It's a very fast past enviroment, however there is so much back end issues and issues with upper managment.

Theres no work culture or attempt to encourage one. Its make your sales or get yelled at. Beyond that, there is no recognition for truly excelling. I had a staff members make a $10,000 sale and I was told I couldn't do anything to recognize that staff member in a more meaningful way beyond congratulating them. I was told by upper managment that we don't want to encourage rewarding staff for 'just doing their job'. Which makes sense for small sales. But $10,000 to $30,000 in a singular sale to one customer, in a discount retail environment is not just doing your job. 

They also discouraged me from planning for internal training and promotion of existing staff by saying that we don't want people we have to train to a position. We want them already there. 

There was a lot of expectations and goals set that required me and and other managment to work 14 hours or more to just make sure it happened. It was never told to us we had to, sure, but if we wanted to reach the goals the company expected of us in the time frame they wanted, that was simply what had to be done. 

They also have a very high turn over rate when it comes to managment. 

It's a nearly unknown buisness in Alberta but they set the KPI's nearly unattainable high, and then will yell at and write up managment for not meeting those goals. 

The marketing, despite being a larger focus now, is next to nonexistant. 

It should also be mentioned that the benefits company they're with, absolutely no one knows who they are. Where ever you're going will have to manually submit everything. I've had staff members be denied the use of their benefits at various places. I know it was personally very difficult for my dentist office to figure out how to bill my benefits plan. Despite being in hours of operation, the Benefits provider will not answer the phone.

There is a lot of favoritism, and especially nepotism in this company. At the end of the day it is still partially family owned, which leaves room for their children to come in, with no previous experiance in a role, and get high level positions.

On promotion, I recieved minimal structured training from other managment or none because upper managment didn't tell them that I was coming for training. 

Ecomm division is small and overworked, but has always gone above and beyond in my experience.

They afforded me a lot of training and opportunities which I'll be forever grateful for but I'm happy to bring these to other places. 

Great place to work. Definitely learned a lot here. The manager is an awesome mentor and someone who will help you progress in your work. It is also a family business, so it does not have that corporate feel. Highly recommended to apply here, especially if you are trying to get into the online eCommerce stage.

 I personally have learned a lot, and I am very happy with how I have been treated. It is not a high pressure job, so you will not feel overworked but it will challenge you in different ways to help you grow. 

The culture is pretty good, everyone has their own tasks and the people that work there are quite sociable making it a great atmosphere. 

This is a great place to work for those starting off their journey in the online world and looking to expand or start. 

The manager specifically asks each employee what they would like to learn and it is a huge benefit for all who join. The schedule is also really flexible and it really helps if you are in school or doing a side business.

Work in the warehouse and absolutely do not do it under any circumstances. This job will absolutely destroy your mental health. Often times,  I go home on Fridays already depressed about the fact that I'm gonna have to go back on Monday. It's the most monotonous, repetitive job in the world. The main lead is an absolute disaster and will constantly yell at people for things that don't make any sense and will expect you to do ten things at once. They make everyone take breaks at the same time which isn't a huge deal but is quite annoying. I also witnessed several times the managers not caring that people are in physical pain, including working someone who clearly needed a break because they were having troubles breathing and they kept forcing this person to keep working through the pain, which could have been dangerous. Multiple people have had mental breakdowns at work and multiple people have quit immediately after starting due to management. Do not work here please. Also leads, whether they are good at their job or not, have to do a significant amount of stressful work, yet are paid just one dollar more than the average worker, showing that they aren't appreciated. at all. 

The job is receiving pallets from a truck and then processing it into our store system. It's a lot of standing and it is physical. When processing I need to make sure the product is good. If not, I'll then clean/fix and make sure it is good. 

The job has helped me make quick accurate decisions that I don't second guess. I've also learned how to better use critical thinking. That's because I need to make decisions, and think about what I'm doing.

Managment is good. They will listen to me if I have question or suggestion. But usually I don't see them that much.

The hard parts can be learning the system we use and how we process product.

