At my interview things were promised and terms of hiring agreed to. I accepted the job when offered on this basis. Over the next year everything that was promised was forgotten about. Advancement in the company, exact job description in original hired position. Job description didn’t change while I was there they just denied everything that was said in the interview. I did get a raise early on but shortly before I left my hourly rate was dropped by $2/hr. Management denied that I had ever gotten a raise and that I had been collecting the higher amount for almost a year with out their knowledge. 

Seniority means nothing to them. Junior driver gets the nicer truck and first choice on shift times.

For a while I was driving highway. They pay by the mile. The rates they pay, coupled with all the stipulations about what is “included” in the mileage rate, guarantee you can never make more that $18/hr on the average.

The good: Lots to learn and training is starting to become a thing, which is nice. Great job to learn where every street and business is in PG. There's a staggeringly huge amount of freight that goes through the PG branch. Some pretty good people employed here. Overtime hours are plenty.
The bad : There's a couple employees locally both in the union and in management who aim everyday to escalating anxiety and make your job needlessly difficult. You are often coerced into participating in Overtime hours. Forever short handed.

The company has new trucks, and good looking equipment. The equipment looks very well maintained and reliable. My road test was with a trainer and it made the process easier. New on board log book, with training. 

Interviewed for the driver position,  switches at night, mileage looks good, and compensation is a positive for night shift. Good benefits package at Bandstra and matching RRSP.

Ability to contribute to the companies success.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Even though years of dedication proven, they will turn on you over nothing.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Initially, a great reputation and customer service organization devolve into disreputable and unable to retain/attract top talent.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Overwhelming workload with little assistance or recognition

I enjoyed my summer at Bandstra, I would come in early in the morning and start moving items instantly at 730am.  I would help others unpack / load objects and pieces of furniture until my job was selected for the day by my boss. Then I would go with my selected team out on the job for the day wherever that might be.  Once i am finished I come back to the warehouse sign out and drive home.

Hardest part: objects that are weird shapes / heavier that myself
Most enjoyable: Having conversations with fellow co-workers after the day is completed

Start work by pre-tripping my truck and safety checking some things then I move onto looking for my paperwork for my daily loads and asking any dock hands that might need to assist me to assist me usually very quick about it and helpful. Everybody usually knows exactly where everything is that I’m looking for is a driver, and then I move onto my driveway the day and have any ELB which monitors most of what I do and helps keep me safe. When I return back, I exchange my paperwork and ask the dock hands and yard hands where they need the trailers dropped.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Great atmosphere, good pay, newer equipment.If you are a hardworking team player, this is the place to be.

Benefits not fully paid, coverage is average.No short term disability coverage.

Culture is great.Modern facilities along with newer equipment.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Show up on time, daily. Work hard, complete the required tasks to get the job done

enjoyed the work, A lot of very nice people work there. As a switch driver it might be alright or perhaps as a local delivery driver, but as a highway driver,gypsying around the province it sucked. They think nothing of sending you off to Edmonton, Richmond , or any other depot and then telling you, sorry we don't ,we don't have a load for you. You  will have to wait 24 hrs. One  time I was dispatched to go to Edmonton on New Years day , I refused, If I hadn't refused and went I would have there for approx. 40 hrs. with no compensation. STEER CLEARof this place

A typical day offers new challenges every day. I have learned to be a hands on employee and have learned a lot of skills. The management do not always communicate together. Coworkers are nice people but it is frustrating to work with a high level of inexperience, which leads to an unsafe working environment. Hardest part of the job is dealing with a lack of space and an incompetent manager. Certain team members are the most enjoyable part of my job and driving in the beautiful lower mainland

Busy terminals with lots of diverse customers and projects. Lots of customer dependence which means lots of work to keep them satisfied, so some high pressure situations to handle the volume and the last minute customer emergencies. Plenty of OT, good equipment, some older, with more and more new stuff. Management puts lots of effort into getting you the tools to do your work better and easier. Advancement for those who can perform and there are always efforts to improve and noticeable changes. Big difference in the past 6 years!
