I would never recommend anyone work at Brockville General Hospital. It is the most toxic working environment I have ever worked in. Nurses are mean to each other! Nurses are mean to patients! And there is also a toxic relationship between management and floor staff, nurses! I have never once felt supported at Brockville General Hospital!! It’s disheartening! Generally speaking staff at the hospital do as little as possible including management, PT, OT, RT, doctors, a significant percentage of nurses, etc. Nurses are on their personal cell phones a lot during a shift doing personal things!  I have witnessed nurses on countless occasions on Facebook and also texting while in rooms with confused or sleeping patients!  Nurses in the ER are especially unprofessional and incredibly rude!! Just about anything you can think of is blown way out of proportion! Hospital staff are constantly gossiping and saying awful things about patients and their family members!!

If you are considering working at Brockville General Hospital, I would strongly advise against it and suggest you apply to a better hospital that supports their staff and is not like working in the twilight zone!!  More than 75% of the staff, including management, there need to be fired and new staff hired! That may change the overall toxic environment there!

The management and staff are very helpful management treat nursing staff very well and they are  respectful and follow union rules Great place to work

As with any healthcare institution there sometimes are short staffed

Friendly and respectful  of staff of nursing they give small rewards to the staff as they understand and notice hard work you do

Always cheerful it’s a great experience working with volunteers very good communication between workers and management

-offered double time because people won't work, horrible morale
-sick time through the roof
-management-concerned with looking good only
-Exasperating, soul destroying
-hardest part of a job there is caring, only to realize that doesn't matter

A fast paced changing environment demanding the ability to multi-task and be agile. In a transition to provide better healthcare within a budget that has no increase but increasing costs. Job security and culture suffers as a result. 

Good community minded workforce that is passionate and caring about the organization and wants to see change for the better.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The staff are incredible to work with. What a great team of nurses and psp’s. They give us a safe environment to work in and safe for the patients. I feel like they care about my well being.

Deciding which beautiful room to have my break in.

Amazing, safe, fun, supportive, caring

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
12 hours physically demanding balanced with breaks

Shift work for all areas, 8,10,and 12 hour shifts depending on the department. 
Management is non existent, don’t deal with any issues brought up. 
Numerous workplace injuries go under the radar. 
The workplace culture is toxic and demeaning. 
The hardest part of the job is not getting frustrated at the lack of direction and everything changing on a day to day basis. 
The most enjoyable part of the job is the coworkers and being around like minded staff. 

Great place to work for but it is hard to keep up with so many changes.  Going over patient charts. Organizing  the day. Vital signs,Blood sugars. Communicating with  fellow workers. Pouring medications. Communicating to Patients. wound dressings. blood work. I.V. Notifying Doctors about test or any significant  changes in patients. Lots of computer work which every Nurse dislikes. Nurses wear many hats.

Upper management is out of touch with employees.  Lower management are former registered staff without good management skills.  
The workload is average.  
Work environment can be quite toxic at times.  
All staff are not held to the same standards-many staff on their phones while other staff pick up the slack.
Small town hospital attitude, whereby if you know the right people, you will get away with a lot.
I cannot recommend this hospital.

I only had the privilege of working there as an RN student for my consolidation. I would have loved to continue working there if my eyes were not set on moving out of Brockville. All staff were friendly and cooperative with each other. Everyone there took their jobs seriously and took excellent care of their patients. I learned a lot there, and all the staff did an excellent job at facilitating my learning process.

The unit that I worked was maternal/child unit. However, we had infective patients in that unit as well that really bothered me because of newborns. The other thing that I disagreed with was using unsterile scissors to cut umbilical cord. There were some areas of practice that made me to leave the hospital and work as nurse  educator.
