I was quite recently hired to work in the housekeeping department . All I had for training was 4 days and then was on my own on the 5th day to tackle the rooms assigned to me ...After working hard to remember everything that is to be done in the allotted time frame..of course I made mistakes here and there , but perfection doesn't happen in my short time working there..The first day on my own turned ugly when I was being picked apart for everything.. I got upset that I wasn't doing that well, I became frustrated and almost quit on the spot ,  but decided to give it a bit longer and over time I would get it all perfect, and I was beginning to think that I was doing a decent job of it..as I wasn't getting too many complaints about this or that... 
My last day of work went great or so I thought... After giving my supervisor my completed room list and key .. I smiled and waved and said I would see her the next morning.
The following day my supervisor called and gave me the day off along with a few others as it wasn't busy ..I hung up and I said I would see her after the weekend.
, but later that day I received a call from the housekeeping manager who informed  that she did an investigation.. because someone was not changing every bed , She set small traps to catch the culprit and low and behold she some how came to the absurd conclusion that it was ME ! 
When I asked her the room number so I could think back to what was needed for the room ..
I was told that she couldn't remember the number she then went on to tell me one of my rooms with two queen beds weren't changed ..
I got upset because my double Queen rooms that day had only one bed slept in ! So the other didn't need to be as it was still made !! . It didn't matter even after I tried to explain...I was fired !! So in the week of training..then not even two full weeks on my own... I was accused without proof ..and let go... I have never felt more embarrassed..

 Normally, when I have done something incorrectly at previous jobs I have been given more training, not to mention the staff wasn't very helpful nor friendly...

In my opinion the housekeeping department is a den of politics, and cliquey women ..

My suggestion for anyone stepping into that climate is to be as meek and stupid as possible but also watch your back because you don't know if the knife will be twisted or jabbed ....or by whom..

Fired over the phone with no proof!!!

Working for the Best Western Premier C Hotel by Carmen’s has allowed me to grow within the company as well as open my mind up to new and enticing possibilities. We work as a team to illustrate exceptional service to all our guests. With Chairman Awards, and the 2019 JD Power award for excellence Service of the Hospitality Field, our company is exceeding with providing more prospects to wow our guests. I have personally seen our company mature in the cultivating world of all things hospitality. Although we are shy of being a 9-year-old company. Our Carmen’s Group Roots are our role models in a world that is constantly growing. 

Upon getting hired by the Carmen’s Group Inc, for the C Hotel Position.  I didn’t know what to expect honestly, but I was pleasantly surprised. It took me a good few weeks before I started to notice how truly inspiring our work place is. Yes, there is a lot to learn, yes, we always have to be at the top of our game, and yes there is always something to do. It sure is never a dull day at the company. New faces with every event, new prospects with every guest we encounter. And most of all, if you are a kind compassionate person with an open mind, every day can be a great chance for you to move up in the company. Not only in the position you are at, but there are many opportunities to cross train in any department. Our managers always listen to our new ideas, and any improvements within the company that we all can benefit from. 

Some helpful tips in applying for any position within the company:

Wear your best! – You are not only representing yourself but everything you can offer to any position you apply for, anywhere. 

Try to be as honest as possible with any skills, and services that you offer – It can be a bit difficult in obtaining a position you care for without the correct talents. 

And last but not lease: Be adaptable, this is a hospitality field with new and exciting possibilities to learn and to grow.

Could have been fun to work there. It certainly  had that potential but management culture was to never let you feel you accomplished anyghing of real value.  You always felt that if it wasn't for us our manager would be happy.  

A typical day would start off with me listening to my co-worker talk endlessly in the back office on the phone to her friends and only look up when a customer was at the front desk.  I would try to pry out of her what had happened on her shift.  She would always say nothing but then it would always be something.So shed leave and II'd begin the first xcell report and get a call that there was a party rin room such and such So I would phone that offending room and state that there was a complaining guest and would they might please keep it down ;  I would then ask  the guest with the complaint if the'd want to change rooms.  "no".     So  3 hours later that they were at it again.  So I would call the offending party again.  Once again they would assure me that they were going to bed.  So a few hoursl lat er I would again get a complaint afrom the same guest and I  would phone the police and evict the party.  They the complaining party would tell me that they wanted their money back even though I had offered them another room and they had said no.  

