Belwood Lodge and Camp

I have worked at Belwood Lodge and Camp for 6 summers and I have enjoyed every minute of it. Our participants are make every summer worth it. 
Working my way through many different positions and ending up as the Assistant Director I have experienced a lot. I have learned a lot about management and all aspects of being a leader and supervisor. I have learned when it is appropriate to discipline and when to let things go and move forward. 
The hardest part of working at Belwood would be how exhausting some days could be. The best strategy would be when rest was needed to take advantage of your breaks. 
Every summer gets better and better, working along side my co-workers and friends makes it a lot easier and enjoyable. But what brings me back to Belwood Lodge and Camp would be our participants and how much happiness they bring into my life.

This was a live-in camp where you would stay for an average of 10 days straight.  I learned so much there i could not fit it into this review page! But a basic explanation would be I learned how to supervise other people, care for specific needs, manage time, and i also gained great people skills!  The management was terrific, with a great chain of people to bring any questions, comments or concerns to!  The people i worked with were great and we all built quite a connection over the 10 weeks it is in operation for in the summer! The hardest part of the job is acclimating to living at a campsite being in charge of the safety and well-being of up to 7 individuals for up to 15 days straight (that would be the 3 week camp stay)  but the most enjoyable is the family bond and experience that you gain from working at this location!!

Working at Belwood was amazing. The atmosphere is amazing. The people are amazing, and the campers are amazing. Each day was different with the campers. Because the campers were adults with special needs, they made each day interesting. You never knew if they were going to have an outburst or make your day the best day by being the sweetest human being ever. At the beginning of camp, you were trained to handle the outburst they may have, so you were prepared for anything they may have thrown at you. I loved this camp with my whole heart. Unfortunately while I was there, I found out I was sick and needed to get surgery. So I had to leave early. As much as I wanted to stay..

The experience as a whole was very enriching. The job is more about the people who you work with than the money you receive from doing the job itself (even though in comparison to other camps Belwood pays quite a bit). Sometimes dealing with some of the camp's attendees could be quite stressful, but I would not let that interfere with your decision to get involved.

The lodgers and staff at Belwood Lodge & Camp are some of the most interesting diverse people I have ever met. It's hard work but absolutely worth it for the summer. I have worked there for three years and there is never a dull moment. I recommend this to anyone looking to enjoy camp culture at it's finest.

The most rewarding job I've ever had! There are a lot of responsibilities regarding daily medications, documenting care, and keeping the health center clean and stocked! However, it also includes, spending time with amazing, unique campers that will brighten your days, and participating in fun programs. A nursing job like no other and an amazing way to spend your summer!

I did enjoy working at a camp I had a lot of fun met a lot of great people but not great pay and long hours.
I learned a lot at this job, a lot about other people and the struggles people have with downsydrome

-terrible pay
-immature management 
-long days with barely a break 
-not proper training for what the job needs
-most enjoyable part of day was staff down time 
-a lot of gossip, drama

The most fun I have ever had at a job! Days can be long and stressful from time to time however it is worth it in the end! Staff over the summer become like your family.
