Bentley Leathers is a generally great space to work in but it can be difficult at times as the retail industry generally is. Depending on my shift, a typical day might include me opening the store, checking for sales updates, receiving our shipment and putting away the stock, maintaining a clean store and at the end of the day, cleaning up and closing the store. In addition to all the aforementioned duties, they all  (save opening and closing procedures) have to be done while simultaneously providing customer service and consistently making sales. It is undeniably a lot of work (compared to the pay) but it has given me many opportunities to develop great multitasking skills, interpersonal skills and leadership skills. 

I have been fortunate to be part of a great team and my manager does an excellent job at keeping everything together. Following her example, I try to keep everything running smoothly when she is not around. The majority of the staff that I have worked with currently and in the past have been wonderful. It has always been enjoyable working with them as they lighten the load on busy days and helps keep things interesting on the quiet days. 

The hardest part of working here has been the clientele. Considering our location, some of our customers can be difficult (to say the least). Having worked at other locations where the clientele has been much more pleasant, it can be frustrating at times to maintain composure. But that is something that needs to be maintained regardless of location or clientele and have so far managed to keep a  good reputation. 

The most enjoyable part, as I mentioned before, has to be getting to work with the rest of the team. I have a great time working with my co workers and even on the worst of days it's nice to have them around. Another thing I enjoy is providing genuine honest customer service and being appreciated for it. I know how important sales are to us and at times we have to push ourselves to make sales. But amid the difficult customers, there are always some that make me want to give them my best and in turn they appreciate the work that I do. That feels really good.

Too much workplace drama and favoritism at Bentley Square One mall, If you love getting micromanaged every single minute while you are there this is the place for you, I learned that the manager only cares if you are liked for you're personality and are good at kissing up to them, the manager doesnt consider your great performing work, it doesnt matter if you showed up for them in times of needs every time or met or even exceeded sales targets or cared about the customers and even if the manager acknowledges your good work, if you ever end up not kissing up or have a difference in opinion about something just be sure to know you will end up getting written up for even something minor they can find an excuse for and the hours here are really bad you can get zero hours most of the time and they have really weird hours which are like 3 or 4 in a week and in the middle of the day so you cant even work another job, you also have to call every week on Saturday to find out your schedule for the next week which is very inefficient and make you feel like a beggar, they can also cut your hours down at any moment and not inform you and apparently according to the manager its our job to keep up with the schedule, it doesnt make sense why the manager gets higher then minimum wage if the other employees are just going to do their job as well, the manager always wonders why theres a high turnover rate theres a reason why and there are many obvious reasons why people are leaving and going for other jobs, everyone who comes here always ends up leaving and its no wonder why, I have seen multiple new faces come and go and even current employees want to leave and the people who wanted to stay either got forced out by the managers toxic games, or decided they didnt want to put up with the abuse. ALWAYS WATCH YOU'RE BACK and NEVER SIGN ANYTHING, don't even bother working here no matter how desperate you are for a job there is far better out there and you and your coworkers will literally have PTSD problems because of them, it was unfortunate as the job itself was great but the work culture was very bad and the saying "people never leave jobs they leave bad bosses" is what applies to this place

I worked for this company for quite a few months. The experience and learning to sell items was a great learning curve. The hours were also bountiful. Coworkers were great to work with. However...

The management and environment was the worst I've ever experienced in any of my careers. I was not comfortable having to provoke people to sell things, and even when I tried, the pressure was still extremely difficult to do so, I felt I wasn't rewarded for my previous actions. This company should not be a "commission-esque" job. You can not force people to buy things they don't want and because of that... Many people hate the store.

Management was rude. I was expected never to push a customer towards management because I was told "they'll come back angry and I don't want to deal with that." If you're management you should allow customers to be angry and deal with them professionally, not tell your associates they have to deal with the harassment. Most people wanted to speak with management and I had no control over that.
Aside from that people came and left within a week constantly. It was ridiculous the amount of people who got hired, worked a shift and left. Though after awhile, I understood.
My final straw (among numerous) was when I was belittled for applying to other jobs. I stayed during a busy time (a whole month) to be polite. When management found out I had been applying to other jobs (assuming neighboring stores were gossiping) I was ignorantly approached by our manager saying "you didn't tell me you were applying for other jobs." In all my life, I've never heard of having to give any form of notice when applying to other jobs. I felt attacked simply for looking to better my employment (and mental health at that point) and at that time I hadn't even been contacted for another job. It was a day or two later that manangement got "snippy" for simply handing out resumes. 

Long story short, I don't think twice of ever working for the company again, let alone my friends/family and I doubt I'll ever shop there again.

