Nothing but a disappointing experience working at Queensdale Head Office. I found the administrative side to be very disorganized. The position I worked constantly changed. There was never set guidelines which made is difficult to know how to do your job properly. They term a position “admin assistant” and it really is not. You absolutely do not get compensated for the type and amount of work you do in policy & procedure which is not an admin assistant position by any means. You do a bit of administrative duties but are mainly the assistant to the quality & risk department. Again, not an administrative assistant. Management is not afraid to let people go without any explanation. This is unfortunately not a workplace I would suggest you never try to make yourself comfortable in. 

The day would go depending on who was working. Some days were awesome, playing games with the youth, such as sports and video games. Some were tough with emotionally or physically charged situations, but there were definitely no shortage of shifts. Some people there were fantastic, happy to answer questions and were consistent. However, there were some staff who were disrespectful to staff and youth, and this caused tension, and in turn, avoidable and unfortunate stress leading to altercations. While this was brought to managements attention multiple times, these people continued to inadvertently cause these things to happen. 


What is the best part of working at the company?
Going home after your shift is finished. Nd payday.

Dealing with management. They couldn’t care less about staff safety 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Extremely toxic due to the head honcho’s 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Long and stressful . Not an environment that I would recommend to anyone

Great place to work. Training always available and encouraged.  Management very supportive.  Overall, a very nice environment.
You need to have a patient personality as you are working with vulnerable clients. Helping people remain independent at home.

since working here i have learned about the youth criminal justice code and how placing young offenders happen. I work with professionals with a wealth of experience and we are able to have a lot of fun on a daily basis. there is paperwork and faxing but it is very minimal. Great experience so far.

If you’re looking to get experience look elsewhere, the pay isn’t worth the risks of the jobs. Some staff and management are great and willing to help, many don’t care for you, your safety, or for the youth. They enjoy escalating situations. The workplace is unhealthy and there are much better opportunities elsewhere. 

i love working at Banyan Community Services. the management is great. you never know what your going to have to work through throughout the day. sometimes it can be very physically demanding if you have to restrain a youth causing issues.

Each shift offers many challenges and opportunities that require me to know my clients and shift responsibilities. Proper documentation and supervision while ensuring safety and security.

The knowledge and understanding I have taken away from this placement is invaulable. I have learned patience, compassion and how to empower clients and families to do the work that is needed to be succesfull.

Great experience working at PYC.  Staff and Management were supportive and welcoming.  It is a challenging environment but because it is a team approach, very little stress and difficulties.
