When I first joined the team I had heard the winter time is much slower than the summer time, but that winter was much different. Even Despite COVID, there was a lot to do and few to do it at times.

I loved being part of a team. Facing challenging things together is so much easier and better than doing so alone.

There were a couple difficult people I had to work with at times, but they typically didn't last long.

Vast majority of the customer base is very professional and nice. Many of them are small business owners themselves and it was really satisfying seeing them meet their needs.

The main challenge I saw was at times we seemed to bite off more than we could chew. That's not always a direct result of management or something, just the ebb and flow of the industry. That being said, some days (a lot of days), it was complete chaos trying to keep up. The positive I mentioned earlier of having others with you really shines here, because if there was a really difficult day, you have others covering your lunch or watching a blind spot.

As for work-life balance, it totally depends on what position you are. Some roles have a great balance while others may require many, many more hours of overtime at times.

I learned a lot about construction and how the industry is supplied during the good, bad, and ugly times. A lot goes into a barricade or even the most simple small sign you see on the side of the road. At this place, you see "how the sausage is made" and it's quite fun learning all of it.

If you're fortunate enough to operate the heavy machinery available get ready to use them often.

Overall, I am very grateful I had a chance to work there and I might just go back one day.

Days are long and grinding. It was hard to feel fulfilled at work because the culture was one of reactive-problem solving. Blame or consequences often fell on the heads of untrained, or under-experienced employees and made it difficult to want to work hard. Even when accomplishments were made or tight deadlines were met, there was often little recognition; just another assignment or expectation to do more was given. The company provides snacks and treats every once in a while, which is a bonus/sign of appreciation, but that's about the biggest perk there was. That, and being left alone at your own station to work most of the time was nice (unless higher management came to the shop, then they watch you very closely and critique).

It wasn't a terrible job but in my opinion there wasn't a healthy work/life balance.

I was hired onto the design team almost 2 years ago, and absolutely love my job! The position itself is design, but in a production capacity, which is right up my alley. It's interesting, and I've learned a LOT about traffic signage across Canada since being here. It's also really neat to drive past my work on a daily basis.

I work closely with the production team, and they're a stellar team who can output an enormous amount of work daily, with a really high quality. My manager is fantastic, and very approachable and down to Earth. Upper management is also very approachable and easy to talk to, which is a rare thing to find.

The workplace culture is something that we're working on, but have incorporated monthly town hall meetings with monthly lunches, and it's nice to come together to meet and eat.

All in all, it's a company that I'm proud to be associated with, and I would highly recommend applying to!

There unwritten policy is they continue to hire new employees and every 3 weeks new employees are hired. No this causes to many employees so full time hours are non existent and 99 percent of the employees they lay off without explanation 2 to 3 days before you reach your 3 month period. It's a lool hole so they don't have to give benefits to anyone.  They yell at you constantly. Threatening to fire all employees on a daily basis. They say there going to train you . However they just throw you out to a site alone and complain you don't know all knowledge of what to do.

The focus on barricades and signage does not adequately support field staff and seems disproportionately aligned with executive-level objectives, rather than addressing the practical needs of workers on the ground.

The heavy focus on barricades and signs may indicate a gap in workplace culture, where compliance measures are prioritized over meaningful improvements to worker

Working at Barricades has been a breathe of fresh air compared to many of jobs I've had before this one. It's extremely open and stress-free. An everyday at Barricades is coming in knowing what's going on and what you gotta do right from when you get in! Management is so open that if you ever need anything or have issues it gets resolved within a day maybe even a few hours! Hardest part of the job is mainly the seasons, it gets busy in the Spring/Summer so it keeps you on your toes for what's going on each day. Most enjoyable part is definitely the people and work environment itself.  

I enjoyed working at BSL so much until I was laid off due to the company merging with another bigger company. They told everyone "Not to worry" but when they are laying off people every few months, it was hard not to worry....
Working there was GREAT, but Job security became more & more of a worry until it was there for me personally.
The people are amazing, hard working & don't deserve to get blindsided like many have been this year.


Worked as Inside sales and was very dissatisfied with the company as a whole. No room for advancement, upper management is disconnected from the reality of the front desk. Directors shuffle every few months when issues arise as they are untrained in their own departments and under value their employees. Internal micro managers bring down morale. No official training period. Sink or swim mentality. Not paid accordingly for required work load.

Barricades and Signs is a fun place to work -- the people are great to work with and the pace is relaxed, even in the busy season it's still a fun place to work. Workplace culture is fantastic, but some people who are in management shouldn't be in management and that made the days hard to take sometimes. Most enjoyable part of the job are the coworkers.

Barricades and Signs has a great leadership team and a great culture.  We were recently recognized as one of the fastest growing businesses in Canada and yet there is a maintained small company feel.  The company does operate in a seasonal capacity but for full-time employees there are great benefits, time off over christmas, paid personal/sick days, perks through perkopolis, HSA contributions, PPE allowance.
