Honestly, I'd recommend working here if you're a student travelling to make a few extra bucks before going back to school. I wouldn't recommend working here if you're looking for a long term solution or for settling down. The rent in Banff is far too expensive and the salary offered here isn't acceptable for making a life out here. They do not pay a living wage here, so bear that in mind before applying. As a former IT Technician, be very careful as the on call is unpaid and you are expected to perform on call several times per week and once a month over the weekend, bringing your salary down to essentially minimum wage once you calculate the unpaid hours versus paid.

Management needs to be improved. Care about the team. Care about the work we do. Get more involved. Host meetings and morning catch ups so that we can share any issues in an open environment without creating issues further down the line.

This place is a great place to meet people from all over the world and you get discounts at restaurants and free hotel stays (once every 3 months outside of peak season) and honestly that's where the pros end. The biggest problem with this place is that they're stuck in their ways and don't want to adapt or change for the future. The software and hardware we support is close to end of life and in dire need of upgrades. 

I was a server for one of their hotel locations in Banff. I found the overall atmosphere to be very laid back, at the time there was little to no training involved when I was hired. Some of the managers were great, others not so much. The company offers health benefits after about 6 months with them. They also offer a free hotel night stay every 3 months at any of their properties, this excluded peak times and is subject to availability. I was able to use my free hotel stay at 3 of the properties which was really nice. They gave us a Christmas gift basket and try to encourage a good environment by hosting work parties in summer and Christmas. The pay is really not great, and I disliked one of the managers which is ultimately why I left after 2 years. 

Worked there for around 2 years for my PR application, moved around between different properties, but it was always the same problem with management. Every time you write to HR about any concerns you might have with your manager, they would go ahead and discuss with your direct manager instead. I assumed concerns to HR were confidential, but with Caribou it was nothing but. Then I would get disciplined from my manager for discussing my concerns with HR about him instead of going straight to him lmao. Bottom line is, please don’t ever work for this company, there are tons of companies in Banff with better management and culture.

I don't necessarily work for the money, but when I meet people in the area who are making $3-4 an hour more for less work, free accommodation, more than a day off and a range of benefits including discounts in Canmore I get really sad.

It saddens me that despite the best efforts of people who have been here a long time HR is not looking at this issue. The only competitive advantage is that they have free accommodation for staff even in the summer which is to the detriment of the understaffed hotels where people work 9 days straight and 2 days off.



Wages at this company do not keep up with the cost of living in Banff, making it difficult for employees to afford, especially foreign workers who make up a large portion of their workforce . Pay raises are rare and minimal, despite the increasing demand placed on staff. Management tends to prioritize longevity over effectiveness, allowing underperforming leader remain in place regardless of their impact on workplace morale or operations leading to a frustrating and unmotivating working environment. There are likely better opportunities elsewhere.

I honestly had a great time working as a housekeeper during the summertime, due to the fact that it was a low stress job and would show up hungover almost everyday. The pay was awful and way too overstaffed some days housekeepers only worked 4 hours a day when we were hired as full time. Staff housing is a perk and loved the social life of it all, but you are probably better off working with other companies who pay better.

You won't get a fixed schedule as an employee and they definitely do not pay enough for not having a second job. 
You pay the amount of money for a shared room other people here in Canmore pay that for a single room in the staff housing. 

If you try to convince them to give you a fixed schedule they give you just non reasonable answers.

If you're looking for an opportunity to make it to Banff with a job that offers staff accomodations and some perks and Some nice coworkers from around the world. 

Big company, lots of people coming and going.. accommodation is like a college dorm, they don’t gaf about u. You’re a number. bad pay. Lots of big ego managers. Plan on staying for a month or 2 then quit 

It is a great place to work as a student or working holiday. There are a lot of events and recreational activities. You can also make more friends. The pay is not that great, but good for a side job.
