Barbecues Galore, Canada

Shifts are scheduled for 8 1/2 hours. There are no breaks only a 1/2 unpaid lunch break.
Training was provided by BBQ Galore and many of the Manufacturers.
Management uses cameras and two way mirrors to observe staff. Micromanagement is rampant.
There is a division of workplace culture. There is the inner circle ie. those who have been with the company since the beginning, along with those who are related/friends  to members of Management.  Then there is the “others”  those who are hired as seasonal/parttime employees or have no previous connections to the “inner circle” . An Assistant Manager ( who had been with the company for 18 months) welcomed a new baby to their family and Management didn’t even send them a card.
Hardest part of the job is being barely tolerated by members of the inner circle. Being told  the Company’s message is to respect each other but no respect is given to those who do not belong to the “inner circle”. 
Only thing respected by Management is sales. They preach “ One Team One Dream”. When in actually  only thing that holds any reverence is sales.
Advice to Management- if you are going to mock and mimic a staff member, ensure that the staff member is not within earshot. 




Overall
The company has a positive, open-minded, and welcoming environment. I worked at barbecues galore for a few months, and it’s overall a decent Seasonal job. 

Employees
Pros:
The majority of the employees are wonderful to work with. 
Coworkers are helpful 
Very positive work life
Cons: 
A few employees come off as undertrained. 
A couple of staff seem not to care whatsoever when it comes to quality of work

Management:
Pros:
The management team is overall pretty great to communicate and work with. They are open to talking if you have any issues. 
Cons:
One of the managers is incredibly unprofessional when talking to staff. 
Communication sometimes breaks down between managers making things more difficult. 
One manager tends to take jokes to far and comes off as insensitive. 
Managers continually promise full time positions with no intent of following through. 

Extras: 
New manager was hired and on their first day they spent their entire shift just uncomfortably staring at employees instead of doing work. 
Said manager also made a comment about a staff member ordering food along the lines of “did you order enough for everyone” (staff and myself thought it was a joke) and said manager replied to the staff member who had ordered food  in a disgusted tone “well you’re an incredibly selfish and ignorant person”. This was the managers first day. 






Good stores with friendly staff, decent management and a positive environment. A lot of seasonal work means staff is in and out every year, but a strong core stays. Staff is competent and receives continuous training after employment. Pay starts low but they provide good raises. Promotes from within but also hires management from outside the company frequently. As a retail experience it is a positive place to work. Being a small company some policies are not well defined.

Absolutely ZERO incentive for staying more than a year with this company. Great summer job and the employees are fun to work with(most of them are). Although company loyalty is not something they care about at all.

After spending countless hours and many years with the company, being eager to learn the infinitely expanding list of products to sell, I was treated with reduced hours and minimum wage. 

THIS IS NOT A MINIMUM WAGE JOB.

If you want to work with a company that underpays AND under appreciates, this is the place for you.

Really good for building experience in sales and customer service.

You will work side by side with two great guys BUT management is very bad. You have to pay for uniforms, there are no benefits, service manager tried to get me to use faulty equipment, they’ll book jobs with no parking and expect you to get and pay for parking tickets, also you will not be able to take your lunch but will get 30 minutes deducted from your pay each day. The G2 installer that works here is honestly phenomenal if you can deal with the horrible management. 

Good job to learn and show your sales skills. People are helpful and wanting to teach you. Managers make small contests which are fun as it makes you energized to do good sales. Customers are fun too and most of the times I had fantastic experience. 

I find with this company you are expected to do and know way more then what you are paid. No benefits working “luxury sales” except a little bit of commission on $20,000 barbecue sales. Also really need to work on giving credit where it’s due. Great seasonal position but would not recommend staying longer then that however you do tend to appreciate the accommodating managers at the south location 

helping customers find the right BBQ to meeting their needs & providing them with everything they need to get it going whether running on natural gas or propane. 

The hardest part of the job was working as much as I did dealing with customers & service issues but only getting minimum wage with no commission on sales.

You get to work with the barbeques and sales. Work in the back build them barbecues. After they are built get to deliver them. The people are trained and know what they’re doing. Give full time hours.During seasons.

I had a great time working for this company. The owner is visible to the rest of the staff. Great culture and overall a fun place to work. The store is  very busy in the summer, so the worst part is not having much time off on weekends or in the summer in general. However, that is the price you pay for retail.
