing the students with the best possible experience, and going above and beyond is what is expected of all employees. The extra work does not go unnoticed though. Passion, engagement, and dedication is often rewarded with praise, opportunity, and advancement.

Brentwood is a beautiful school.  The students are incredibly lucky to be there.  The housekeeping department is brutal.  The staff are a good group of people.  Management is the problem.  They are sneaky, put employees against one another and are incredibly disorganized.  Management likes to blame the employees for the toxic environment, but it is created by the upper heads in charge.  Too bad.  Benefit package ok, wage is brutal.  Too many problems with new management to enjoy working there.

Some departments are very disorganized and management creates toxicity for the employees.  Management is very sneaky and try to pull in other employees as their spying minions.  The disorganization is far too much to feel accomplished.  There are far too many unhappy employees in facilities.   Great place to learn, the children are lucky.  Too bad management feel it their right to be so disruptive..

i was a tutor only a few times a week.

This was my secondary school, located on Vancouver Island, BC Canada. It was a nice, quaint, and accepting community. Really instilled work ethic into students with 2 hour mandatory study times in the evening and class on Saterdays. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to send their children (age 13-18) to a great boarding school.

Decent pay, decent hours! Great benefits and amenities available on campus for staff on a scheduled basis. High but fair expectations for service. Great people to work with, both inside the department and in other departments. Beautiful campus with generally amazing and polite students. Management was easy to work with. Can't recommend Brentwood enough!

The only positive thing was the benifets and the meals 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management would always get mad over the littlest things. And no matter what you did to help the team it was never ever good enough. I was always walking on eggshells thinking is this the day I get canned?
