Big White Ski Resort

A typical day at work is preparation of food item for the day and stock up the line. Work the line for breakfast and part of lunch time plating, and deep fryer cooking, helping refill, and stock up food items.
Afternoon is preparation and portioning of food items, stock up front area cooler, and back area food cooler, and line.
I learned how to use the knives better, and how to operate kitchen machines in the kitchen. 
Learned about Big White in general, what is up at Big White, Entertainment, Lodges, Skating, Gondola lifts etc.  
Co-Worker were awesome. All of them.
The hardest part of the job is doing the line when it get really busy. 
The most enjoyable part of the day is getting set up in the morning, and doing food preparation in afternoon. 
The most best part of the day is getting there early mornings and seeing the beautiful sunrise. :)

Working with Big White was a great experience, like most seasonal jobs I have done. It provided good hours and a competitive wage for my position. Short staffing and a very impersonal approach to many things meant that it becomes tiresome, there is no room for professional development as the higher up positions are very set. Any complaints are not really taken seriously from staff, as they are easily replaced for next year. Overall I learnt many valuable things with my time there but I am more than ready to leave and develop somewhere else with new challenges. The co-workers are what make working in these type of places fantastic but eventually the lack of any career progression is concerning.

Beautiful mountain to live on but minimum wage (under $10/hr after tax is taken) is very very difficult to live on especially when rent (on mountain) at minimum is $700/month, in a shared style with up to 14+ others.
I suggest going with lots and lots and lots of savings, expecting to need to use most, if not all of it to live.

I have loved my time working at Big White Ski Resort. There are always opportunities to keep learning and growing within the ski school. The management all have heaps of experience working in ski school and have all started from the bottom… so they are always able to listen and help as they’ve been in your shoes for about a million seasons too!! It can be quite a fast paced environment during the holidays but that means there is always work if you’re keen to step up to it. I would recommend this ski school 100 times over to anyone interested in working there. Not to mention the awesome snow! 

I moved from Adelaide Australia to see the snow and experience the mountain life. Big White Ski Resort allow you to do exactly that, whilst making enough money to cover your living expenses.

The work vibe at Big White is incredible - the staff, managers, colleagues, customers - everyone is just so pleased and proud to be here!

I would recommend a winter season to anyone to work at Big White Ski Resort to experience the Canadian winter season culture and make lifelong professional and personal relationships.

I came to Big White as a lifty, and then returned as a Ski Patroller, and it is a job I would gladly do year round if the seasons permitted it. The Patrol Dept is some of the finest human beings I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Any criticisms I may have for the resort as a whole come almost exclusively from beyond the Patrol Dept. The work is rewarding, the pay fair, and the benefits charitable. 

It is the best job I've ever had.

Great place to spend your Winter! Got over 900cm of powder during my season there. Working as a lifty means a perfect work/life balance. Tons of riding (especailly on those powder days) and management is fantastic! The mountain in huge and the snow is the best in the world. I would highly recommended Big White to anyone!

There isn't much opportunity to advance in the company.

The work environment is very competitive and the culture is extremely diverse. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Hard work, little recognition and minimal pay.

Over all general maintenance of approx. 200 unites , including townhouses , apartments , hotel rooms with tourists unites ! Staff training , supervision of four employees , hours of operation , including days evenings , with night sifts . Including security , Fire / Safety , open and closing hours of operation , parking with tenants in and outs  ! Emergency services with first aid , plus whmis updates !

Management did not provide ppe that they required, poorly organized, vague job description, poor communication between separate work groups.

Coworkers were welcoming, and helpful with answering any questions.

Cost of living was very high, and cabs to the resort are very expensive ($160). Nothing is open in the village for the first 3 weeks of employment besides the very expensive market which is open Monday-Thursday until 3.
