A typical day can change from hour to hour,you are provided with a schedule week to week ,but can change the first minute you drive to your first job. When you arrive you are to provide services such as bathing ,dressing,teeth/denture care,bed making,food prep,light cleaning,meds,catheter care and perhaps ROM(range of motion).Organization is key as you are limited to so much time with each visit or sometimes there may be too much time left over and verbal and communication skills are an asset. You are on your own 99% of the time, so you don't have that co-worker around if you need it. I found the driving from one end of the city to the next the most challenging part as you are given 10 minutes of travelling time and well sometimes that is impossible. The client or resident ususally is okay with it,but the occasional resident/client is not,very challenging to please everyone...The most enjoyable being it pallitive or not is bringing some joy or just making a situation easier. A smile,giggle or hugs makes you feel like you have made someone's day is the most enjoyable part.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Government run off your feet for no respect and little pay that usually goes to parking or your vehicle, nurses and higher ups crammed into side by each stalls and are not allowed to talk to each other. NO friendliness, total abrogation of duty and compassion. The only thing this job taught me is how broken the system is and how foxes get let into the hen house so she can get big money and then move on to big money.  NOT A GOOD PLACE to work for.  Work here if you want to know how not to work for jerks.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Every thing.  Clients are fine company is the worst choice except for food industry.  Disorganization, lack of compassion, endangering everyone's lives including the worker and client.  do not work at this place.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
this is like a assembly line for humans that forgets its dealing with humans and not machines, no compassion, no insight allowed, no talking

I quit the job, the clients and I all suffered

Liked serving resdidents , did not like management in kitchen to many changes some staffwereperfevedregargless if they did job because who was mamagement in kitchen

too many changes inwithin the past year with buget cuts resultted hours decressed, which i think is the cook wich is contol of kitchen his perference is who he likes to work with on his shift, his perference is girlie which he does alot of duties for her

not very healthy from my ways working for a company which i did alot extra duties . because  i was cook i new the duties of kitcen routine

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
stessful  no communication which is lacking with becon until they get situation  resloved if they ever do

Atmosphere was led with a "who's on first" mentality.  No one ever seemed to know who was doing what.  Took 3 weeks to get an email address set up and two months for business cards.  While one manager was warm and kind, getting direction was like trying to bat a fly buzzing around the room.  Would not ever work for this company and do not recommend it.  Too many people thinking they are the chief and the main chief lazy and lackadaisical.  Getting paid is also an issue, missed payments and delays on paycheques due to the main chief working on her own time to get things done and not when the employees and volunteers should be paid.  Much turnaround at this office.

My job typically begins at 7 a.m. & on some days ends at 10 p.m. I like split shifts & have worked as many as 13 hours in a day. Some days I work 6 - 7 hours.
This job is flexible & varied. I work in the community 50% of the time & the rest in facilities.
The management are always striving to meet the needs of the clients and nice to the care workers.
A lot of my job is working one on one with the client. In the facilities & a few clients that require 2 workers, I meet other care workers. They are generally personable, friendly & efficient.
The hardest part of my job is sometimes driving long distances at night between clients.
The most enjoyable part of the job is making a difference in clients day to day living.

Management does not recognize the work that the nurses do at this job.  When approached with something that is 'unsafe' work practices they simply deny and say "no it's not" or "that's the way it is".  When co-workers went to the union to complain their life was made miserable until they quit.  They have a revolving door because they treat their staff so poorly, very few stick around.  9 nurses quit between November 2017 and February 2018 for this reason.  Because they have so many people quit all the time it's always the new guy training the new guy training the new guy.  Yet you are expected to do everything right and if you make a mistake you are punished.

Typical day at work , employees and management in a bad mood because they are overloaded and understaffed to deal with the amount of clients needing assistance.
No support from management , management always busy or not there , phone system is old and obsolete , lunch room is tiny , not safe in the night , doors are not locked , employees are exposed to anyone off the street , community health workers are completely unsupported by insufficient nurses , unable to take breaks due to the lack of employees , insufficient office supplies , building is too small for the amount of employees ,

I found working in the office at Beacon to be very unfulfilling. It was extremely disorganized, chaotic, and always a month behind in workload. There was no appropriate supervision of training and I almost made up how to do my job as I went along, then ended up training that way to new people. My manager was disengaged and seemed always unhappy and I couldn't tell if that was personal or unhappy with me? It wasn't until I started a new job that I realized how unhappy I myself had been there.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The organization doesn't take advantage of its  or steals from its employees . It embraces diversity and inclusion. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Working and dealing with coworkers who are job-insecure and ready to you under the bus.

Great work environment with diversity and inclusion.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Great, especially if I'm working with good and reliable coworkers.

As a newer employee I couldn't be more thrilled to work with Beacon. Working with an organization that cares so much about the community they serve has been incredible. It is a large, diverse non-profit that serve a variety of needs on Southern Vancouver Island there is never a dull day. Everyone cares about the work they do and the people they work with.
