Bank of Nova Scotia (BNS)

Working for BNS was enjoyable for the most part.  Politics and the need to make more profit by any means necessary was the endpoint of my career there.  I was upset at the lies they told their Canadian Employees all the while they basically moved jobs off-shore (Columbia/Dominican). Management had us essentially cross-train our lower-paid replacements.
They also threw many long-term employees under the bus when they canceled post-retirement benefits and changed how employees can take a package at retirement vs pension plan.
Closing satellite locations employing hundreds of employees, just so they can centralize in expensive Toronto area.

Training modules should be completed before being put on Teller line, especially when new to banking. 
Most employees are friendly
Top Management is very understanding of situations and helpful - He is easy to talk to
They hold Thursday staff meetings to discuss any issues
Typical day as in Training mode, training modules, then on Teller line for a few hours.
They allow the staff to wear jeans on Saturdays, and the $1 that is paid, is donated to Care and Share at Christmas.

Very political managerial level.
Majority people are not really helping each other.  Team spirit are loose.
Too many time wasting meeting.
Not well trainned on new implemented product software.



More than the Organization, the work experience depends on your team and immediate manager. Having said that, I had a good experience. My manager was not nosy, the payscale is good and there are nice oppurtunitues to learn. The pace of work is decent (not very fast, not very slow)

Only thing they care is that you achieve the weekly sales goals. Nothing else. They have a 6 month probation period . But good training . If you have a very good manager then you are all set . Mine was a not good one workaholics at 1 and Renfrew branch Vancouver . 

Need to be more focused on being more proactive and less reactive. There are a lot of people with good ideas that are aligned with industry best practices and that needs to be the new culture of wanting to do things the right way.

Be prepared to have to buy in to the "culture" of whichever branch you work at. Mine had people really into travel and drinking, and as someone with little to no interest in either I felt left out. Also a lot of nepotism, so I'm surprised I was hired at all. 

I was very fortunate to have learned and worked alongside many great people who taught and supported me throughout my time at Scotiabank. The branches that I worked at were busy at times, but the people made the day enjoyable.

I worked in a contract role. So I cannot say much about the company. During my tenure, it was nice and since being a contract staff, we were not considered employees. But no grudges  - overall it is a good place.

I am willing to work very hard in my next job I just need a chance the bank was very helpful to me and I am experience to work any kind of Customer Consultant job experience.
