I generally enjoy it here. I like the people I work with, there are bonuses based on your sales, and they give good hours during the busy season. You can easily earn an extra few hundred bucks from the bonuses. I would say it's a great job for students who like to work minimal hours during school and lots of hours during holidays and summer. It was easy to learn how to work here. Managers encourage and appreciate hard work. They are good at teaching you how to do the job. I feel comfortable with the managers. I like helping women find a bathing suit they feel confident in.
On the negative side though, managers can be lazy. Managers often stand around and chat about personal things and then employees get in trouble for doing the same thing, even though we are the first ones to drop everything and greet customers. The schedule is posted with a good amount of notice, but it's often changed. They are understanding if you can't work a shift they added to the schedule. Communication could use work too, they tend to try to spread information by word of mouth instead of just posting in the group chat so people are sometimes left in the dark. The general manager can be a little problematic, she seems to have a hard time listening to her staff or admitting when she's made a mistake.
Overall, it's a decent job. But it is a job you just do for the money, not because you're overly passionate about selling bikinis or because you adore the management.

Working at Bikini Village in Coquitlam, BC was a positive experience during my first two years, and the store was well-run and successful at that time. However, after new management was introduced, the work environment became increasingly stressful and unprofessional. The changes in leadership had a significant negative impact on team morale, and many experienced staff members eventually left.

Management decisions, particularly at the district level, appeared to prioritize personal relationships over qualified leadership, which affected the overall effectiveness of the store. Scheduling became inconsistent, with unrealistic three-hour shifts that made it difficult for associates to rely on stable hours. Additionally, store policies were not consistently followed, and responsibilities were often delegated inappropriately while management engaged in non-work activities.

There were also concerns regarding professionalism and communication. Staff members were spoken about negatively, and attempts to address issues privately were met with disrespect rather than constructive dialogue. The lack of accountability and proper leadership structure created a toxic environment, which ultimately led me to leave the company.

Management has completely unrealistic expectations from sales right through to the day-to-day. Management puts on a complete facade for head office. The way they pretend the store is run while head office is in, is a complete 180 from how the store is run when they are not in the store. Management contradicts themselves on a daily basis. The manner in which they speak to and gossip about staff is childish and an embarrassment to a company. The management complains about a lack of staffing, it is now evident that this lack of staffing comes from the toxic environment that management creates. The training that was given was basically non-existent and management would proceed to scream about staff not having the knowledge that was not given in the first place. Management will regularly complain about the work that is not being done, yet works a second job and spends no extra time at the store whatsoever. Any feedback is negative and extremely degrading; you never receive anything encouraging. I honestly feel bad for the part-timers who still work for this company as they put in their work only to get beaten down for it. Not fair. I'm glad I left.

Coming in making sure the store looks presentable and merchandising is completed according to company standard. Watching the girls provide excellent customer service from initial interaction to closing the sale. Continues coaching and training on product knowledge. Delegating tasks such as stock, sizing, cleaning duties. I have learned great deal of merchandising skills and how to provide excellent customer service even during difficult situations. 

Management was great to work with and co-workers we never had much issues but rather got along like a family.

The hardest part was meeting up company expectations, there was too much workload on daily basis that prevented us to provide excellent customer service. Too much changing around the store that was very unnecessary during peak seasons.

Most enjoyable was working with my staff, I did not feel I was coming to work but visiting my family. We all had develop a close relationship and I enjoyed coming to my second home

I worked here for 3 years and it just about ruined my life. The first year here was fine but then things started going downhill. You have to be absolutely perfect all the time upper management is always breathing down your neck about sales, conversion, emails. Even in december when its slow because well, its 200$ bikinis in winter. They have so many unnecessary rules and regulations just to have control over you. They let managers go on power trips I was denied time off to visit my sick and dying grandmother I wish i was lying. I was also yelled at by my assitant manager, not talked to, yelled at on the floor in front of my coworkers and customers, for offhandedly commenting that It was so nice outside so its a shame i didnt get the chance to go outside since i was working 1-9. I was also reprimanded for calling in sick when I had not taken any sick time the wholeyear. There is bonuses but they come at the price of a competitive work environment as they depend on how much sales you get. The entire head office is french and arent the nicest if you have trouble understanding them. If you want to work retail DO NOT WORK HERE. As well they cut hours frequently so you cannot depend on a steady pay from this company. 

I would not recommend this job to anyone but my worst enemy. It is dull and very slow even during the start of the busier seasons. The set up of the store makes it very easy to forget about certain suits as it is changed almost three times a week which makes it very hard to locate items for customers and be 100% helpful. Management is terrible, they will punish you on the schedule (work only the shifts no one wants and give you very little hours) for small mistakes that were only made due to inconsistent/fluctuating rules. Will not own up to their own mistakes even when you have been scolded for them and the current manager uses very insensitive language and makes tasteless jokes. I feel LGBTQ workers would be extremely uncomfortable working with this manager as they will poke fun at and disrespect openly LGBTQ customers after they leave the store. Co-workers do not stand up for each other, they tend to tell on each other for small things instead. If you are looking for a fun job, with good pay, hours and a supportive staff go anywhere but here. I'm not kidding don't hand in a resume, don't apply don't even shop here.

After I was recruited to join the BV team I was so excited to work there. Little did I know that I was going to work in a store that doesn’t have a manager. It was absolute chaos the entire time I worked there. The temporary manager and assistant manager are basically dictators and there is no room for you to address your issues. One of them told me that “ I’m not allowed to think badly or have an issue with management”, which I found completely ridiculous as everyone is supposed to work together as a team and should have the right to have a voice. At least 10 people quit or stopped showing up to work due to management within a month and a half. I’m surprised that they haven’t realized that the managers  haven’t noticed a pattern and that they’re the problem. A day of work is usually getting shifted an 8 hour shift then them asking you to clean the bathroom and then leave after an hour. Working here has been the worst time of my life and I hope no one has to go through this.

Bikini Village Barrie (Store 558) was by far the best place I’ve ever worked. The atmosphere, team, and management truly made it feel like a second home. Everyone supported one another like family, and I never once experienced or witnessed any form of racism, we all worked together as one team.
Management was incredibly understanding and supportive, even during slower retail periods or challenging sales days. Instead of pressure, we were met with encouragement, kindness, and small gestures that showed genuine care. I’ve never been part of a team that lifted each other up the way this one did.
I only left because I graduated and moved back home, but I still keep in touch and visit whenever I’m in the area. I couldn’t recommend joining this team more, the positivity, warmth, and support are truly unmatched.

It was a fairly easy job and a decent, enjoyable work experience for the most part. They made you do a store merchandise flip almost every month and that task fell onto the management team who had a strict deadline on the store flips while also being expected to meet sales goals. Upper management was very flakey and non transparent when inquiring on opportunities for advancement and were out of touch with the reality of being on a sales floor and interacting with customers. On more then one occasion upper management would strong arm client interactions in an attempt to “train” store employee only for clients to express how uncomfortable they were with upper management. If you want fairly easy work I would recommend but be wary of upper management.

What I have learned at Bikini Village is how to interact with customers everyday comfortably, as well achieving the daily sales objective.  I learnt how to do cash transactions, as well as returns and exchanges.  I have learnt how to act as manager while the manager is absent, as well as opening and closing the store.  Selling swimsuits to customers is not always the easiest thing to do because it is sensitive to some, so you have to make sure they have a positive experience and try and get them out of that negative mindset.  The most enjoyable part of the job is when someone finds a swimsuit that they are comfortable in and they actually like it.  I the hardest part about the job is when someone comes in with a negative mindset, changing around their mindset is not necessarily the easiest thing to do.
