The work is either very fast paced or not at all. The workplace politics get in the way of much tasks and processes unfortunately (social cliques and power structure comes into play often). Workers were required to supply their own tools which meant having the proper tools for the job was either a major problem or not at all. As you may have gathered from this review, the variables of extremes was always on one side or another with any situation. I'm being vague because no scenario was ever the same as the last, but that isn't exactly company specific. Work schedule is horrible, they could need you the night of a call at site at 3am, or not hear from the office for an entire month. 

I have worked for big bear for the last year and it has been great. This is an awesome company who i am blessed to be employed by.  This is the most job security i have had in the 5 years at least. Big bears management and owners treat all there employees with great respect and always put the people first.  weather it be a safety concern or personal issue there is always someone willing to listen and help. Anyone employed by big bear energy services has the opportunity to progress and shine. The future is looking great. 

I would recommend this company to anyone who wants a positive change or anyone just comming into the oilfield.

If you wanna be abused with your well being tossed out the window this is a great place to be, with next to no work, and an absolutely horrible management system. No one knows what’s ever happening in the field and there’s next to no team work. The supervisors and superintendents you may see them get out of their truck once at the beginning of the shift. But they’re always back to camp nearly an hour early. Pay can be good when you work. Work life balance doesn’t exist, it’s all or nothing. I’m extremely disappointed in what it has turned out to be.

This company continually looking for entry level employees.  Then you complete endless online training and jump through endless hoops only to find out there really is not even enough work for their regular employees, let alone all the new hires they churn through.  If you want to sit by the phone waiting for work, this company is for you.  You want to work and earn a living, apply somewhere else.

The supervisors are sexist, when a green hand is out on the field they sit in their truck and expect other people to train. Saw a trailer come off on the highway in front of me and instead asking the person who’s trailer came off if they are ok they asked how was the trailer and didn’t ask how he was. Worked for over a month straight and asked for my a weekend to spend time for my partners birthday. They gave it to me and took it back once I was on my way to Calgary.

Want to feel undervalued and get zero appreciation from unprofessional and inexperienced management, all whilst never feeling any job security what so ever? Then this may be your place. Other than that, it's a quick buck if that's what you're after.

 Big Bear Energy in Sylvan Lake is a "who you know" ran business, what you know is irrelevant unless you're an obedient, lifeless field grunt.

I gained some valuable experience working here and met some wonderful people. The family work environment was great but found it difficult to succeed once the company advanced and grew beyond that family work environment into a corporate one. Still great people here and would recommend them as an employer.

Fast paced with a high level of multi tasking. Very challenging market.
Some very good equipment and people but just to many sore spots to heal without some restructuring. Local culture proved to be difficult to work with and try change.

Great company to work for! Very much a team environment with great wages and benefits. Management is extremely flexible and everyone from the field, shop and office work together extremely well. All around great team to be apart of.

Good Company lots of room to grow. Good goup of people working there. New equipment being aquired all the time. No shortage of work. A company that does treat there guys well
