Banff Lodging Company

Working as a Front Desk Agent and helping customers was enjoyable, and the location itself was beautiful, everything else about this job was appalling.
The management culture was toxic, characterized by micromanagement and gossip. The general manager frequently belittled and undermined me in front of customers, refusing to let me learn at my own pace and frequently taking charge, making me feel isolated and small. 

During my interview, I disclosed my autism diagnosis and explained that I learn at a slower pace than others. However, this was completely disregarded, and just two weeks into the job, I received a poor performance review from a secondary manager who had not even been informed about my autism by the general manager. This lack of understanding and support was unacceptable and took a severe toll on my mental health.

The staff housing was equally dismal, with cramped living conditions and weekly inspections. My roommate was constantly stressed about these inspections, fearing he might lose his housing subsidy. It was distressing to witness this level of anxiety over something so basic.

Overall, this company ruined what should have been a memorable Banff experience. I cannot recommend working here to anyone.


I am currently working with the company I have a mixed reviews. Their job benefits and discounts are great but that's it. 
We were told Canadians only need a police check non refundable to live in staff accommodation and not to work in the hotel. 
The staff accommodation is a joke, we are treated like children with a cleaning schedule, list of things that need to be done every week, and then they come every week they come and inspect it. 

The craziest thing was a crumb under the couch and had received a warning. If you are given too many warnings you get charged more for rent . 

The job is a joke as well, managers that don't want anything to do with the workers and tell them it's not their issues, management that clearly has no idea what they're doing when it comes to housekeeping. 

When I arrived I was shocked at how much things get missed how much they simply do not care. 

The last thing is being told directly by your manager that we are not a priority when it comes to hours because we don't have a working visa and are Canadians.... 

AVOID UNLESS DESPERATE

Working in Banff was amazing, as the nature makes up for any stressful day. Be aware of this company though as they go through so many employees they seem to forget about carrying about employment standards. I was contracted to a 35 to 40 hour week which I just worked over summer and peak time. In the off season I was down to 15 hours a week, which didn't give you much money after rent was taken off. Also on my first day at work, I was a surprise to the manager there, nobody knew about me starting there and I wasn't on the rota for two weeks. 
As Banff is living of seasonal workers a lot of them are there for their work and travel year. Most of them never worked in the hospitality industry before, so the moral and attitude is not so high. Which is hard if you trying to make this a step of your career. 

Overall. Still a great time in Banff, as the people you meet are great and there is always something to do.

Reality is very different, from what people are told during interview. 
For tourist orientated town, with pricey hotels/restaurants, people employed in hospitality starts on min. wage, for raise you can hope after months (if so). Most of managers goes after their budget to get their own benefits, at expanse of employees (low hours + more job, low pay - no raise). 
Accommodation - as promised is cheaper and deducted from your wages. But for what price: most of apartment is outdated, broken, dirty, no maintenance service in time you need. You don't know who will be your housemates, apartments are for 6-8 people, so you need more than people skills to enjoy your time at home. Otherwise you can asked to be moved again, and again....

The Banff Lodging Company has been a great company to work for this past year.  My work day usually includes answering phones, inputting data and completing our daily hotel checks.

I love the management at my current job and really enjoy working with all my colleagues. The hardest part of my job is maintaining a positive attitude when helping guests that have/had issues or are very specific with their bookings. I find every situation to be different and although its difficult at the time, the end result is usually rewarding.

My favorite part of my job is the continuous learning environment I am in. With the company owning 8 properties in Banff and myself selling all 8 over the phone, I am constantly learning new and interesting facts about each hotel and all of this new information helps my selling ability dramatically.

Where do I start. Let’s just say I’ve booked a one way ticket to Scotland after working 2 days as a housekeeper. Working conditions are inhumane, miserable and isolating. You are forced to work by yourself all day and rushed to finish rooms. HR and housing are extremely unsupportive and dont’ give a singular F about you as a person, you are just a number. Watch out for Thursday housing inspections, they will evict you if you don't make your bed or if you any housing decor. This company has ruined my Banff experience which is sad really. I hope there is an inquest into this company and how they treat their employees. Makes me feel sick when I think about my time with BLC. 

I worked for the Banff Lodging Company for the better part of a year. My employer was always extremely accommodating and I really enjoyed all of the people I worked with. During my time with the company, I stayed in staff accommodation and I loved it. I am very surprised about the previous comments stating that the staff accom was terrible. I had nothing but positive interactions with the team and genuinely enjoyed my stay. The living environment and cleanliness of the accommodation was top notch and the housing team were super flexible and attentive to any concern I had. 

Overall, the Banff Lodging Co. is a great place to work and live.

Great spot to work to be able to live in Banff, as they have stable management, relatively high quality staff housing, and tons of benefits to take advantage of like canoe and golf passes. If you're coming in on a working holiday or for around a year, it's a great spot. However, if you stay longer, they don't provide any opportunity for meaningful career growth, extremely limited in terms of pay increases, and Banff does not have many options for housing outside of staff accommodations. If you come to work here, have a plan to move on approximately a year later, as they basically plan to have high turnover

As what the title says, this is by far the worst job I had so far. Underpaid, Understaffed, Benefits not good. In all of Banff they have the lowest starting wage for any position. Given the fact that they are also "Employee-owned" means that they care more about their shares/stocks than to improve the service/standard for the company. Management only thinks you are a number that they can easily replace because they can hire seasonal employees who need work and housing when they are trying to enjoy summer and winter seasons.

Definitely won't recommend to work here especially if you're not a SHAREHOLDER of the company. 

I cannot say enough good things about this company! It is not easy to get a manager job from the outside as they have a lot of good internal candidates eager to move up. So great opportunities for career advancement. Once you get your foot in the door,  you are well taken care of. Extensive training, good HR practises, suppport from your managers and amazing perks (great discount on ski passes, rentals, restaurants, hotels, spas, bus passes etc...). They give you clear instructions on what they expect you to do, people are nice and there is a great company culture that reflects the Owner's vision. A gem in the Rockies!