Overall it's pretty rewarding. I've learned about different products and how they work. I've come to a better understanding of things we sell in the retail store. I've had the opportunity to try out the tech side of the warehouse and learn how to fix/troubleshoot tech items.

The job isn't all good of course. It can be demanding at times, needing to get out a specific amount of product so we can ship it to our stores. Or making sure I'm making the right calls on the product I sent out. 
It's usually fast paste, but it can be hype fast paste at times.

The Warehouse/Driver position pays $20/hour. The job mainly involves sorting and compacting waste materials, often in very unpleasant conditions. Expect long shifts of repetitive work with little support from management.

For the driving role, you are mainly used as a relief driver to cover shifts when others are absent. The permanent drivers receive over $24/hour and primarily do driving, while relief drivers spend most of their time in the warehouse. Driving shifts are inconsistent—usually just one or two days a week.

Many warehouse employees have been working for years at minimum wage without any pay increases. Advancement opportunities are limited, and management tends to focus on pushing for faster results rather than supporting staff.

Overall, this job feels exploitative, with heavy workloads, low pay, and a toxic work culture. It may be better to look elsewhere if you are seeking stable and fair employment.

Wtiting this as a former employee. I would absolutely never tell anyone to work here. This place is a joke, management is non existant, the pay is a joke for the amount of work that needs to be done on a daily basis. Management can often be found sitting in the office most of the day, doing meaningless paperwork that has nothing to do with operational needs. Staff are left to run the floor helping with customers, without supervision. And then management complains how work is not being down when leaving young inexperienced workers who have barely any knowledge of retail to merchandise and keep the store running. No care for physical safety of staff or customers, theft is a problem that is ignored, and all around its just a terrible place to work. Raises are yearly, and you're lucky if you get one. I wouldn't suggest working here when there are much better opportunities with other retail companies, with the same pay rate for half the work. 

I had worked there for 3 years with no job advancement at all. The manager did not help out at all, and would talk about his employees like we were hours on a schedule. The whole Management team did not appreciate any of their workers. Any complaints sent to Head office would be thrown away.  Supervisors and manager was very racist to their staff and the customers. There were some co-workers who were amazing, however the whole "team" was very toxic. They would not pay you accordingly for overtime and would get upset if you did not work extended hours.  Their only solution, if you were causing a "problem" was to stick you on cash. They would not give proper wage increases. They would tell you that you are getting a yearly wage increase, however it only changed because the minimum wage increased.  They also had a really big rodent issue throughout the store and warehouse. The mice feces would get on the food and furniture.  

I joined the Big Box two months ago and I noticed that the team is so helpful and trying to accommodate your schedule and personal needs. 
I learn some new stuff in the retail like handling customers concerns and i can manage a morning shift alone along with my supervisor and another teammate.
not pressure however you have tasks to do Everday and should complete it before end of shift. the fun part is dealing with customers and help them during their store visit. 
I see that my supervisor joined the company since a year and started as associate then get promotion also the manager starting with the company as associate. It has good chance to career growth. recommended.

working as associate is an easy job, arrange merchandise, serve customers, and handle cash machine.  you need to work fast and complete tasks.
you need to be ready to work on weekends like all retails if needed.
Managers understand your needs and can arrange schedule to allow you handle your personal life.
there is a place to take your break and enjoy your food. sometimes my manager brings pizza or other food for the team. so kind.
you will be allowed to use casual dress, and they give you nametag and apron.
you will learn some skills for sure and if you are doing well, they can promote you to supervisor like my current supervisor who started 13 months back. 

My experience at Big Box has been challenging and disappointing.The work environment feels demoralizing, with n very little support from management. Leadership appears ill-equipped to provide the guidance and assistance needed for employee development.

Compensation does not reflect the demands of the job, and there have been multiple instances where employees (Me included) were sent home whenever the management felt like making it impossible to earn a proper living. I would advise potential applicants to consider other opportunities where their contributions and well-being are actually valued.
