Working as an Assistant Manager has been a rewarding and enriching experience. The role offers a perfect blend of leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving. I've had the opportunity to support the team in various capacities, from overseeing daily operations to implementing strategies that enhance productivity.

One of the highlights of this position is the chance to mentor and guide team members. It’s fulfilling to see colleagues grow and succeed, knowing I played a part in their development. The collaborative environment fosters creativity and innovation, allowing us to tackle challenges together and celebrate our successes.

Additionally, the skills I've developed in communication, conflict resolution, and project management are invaluable. The leadership support from upper management has been outstanding, creating a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Overall, being an Assistant Manager has not only strengthened my professional abilities but has also deepened my passion for effective team leadership. I highly recommend this role to anyone looking to make a significant impact in their organization while advancing their career.

A typical day of work consists of making shakes and scooping ice cream for customers that come into the shop after school, or after work. You will often work with families and students that come there either in the late afternoon, or after dinner (near closing time). 

The management is very loose, and most of the training is done by coworkers; it is a very independent-focused job. If you need constant guidance, this is not the job for you! Most of the workers are high school aged, and are all-female. 

The hardest part of the job is probably lifting the heavy tubs of ice cream, withstanding the cold temperature of the freezers, and scooping fresh, hard-packed frozen ice cream (watch out - your wrists are going to hurt after the first week!) The most enjoyable part of the job is that you can snack on ice cream and sit back as your dominant arm becomes ripped because of all that scooping!

The first thing I would do when I started my shift was cutting cakes, and after that I would be serving customers or restocking various items, such as cups, tubs of ice cream etc. At the end of the day I would clean the shop, which included the floors, windows and counters.

I learned how to use a point of sales system and how to talk to customers. I also learned how to conduct monetary transactions. 

My manager was very helpful and patient with me, as I needed to learn how to make many different types of ice-cream related foods. 

The hardest part of the job was remembering the specific amount of ingredients that there were in each different product, and the proper way to make them. There was a lot of stuff to remember and sometimes I forgot what the proper amount was. 

The most enjoyable part of the job was interacting with the customers .

Scooping icecream is a skill that I never thought would require so much strength! For the freshest ice cream at Baskin Robbins, it means that the freezer temperature is high and creates hard-to-scoop ice cream especially tubs that have been in there for longer periods of time. The management was not the best and oftentimes felt unappreciated. I learned valuable customer service and client interactions as well as handling difficult situations and working closely with other team members. The most enjoyable part is that the room temperature is fantastic due to the nature of the shop (cold freezers) and is great during summer shifts when it is hot outside. You can count on having AC during your hours.

I’ve worked here for over four years and for the quantity of tasks we are responsible to take care of as a “general employee”, minimum wage is unacceptable. There is no management hierarchy so regardless of how long you’ve been with the team or how hard you work, you won’t get a promotion or raise (even if you’re training other employees, cake decorating, etc.). The schedule is often flexible but don’t expect to get a lot of hours (we usually get 5hr shifts 2x a week for most of the year, except summer when we close later). Also, absolutely NO breaks or break room, especially if it’s a busy day (which is almost everyday when the weather warms up) so regardless of the length of your shift, if there’s customers you have no choice but to work the entirety of it. Might be a good summer job for kids in high school but you can definitely find better. 

The new owners prioritize their time over yours and will harass you for more hours even if you are a full-time student. There are a lot of responsibilities and not enough people working. You are expected to be done closing tasks half an hour after closing while still having to let customers in (you can't turn them away). They are strict about tub scraping and will micromanage you while you work. While I was there I did a few favours for them - coming in when I was not supposed to work because they didn't hire enough people - and they were ungrateful and rude when I wouldn't come at a time I told them I can TRY to make. Since I have left, I have been told they have become nicer since they were scared more people would quit, so maybe it is a bit better now since I called them out.

~ Cashier experience, Money handling, Refunds, Stock and Merchandising, all became skills I would need in future jobs.

~ I didn't find anything "hard" about this job. It was truly a great experience

~ The most enjoyable part, was learning the basics I would need for future jobs.

~ I had a wonderful Manager, who was very patient and willing to teach.

A typical day at Baskin Robins would be moving around large ice cream tubs, serving costumers and cleaning was also part of the job. I learned many things about customer service and time management working there. The people I worked with were kind and helpful. The hardest part of the job was probably rush hour. There was usually a time slot where many customers would come in at once and there were usually two employees working at once resulting in us having to work quick and get to everyone as fast as possible. The best part about the job would be the overall experience. I enjoyed greeting and serving customers as well as decorating the cakes.

It is a very great place to work as a student. I walk into the store which is a quite clean and organized environment and I have a list of tasks waiting for me as soon as I sign in. I learned customer satisfaction and how to manage the cashier. I was able to learn that making the customers happy is the main priority and I was very successful at doing my job. The hardest part of the job is when you have a lot of customers to deal with because it gets chaotic. The fun part has to be being surrounded by ice-cream!! Who doesn't love ice-cream?!!

Terrible environment, toxic staff, 9+ hour shifts with no break to sit or grab a bite to eat, no consideration of individual needs (e.g. my allergy to Windex was overlooked and I was still forced to do it), managers talked smack to other employees about weaknesses of certain team members, etc. Serving customers was fun and I managed to kindly connect with each person and get a smile out of them, though everything else was pretty toxic.
