Can be a great experience, being in a field where you can help people everyday.  The people you care for become your family, especially if you spend years working with them.

Working with behaviour issues is no walk in the park though.  Depending on where you're placed, you may be working with very aggressive people.  Even when they aren't aggressive, the behaviour issues are extremely draining.

$21 per hour really isn't worth the stress.  The company has a poor relationship with their workers, and they claim to keep wages down to funnel the funding towards care, however they have more executives on the sunshine list than any other support agency in the region.  They're fine with your wages being low, but are comfortable paying themselves well.

Because it's a stressful environment, and staff are underpaid, there is also a lot of staff to staff conflict and frustrations.  Not to mention staff often dont follow the set out care plans for the individuals in your care, and that makes your job harder, piling onto your frustrations.  If you're in this job to help people, you can't just come in to work every day and mind your own business like a regular job.  These are people you're caring for, not car parts.  When they aren't cared for right, you'll want to speak up, and management wont care to hear your complaints cause they dont want a hassle from the union.  This cycle is very discouraging, and gets in the way of the thing that should make this line of work rewarding.

If you want to do this kind of work, either be a PSW at an aged home (often a great experience) or put in the hard work, and go to school and get your RPN.  Then you can at least feel like you're being well compensated for how stressed you feel.

This company does have great benefits, and a great pension. But you'll burn yourself out trying to make it to your retirement.

There is acknowledgement that everyone is working toward the same goal of supporting people. 

We balance multiple priorities during peak periods, and the team environment makes these challenges manageable and meaningful. I get a genuine  sense of purpose and connection knowing that we provide critical and meaningful supports to the community.  Our work truly  makes a difference and I feel surrounded by colleagues who care about what they do. I'm given lots of opportunities for development, and my contributions are fairly acknowledged and rewarded.

Overall, it’s a place where you grow, contribute meaningfully, and feel appreciated.

A typical day involves supporting families, collaborating with a great team, and helping children build communication skills. In 2.5 years, I’ve learned so much about clinical practice, teamwork, and leadership, and I’ve had incredible opportunities for growth — moving into a permanent role and advancing into 3 higher-level positions. Management is supportive, approachable, and truly invested in staff success. The workplace culture is positive, encouraging, and focused on teamwork and compassion. The hardest part of the job is balancing the emotional demands and workload at times, but the most enjoyable part is seeing real progress, celebrating milestones with families, and feeling like the work truly matters.

In my short time here, I have witnessed and heard numerous stories from individuals and their families, showcasing the profound impact the organization has on their lives. Working with the clients every day can be difficult due to challenging behaviours but also really rewarding when you know you're doing a good job at helping the individual(s) you're providing care for. The benefits are nice too. 
This job feels amazing during the beginning but you'll often be forced to work overtime, the environment is toxic and if you raise an issue to management or HR, chances are it'll be ignored. Whether it's for your client, the house, or a staffing issue, they generally don't care. Some managers are good but can do little to back you up.
 It can be incredibly dangerous when working there, people get hurt quite frequently and that's even if you're doing things the right way. The pay is not worth your mental and physical well being. You'll get paid poorly while a majority of people higher up in the company are on the sunshine list. The union is great but the company itself does not care about you as a person.

Working with individuals having very high mal behaviors it makes it very stressful and dangerous for staff. You are often put in dangerous situations where there is not enough staffing. 
The managers that I have worked with are overworked and not equipped to do their job and are sometimes very unprofessional. They often get caught up in the shady work culture. 
Client advocation for clients is frowned upon even though their stand represents other wise. Managers seem to prefer that you "join in" rather than speak up when staff are not following proper protocols etc. 
I worked with some amazing people but a majority of the staff is burnt out due to working conditions.
The hardest part of the job was watching clients needs get ignored and dealing with very high behaviors with very little support by management. 
The most enjoyable part of work is obviously the clients. It is also the odd employee who has a good moral compass and who is there for the right reasons.

The different areas of the company rarely work together or communicate. For example, the head office is two floors and both floors don't like each other. Certain jobs (most 2nd floor management, human resources etc) enjoy cushy jobs with decent pay, benefits and perks like working from home. They tend to be the last to respond to communications, the most out of the loop with the work of front line employees, and the most cliquey. In my entire time at the company I never saw the CEO once. Those who do not enjoy the better jobs are often working for low pay, no recognition, and in high-stress situations. Due to the nature of those they help it can be a dangerous job. There is a lot of unhappy employees, a lot of gossip, and it is just not worth the little pay you get. I sadly watched the high turnover and even some employees who started happy and left emotionally unstable. The company did not do well by them from what I saw and it was tough to believe in what they stand for. I was happy to leave this place behind. 

In 1937 Bethesda exsisted to help people. You would think this was a company to help support clients with an intellectual disability today but it exists just to make money and pad the pockets of the management. In an organization like this there are 4 people on the sunshine list, shameful. The clients are made to shop at cheap grocery stores and can't do many things because they can't afford to staff proper. The staff work short a lot keeping the clients at home and not living life. It is unsafe if you work with behavioural clients as you don't have proper staff. Management will throw you under the bus to make an example out of you. Your own supervisor does not support you. You bring up concerns of safety and it's swept under the carpet. The clients are awesome and make each and every day. I give to the clients while the company sucks the life and spirit out of them and the staff. Person Centered NOT but rather Money Centered.

At the beginning you're wearing rose coloured glasses. Everything seems so amazing, you're feeling helpful and useful.
Eventually you start to see the truth behind the company. Bethesda is the most reactive company I've ever worked for, when they should be proactive. 
Tons of people getting hurt, short staffed, higher ups have biases based on their own personal judgement of someone (especially HR!), and gossip is a huge problem. 
The amount of work you put in is never recognized, or praised. 
Your pay rate is amongst the lowest in this industry, and Bethesda rewards you with a $20 PC gift card for Christmas. 

If they can avoid going the extra mile for their employees they will. Be careful how much you invest into this company because it will never be returned. 

Bethesda is a good place to work with a supportive and professional environment. The team is welcoming, and coworkers are always willing to help and work together. Management is approachable and does a good job communicating expectations and providing guidance.

I’ve gained valuable experience while working here. The overall atmosphere is respectful and supportive.

Overall, Bethesda is a good workplace with a strong team culture, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a supportive and productive work environment.