All this while I would be doing more ex-cell reports, counting cash, verifying deposits to the safe.  Plunging toilets, running towels, running up remotes, verifying guest service reps work, Charging for pet fees that were never charged by service reps. Making certain the "no-show" were charged.  Charging off guests bill who were departing that day. I was also responsible for Ordering office supplies, Best Western Point's Club reward bag supplies. and starting the breakfast bar.  I also had to inventory all gift shop items every day.I'd report to my next shift what had gone on and then would go home

A typical day at work: We would have a short meeting in the morning, assigning rooms and explaining any special circumstances. Then we would go around to our rooms opening the doors and windows to air out the room, taking the laundry out to bring to the laundry room at lunch, and checking to see if there are any leftover items in the room. Then we would clean the bathrooom, including the bathtub, shower walls, floor, sink, and counter area, ensuring no hairs were left and every faucet was shiny. Wipe down every surface in the room, and clean any and all mirrors. At lunch we would drop off the laundry and pick up any linens we need. After lunch we make the beds and arrange the towels in the rooms. Stock the room full of the items it needs, and then take a final walkthrough. The hotel had a breakfast bar which was stocked and opened every morning, the responsibility rotating through the staff. When you were assigned it you cleaned the floors and tables, and tidied the room. Re-stocked all the items including cereal, milk, juice, sugars etc. Arrange the daily pastries and take a final walkthrough before opening. The hotel also had a pool, work out room, and barbeque area that was also on rotating shifts. You would clean the bathrooms in the pool, as explained earllier. Vacuum and wipe down every machine in the work out area. Clean the tables and take out the garbage in the barbeque area.

I learned about the procedures a hotel uses for cleaning, and how to be a housekeeper. The management was friendly and fair. My co-workers were enjoyable and easy to work with.

The hardest part of the job was making the beds, especially the bottom sheet, especially when the bed was pushed into a corner. The most enjoyable part of the job was stocking it and seeing the final product.

If you're a robot that will dedicate your life to the hotel, or a student working part time, you'll be fine. Otherwise, go elsewhere, the workplace ethic of the full time staff there is barely human, and the (absentee) owner's business ethic will make you question life itself. 

Be careful what you say to whom, it WILL be used against you. But if you're fine minding your own business and doing the daily tasks for about an hour, and spending the remaining 7 hours doing barely anything you'll be fine.

Great support staff, housemen (a.k.a. janitors), maintenance people, and the housekeeping are fantastic people that you'll WANT to be friends with. Barely got to get to know the rest of the front desk staff as I basically worked alone my entire (relatively short) time there.

Management disapproves of independent minded people that would rather know why certain things are done the way they are, instead of doing them blindly. Also, the Accountant/Front Desk Manager barely works during the daytime, so good luck getting feedback from the only person that can tell you if you make mistakes. 

Hardest part is the dead time, you'll literally sit there for hours doing nothing at times, you'll yearn for the times where 15 people show up at the same time.

Best part however is when people feel valued by you due to the nature of your good service, seeing your name appear in reviews will make your day. 

And like mentioned above, DON'T OPEN UP TO PEOPLE WITH YOUR SAME JOB TITLE, some people actually arrive early with the specific intention to talk with management about what goes on behind their backs.

worked here as a dishwasher, I liked everyone in the kitchen and enjoyed free meals, sadly free meals for dishwashers have become less of an industry standard with most employers but BW always took good care of their dish-pit slaves so kudos to them for that.

make no mistake if you are working for a minimum-wage employer you ARE a SLAVE and NOT an EMPLOYEE, I envy those lucky people who never have to take a minimum-wage job,  it's not that you aren't treated well or anything but they have a quota to meet every month so what that means is make one slave do most of the work and get it done within a tight deadline....a bit unfair in my opinion so BW will most likely forever have problems with the dishwashers they hire(huge overturn I think)guys will either quit or be let-go due to the unfair nature of the job, in specific closing dish-pit after a banquet...good luck to future closers.
I have nothing bad to say about my chef/boss, he has a lot on his shoulders as a kitchen chef and does the best he can even though his choices won't always be the right ones, but one thing I won't miss are his lame jokes, he was one of those people who was always trying to make others laugh and it really wasn't his CALLING in life so best to stick with what you're good at. pick a profession....either you're a big-shot chef or you're a stand-up comic.

other than that good place to work in my opinion IF you are a good enough slave! and the chef is pretty good at his role but he's still young with much to learn, my advice to future dishwashers(closers esp.) is you will do good here if you are fast, REALLY FAST at closing, good luck to you.

