Working within the Birchwood Automotive Group provided me with the tools for both personal and career path growth. Being part of such large and diverse organization  gave me the opportunity to network with my fellow peers, and management throughout further developing my skill set.

They re-enforced the key values and philosophy that should be incorporated in all business models for their success.

As a manger is was my daily responsibility, not to manage my team, but rather an engaged leader, teacher, and coach, being transparent, with the business vision, goals and overall performance. Management has always encouraged to work on the business versus in the business. I was also responsible for maintaining the proper inventory levels and meeting the measurable metrics set forth by the director of operations.

The most difficult role was getting buy in from select employees that did not fit the culture and direction that the organization was headed. But the most rewarding parts was the celebration of the "Wins" and the sense of team/family environment within the entire organization.

I thoroughly enjoyed the training and mentor ship that was provided to myself in the during my employment

I worked for Birchwood in car sales for 3.5 years with the same dealership. I previously worked for another dealership and group prior for about 10 months and left due to dirty dealership practices. Working for Birchwood Toyota  was the complete opposite. Most of the stores in the group were honest, holistic, and put customer needs at high standard. They took care of their customers from the sale of the vehicle all the way to the service and parts side. The expectation was above and beyond customer service which was great as the stigma for the automotive industry is usually that we are sleazy. Birchwood provided paid benefits to all staff, Birchwood bucks which was a great company appreciation event, lavish holiday parties, and a turkey every year for Christmas. There was lots of money invested in training and development from Birchwood and Toyota Canada. We have a great management group that really cared for their staff and worked hard to help us grow. Get with the right team and dealership and it’s a great career. 

Birchwood Automotive Group Prides itself as one of the top employers in manitoba, but in reality its a typical Bad corporate culture. If your work is not “office” in environment they think you are insignificant and easily replaceable.


Pay was horrible, $4 below the average Detailer. They don’t give raises and instead tell you a bunch of lies and pretty words. Management is really bad. First, they don’t know how their facility operates and just cares about the numbers. Unrealistic expectations that even they, have no clue how to achieve. Second, they are a bunch of hypocrites that doesn’t follow their own rules. Makes you work every minute while they play with a dog in their office. They enforce masks to everyone but doesn’t wear one, at least properly. And Lastly they don’t care about your life and have poor people skills when It comes to dealing with the New Pandemic Obligations. 


Worked here for a year, did not receive any raise but expects you to work harder. Management has favoritism, only cares about the “high skilled” workers and thinks lowly of entry level positions and roles.

During my period at Birchwood Nissan I had the privilege of working with a diverse group of people. With the help of coworkers, I learnt skills in customer relations, sales, management, work ethic, time management, business relations, product inventory as well as an overall increase in soft skills including speech clarity, organization, small talk, positive reinforcement and leadership. The hardest part of the job was meeting the deadlines for customer deliveries, which was overall a communication problem which dramatically improved over the course of my employment. The job was great for learning the nature and intricacy of the automobile industry and it is a job that has taught me knowledge about sales and vehicles that will follow me through my life.

Just like a typical car dealership; they pay flat rate so you’re constantly rushed while being underpaid, they claim to have the most ‘up to date’ equipment but we don’t even own a washing machine to wash our rags with (not including the fact that they still use newspaper to clean windows).

Management doesn’t even inspect the customers car before giving them an estimate of completion, whether the car is brand new or the filthiest we’ve ever seen they still seem to say ‘we’ll pay you about an hour for this one.’

Coworkers hate each other, it’s a constant race to see who can get the most jobs while making each other feel like they aren’t good enough hoping they’ll quit before they take more work away from us.

Overall a horrible place to work if you have any sort of standards for yourself or your profession.

Overall, I kinda enjoyed being at work because of mainly being able to drive all the new vehicles and was able to learn how to drive manual transmission. Made some good friends there too but ultimately, the management was a mess and at my position, along with my other coworkers working the same one, didn't feel much appreciated and would feel as if they would ask us to do personal tasks or just tedious and annoying tasks that they were originally supposed to do. Some of the sales people would get spoiled and would often ask us to find a vehicle for them telling us that they've looked around the lot already and when we would head out to find it, it would be at the front of the building or just a 10-20 second walk from where their office was. 

They will offer you the world to get you in the door after 2 weeks you'll realise it was all lies. The hours they force you to work are ridiculous. The wages they promise are very very exaggerated. They will tell you between 150-180 thousand a year and it's a flat out lie. There's no way anyone in sales makes that much money on their pay plans and if you do okay for a year they will fix that in February when they force you to sign a new contract. They also make you sign away any stat pay in your orientation package. Every year they decrease your wages not increase them. Management is a joke. FREE FOOD IS NOT A PERK! SALES PEOPLE WANT MONEY NOT CHEAP GREASY FOOD.

They will tell you exactly what you want to hear and try to make all of these promises but it’s all lies. They’ll be nice for the first week then it’s pretty much a popularity contest. Such a high school environment, obviously the managers there peaked in high school. They will literally hire anyone cause they are so desperate cause so many people quit. They barely give proper training then just let you go with no explanation. The managers there are a bunch of bullies. They don’t care about people’s mental health and treat you like you are stupid. They say they are such a diverse company but yet don’t accept people who are different than them. Stay away from this place as much as much as you can. 

From a management perspective, the company demands and expects a very high-level of commitment and dedication to the job. Daunting for some, but the companies risen to the size where ownership's "people first" mentality just isn't the case anymore. Optics and reputation outside the group in the community as well as market share and profitability has consumed it. Don't get me wrong, this is what business's are around for but personally feel the attempts to be "people first" while displaying the opposite from the top down is disingenuous. If your looking for a company that "has your back" perhaps search elsewhere.

Managed and arranged vehicles on property lot, vehicle compound and inside showroom. Constantly learned new techniques and the use of different air-pressure/power/hand tools, cleaning devices/products for detailing brand new vehicles and reconditioning used vehicles. Learned how to operate gas powered snow blower. Management and workplace was amazing. Enjoyed being able to drive brand new vehicles. Awesome job, the only hard part was having to shovel and clear snow/ice off the property and off of each vehicle and during winter time.
