Management -

The worst , most unprofessional management I have ever worked for . They pretend to be your friend at first but their true colours eventually come out.

Workplace Culture - 

Very toxic ! Everyone always complains about how much they hate it there and how they are mistreated.

The Hardest Part of The Job -

Showing up everyday ready to work with a smile trying to stay positive hoping it gets better. But deep down knowing it will never change. 

The Most Enjoyable Part of the Job -

Working with my colleagues. There are some good people who work at Benmet . 

Conclusion -
Benmet is ok short term if you’re new to the scrap industry and just want to gain experience and scrap knowledge. If I had to do it again , I would not have applied at Benmet , it just was not worth it for me . 


Benmet is an excellent place to work, whether you're at the beginning, middle, or approaching the end of your career path.  We have a crew that spans the range and every one of them helps each other to grow and to learn and to progress.
Management can be tough when they need to be, but they are always fair and in your corner.  The job may get stressful when it is busy, but there's always someone to lend a hand and a smile or a joke.  That means a lot in a fast paced job.
At Benmet you know that you're a valued team member from your first day and you can be sure that you'll meet the owner of the company and he will know your name and have words of encouragement for you.

Being working at Bennett steel now for about a year and I've learned so much working here the guys are really good to work with and there's always room to move up the company ladder it feels like. Also if you need a day off for an appointment or for family things and you just explain to them the situation they are more than happy to accommodate your situation as long as you explain to them what is going on and sometimes they will go out of their way to help you even the owners, as well the owners if you have an issue you can go to them directly. And as long as you come in do your job do what's asked of you, you won't have any issues, nose to the grindstone. #bluecollarcrowd

decent wage for a day job not requiring a lot of physical labour 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management doesn’t understand their role in the lack of understanding of what it takes to be a commercial driver with no care or maintenance or compliance

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very cutthroat and manipulative

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Early morning starts working 12 to 14 hours a day lots of weight time both at customers and in the yard along with lots of miss management and lack of communication

Managers have their hands tied. VP of operations is interesting to say the least. During my 1 year I saw 20+ people come and go. Lots of work is done by key individuals, not spread appropriately, often because it’s delegated from VP. Safety is very much not important, VP will rush health and safety meetings along. 10+ hour days with little heads up when they want overtime. Illegal disposal of contaminated water directly into the sewer system. Other questionable business practices. 

Best job I've ever had! The owners truly care about the staff and always treat us like family and not just an employee. Lots of perks with good wages. Lots of overtime if you need it and always a happy place to be. The job can get busy, but the support i get from my coworkers is always top notch! I truly have fun at work which I thought was impossible before and I am very grateful to have the opportunity to work here.

Can be a very fast pace environment to meet shipping expectations. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Safe and clean work environment. Very friendly staff and coworkers.

This is the first time I've worked in a scrap yard.  My background has always been in the Transportation field one way or another .. ie: Ocean Imports, Customs, and Dispatch, but this is a whole new world, in which I'm enjoying the day to day challenges.  Teamwork is a "MUST" to be productive and successful !  Thank you !

While working at Benmet I have developed many business skills through cross-training. Management makes an effort to teach you all aspects of the business so you can be a well-rounded employee. I personally have experienced almost every position at the company giving me a plethora of new skills to add to my resume.

They hired me to forklift/run the bailer, instead I cleaned the yard, sorted through copper wire, help them catch up on somethings, told me I was doing good didn’t have any complaints from what I could tell, then was let go after a week and all I was told was “sorry it’s your probationary period” wouldn’t say anything else, do not recommend working here, have never felt more used in my life