First off, I refuse to go against my beliefs and how I was raised. I am not a dishonest man.
This property is not a BWPlus property, but still had the sign up, confusing my guests upon arrival, as many guest know their BW loyalty benefits.
Most properties will notify of Hot Tub or Pool unavailability during the days it is closed, but this property never made any effort, and we were instructed to notify only if asked. The hot tubs were due to close for months, upsetting many guests upon check in.
The property also underwent a few GM's before my arrival, and the trend was the same during my time. At the end, many staff benefits were being taken away, while raising employee expenses such as staff meals and staff accom rent. They were making rules up as they went along at this property, some in conflict with employment standards. 
I was also incorrectly paid, where they were trying to pay me as low of a wage when I departed, which I know how to protect myself professionally. I eventually got paid the proper amount. 
This property ended my dismissed me from my job and had the audacity to mark it as "quit". I put in my week notice and they were trying to convince me what the labor laws were, where I had to notify them of what the labor laws and employment standards rules were regarding job termination, regardless if it was initiated by the employer or employee.

Otherwise, I learned a lot and would loved to have stayed if I did not lose my mother and had to travel back home, which my manager seemed to take personally and immediately became hostile, as they did not take employees leaving their job too well.

Starting every work day with more work than one person should be given based on the amount of allotted 30 minutes time to clean rooms but are expected and pushed to clean in 20 minutes time because of being short staffed people are given more work than one person can completely clean to full satisfaction so your rushed and also very unprepared of the supplies you need to complete tasks eaning it isn't a positive work environment when nothing is done to address the issue when its brought to multiple supervisors.  Its only made different for long term employees to start fully prepared to complete rooms to be sold but other staff end up having to go into said rooms Firstly before shift time starts to strip rooms on unpaid time to be able to give the person in laundry tasks to do and also to get ahead of the heavy work load then  upon a second entry into the room/suite to clean the room and then still have to go back into said room a third or more times to stock linens not available when rooms are cleaned upon the second entry to rooms/suites.
Also the punch in/out time machine for your time cards is intentionally set to the wrong time and has been made aware to the GM and supervisors and it is kept that way and you lose time punching in and out 
One of the most negative work environments and definitely a hotel that is lacking of proper management and I wouldn't recommend people even staying at this location or even working at this location 🙄

management not listening to the needs and concerns of the employees. They are more focused on their own agenda and personal gain, rather than creating a positive and supportive work environment.

The workplace culture is toxic and filled with negativity. There is a lack of teamwork and collaboration, as everyone is out for themselves. There is a constant feeling of stress and pressure, as the management sets unrealistic expectations and deadlines.

The hardest part of the job is dealing with the constant lack of resources and support. Whether it's not having enough linens or towels for the rooms, or broken equipment that is not being fixed in a timely manner, it makes it extremely difficult to provide a high level of service to the guests.

Despite all the challenges, the most enjoyable part of the job is interacting with the guests and providing them with a positive experience. It's rewarding to see their satisfaction and knowing that you were able to make their stay enjoyable, despite the obstacles faced within the company.

Overall, my experience at Best Western has been poor due to the management's lack of support and the toxic workplace culture. It has taught me the importance of effective leadership and creating a positive work environment for employees to thrive in.


I worked here for a year and it was nothing but being overworked, treated poorly by management and any little thing you did wrong almost counted as a write up. Standards are unbelievable and the staff is not nice to be around. Management picks favourites and the hotel owners are not considerate at all. They will fire you over simple things or things that was their fault but then blamed on you. I do not recommend working here. They would also advertise the job as a higher wage to new employees and on job boards while keeping their current employees at a lower previous wage and then would not speak about it until an employee brought it up. They would then hand out raises and say “it’s not because someone spoke up”. I was once told not to clean a room because of a case of lice in a room, and that it needed to be professionally cleaned, but then 4 hours into my shift I was told it was fine to clean. Managers constantly tell you how bad your work is every morning before your shift and belittle you. The hours are difficult to get around because you never know when you’ll really be finished your shift. Your quota could be 5:30pm and you may leave by 7pm if your supervisor finds more things for you to do. Please save your breath with this job and move on.