I was a sales associate at the company Bentley Leathers for seven months and a typical day at work would include me speaking to clients on the floor as well as working the cash and restocking merchandise. This job really taught me all the aspects of being a great sales associate and what it takes to run a store since i had many days and nights of working alone and closing alone, as well as making deposits. My manager would help all the employees to be the best sales associates they could be, if you weren't doing your best she would notice it and help you with whatever she could. The employees were very close, we were only four employees so we really got to know each other well. The district managers didn't visit much and as I was there, head office started closing many stores without relocating employees which is what happened to my store, (2628) on April 3rd 2016. The hardest part of my job was the constant changing of promotions since we were a liquidation store, i really had to make sure i was up to date to not jeopardize a good sale. The most enjoyable part of my job was being able to interact with the clients and help them with what they needed. I enjoy being a sales associate because with the clients you benefit in many social skills, like how to manage people who are rude to you in a positive way for the company.

I had to work opening and closing shift and do lots of work with little to no incentive , basically the pay structure was like if everyone hit their monthly sales goals determined by the manager then you would get a bonus and it wasn't based on the individual hitting a certain amount of sales per month , which wasn't fair cause you could've done that but not coworkers cause they didn't care about the job as much as you did , the amount of tasks were given on any shift was the same amount as full time in similar roles , every time I did something wrong or made a mistake the manager would just throw a big tantrum and made me feel guilty and felt like as if the whole freaking world were about to crumble , good for the first paid job experience for my resume , but that was it , nothing more to look forward to , no benefits for part time and they only hire part time for associate unless you move up to a manager role and you would get full time hours and benefits , if you're looking for a full time job with the ability to make ends meet month to month  and not feel terrible after your shifts , NEVER APPLY HERE .

The "training week" is an absolute joke. You only get 2 shifts that week, days apart and there only 3hrs and they expect you to pick up and memorize everything from that. The location is also a 'dead-end' so it's a extremely slow-paced job. You barely get any customers which makes it hard to meet the sales quota sometimes and then you get a lecture and warning from your manager each time despite they themselves not always meeting the sales quota and knowing the location is basically 'dead'. Their also extremely pushy with the sales and micro-manage every interaction you have with the customer and always give "advice" back after. At the beginning I don't mind, but after a couple of weeks its annoying and irritating. 
The manager and team leader there will also not hesitate to talk behind your back and they themselves create a toxic work environment. 
They also won't hesitate to throw you under the bus to appease to the district manager and head office to save themselves, and the company some money. 
Don't even bother working here as a summer job, you'll be lucky to even get 10 hrs a week and get to do anything productive. 

I worked for Bentley's for 6 years, two as an associate and four as an Assistant Manager. The general sales floor atmosphere was one of collaboration and team work, where we were all coming together to work for the goals of the store, and not trying to compete for sales or out do each other. We rarely had issues with unpleasant or rowdy customers and took a real pride in being able to assists customers in finding exactly what suited their needs.

However upper management at this company can make this job a real problem (specifically for the London area, at time of my departure.) they are very unpleasant to work with and often just downright disrespectful to employees. 
Pay and benefits were extremely insufficient for the position and amount of work required/general expectations.
Overall if you are looking for part time sales-associate employment it's a good position, but I would not recommend taking on any management responsibilities. 


There is no "typical" day at Bentley. Each day brings it's own unique challenges-such as visual changes,new sales promos,deadlines and trying to help a customer track down the perfect suitcase-and having to search every store in B.C! I have learned how to think on my feet,assess a situation and make a decision with confidence.I have also learned the value of listening-to my staff as well as to customers. I feel I learn interesting things from many sources.My co-workers are a vital part of my daily schedule,I am fortunate in that I have a good support from all levels.The hardest part of my job would be finding new,interesting ways to keep the staff motivated during peak seasons. I find keeping focus,having an action plan as well as keeping your sense of humor are key.The most enjoyable part of my job is that even though the basics stay the same day-to-day, there is enough variety and challenge to stimulate and encourage me to go "above and beyond" my goals.

a typical day is being on the sales floor and give great customer service to all  customers that walk through the door, and  listen to their  travel stories where they have been or going to. Through the years I've learned many things about luggage  and great places to visit.  Its not a hard job in general but its a challenging job at moments but also very rewarding at times and enjoyable . At back to school its great to see the kids come and pick out their backpacks and ready to take on another school year or going for the first time. Customers coming in to pick their luggage because their going on a great trip, Bentley has been and still is a nice company to work for but recently went through alot of changes, with restructure of the company,and many stores closed. I've worked with many nice people at the store level  and  district managers and have a great relationship with management, past and present. In conclusion I like to say I've learned many things while working for Bentley, Payroll, inventory, schedules, conversions , and led a team of 10 sales people.

Hired by a nice person who promptly quit because she couldn't deal with her assistant manager anymore. That should have been my first warning sign. Replacement manager was very rude, immediately cut down my hours and then told me I had to shut up and deal with it because she was the manager now. Co-workers ranged from scattered and whiny to just plain unpleasant, micromanaging me; and making nasty observations about my ability to do my job and then refusing to speak to me after I got hired for an office job. 

Worst part was - even though I quit for a better job - the manager never sent in the proper resignation paperwork to head office which almost got me into serious trouble and then lied about it to my face. She also purposefully withheld my T4 at the store, making no effort to mail it out to me or contact me about picking it up. I was forced to involve her boss to get this all sorted out--literal months after I had left.  In my opinion,that's a firable level of incompetency.
