When I applied for this job, I was in need of a job with benefits, but I also wanted a job that was in a field I was interested in and that had a good work environment. That is exactly what I got. Not only are the medical benefits good and reasonably priced, Bennett's has a collaborative and welcoming team environment.
I started off as a Purchasing Clerk but have now become the Advertising lead. While there have been challenges along the the way, management always listened to my concerns and frustrations. 
If you work hard and fit well with the team environment, management not only listens to your concerns, but makes sure you are happy in the position you are in.
Days can be hectic and challenging as things tend to pop up that need to be dealt with and there are timelines in my department that need to be met, but thanks to a great team and people willing to help out when needed, I feel confident in the work I do and the company I work for.

Upper management has no soft people skills and think constantly giving negative feedback to their staff will have a positive outcome. I would suggest that they take a course on Blue Culture and people management. Learning to lead with curiosity and humility would be a great start to restructuring their work environment.  When voicing concerns and offering suggestions you are told that your being negative. 
Staff appreciate would really go a long way! Hopefully their recent high turnover will have a positive impact for the future of Bennetts. 

On the positive side, I did really enjoy working with the staff within the Kingston location. (Sales, reception and shop/delivery team)
Tried my best to show appreciation and give positive feedback to hopefully counter balance what was coming from upper management. Unfortunately the lack of work life balance and consistent mirco-managing took a toll on me. 
 



What is the best part of working at the company?
Working with new clients and repeat clients daily and fast paced environment 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Monthly quotas expected and being on straight commission and high admin work load maintaining sales orders and payments and deliveries and service 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Team work environment respect for each other but commission environment can bring out the worst in some co workers

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Greet each client and help select furniture and in home design maintain purchase orders, set deliveries, collect payments, email customers and keep track of service issues.  In store design presentations with clients and sales.

Numerous complaints regarding the store manager to the regional manager as well as the owners of the company by at least 50% of staff members for the following reasons:  unprofessional manager behaviour including favouritism, sharing personal company information with other staff members as well as sharing personal information with employees about other employees, harassment allegations by staff members.  The owners did come to Kingston to address the issues however, things didn’t improve they actually worsened!!  Unfortunately, good companies can be destroyed by bad managers...that is the number one reason good sales people leave!!

I am a current employee that has been with Bennett’s for 20 years.  I have experienced growth and stagnation.  The cycle is continuous!  The owners truly do care about their employees and their customers.  An “open door policy” has always been in effect with the owners - if an employee is unhappy, talk to an owner - they will hear you out!  This is a company and an industry that will definitely challenge you each day but will provide you much satisfaction at the end of the day.  If you are detail oriented, passionate about customer service and look forward to each day being different from the next - this is the company for you!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Driving the delivery trucks in tight city traffic and mall customer driveways

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very welcoming.  Training on the job with  fellow employees.  Very family oriented business.  Customer satisfaction driven business.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Could be long hours.  Very physical labour whether it be building furniture, pulling  orders or delivering furniture.  Must be in reasonably good physical condition

You get to learn and help customers find a good fit for their home which is fun but don’t expect to get paid accurately, culture is toxic and encouraged and management is not transparent about pay which they should be considering it is a commission based pay only job. You’re pumped up to make a big sale only to find out you get paid less than you expected. Turnover is extremely high because overall people eventually find out how poor of a work environment it is. I would highly not recommend working here.

I love working at Bennett's! Management is always readily available for any concerns and are always looking for ways to encourage you and help you succeed. Co-workers are always helpful in any way they can be and were exceptionally warm and welcoming when I joined the team. It is a joy to build rapport with our customer base and help with their decorating needs. Bennett's is definitely a customer centric environment, and ensures their employees feel truly integrated into the family business dynamic!

Pretty awful place to work. Its run by three family members (parents and daughter). The dad is the only one who kind of has knowledge about managing a business.  
Wages are minimum to $15  to start for Operations.  Very hard physically demanding job with long hours. Including EVERY Saturday.  Can't even book a single Saturday day off unless its part of a full week.
Benefits are a joke. They cot about $400/month for a family and doesn't even include glasses. Youre also forced to join their life insurance plan. Thats about $120/month.

I've worked for a few different companies and this one beats them all. The guys in the back are good to work with, the managers have high expectations but are fair and the company works hard to do things the right way. The owner is the daughter and seems like she's been running it for a while now. They really care about the customer and making sure they have a good experience. Benefits cost about $185 per month for my family and we get paid sick and vacation time.
