What is the best part of working at the company?
It’s a job if you need one short term. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Taking orders from unqualified foreman who are only in their position because they are related to a boss. Poorly organized, no tools to do your job, they can’t figure out the proper sequence to do the work so you end up doing the exact same job 3 times over. Take shortcuts to save time which keep coming back to haunt you in later job steps. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
They talk big about safety and how everyone is a family but if you are not actually related to someone (or a certain nationality) as most of everyone else is, then they won’t even talk to you. In the meetings they act like they care and encourage people to speak up about their concerns in front of the client but when you do, you are belittled and told not to “blow things out of proportion” just because you asked what they plan to do about the dangerous occurrence that happened. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Working with unqualified people because they are someone’s nephew and now they are running excavators their first week on site when they don’t have ANY previous construction experience on any job sites.

Bird was my first employer just starting out in construction and man was I thrown to the wolves, management don't have any interest in properly training people and instead use yelling and threats as methods to keep you in line. I went into work everyday on time and always tried my best to do a good job but I was constantly reprimanded and bullied by management.

All the higher up people / supers are miserable old guys for the most part and they spent more time sitting outside their trailer smoking or sitting in a AC truck then doing any real work, extreme favoritism is a thing as the only other workers they treated with respect and did not yell at were the bag lickers that bent over for them 

This company has a terrible old school culture, bring in some younger people into management and treat your workers better.



Overall, Bird Construction is a great place for professionals looking to build a solid foundation in the construction industry. I’m grateful for the experience and the people I worked with, and I would highly recommend Bird to anyone looking for a reputable and forward-thinking construction company.

However all the above said depends upon the team and the project you work with. Few of the Project Managers and Construction managers that I've worked with are not a great fit for their role. And they don't take responsibility of their mistakes made and blame their team members infront of subcontractors and Company operations team.  Be prepared for heavy work load and handle stressful time while you are there. The managers that I've worked with are not competent to delegate tasks accordingly. Instead you get dumped with a ton of work, while your manager gets to leave early and show up late to work quite often. 

A typical day consisted of reviewing supplier and subcontractor invoices, applying appropriate codes, and entering them into Viewpoint software. I would also submit invoices to clients, and track their status via phone or email. 

I learned basic accounts payable and receivable duties, creating subcontracts, and organizational skills. 

Upper management was always very friendly and supporting. Direct management was helpful and accommodating. 

The co-workers were very friendly and always willing to help if needed.

The hardest part of the job was balancing multiple Project Managers and construction projects. 

The most enjoyable part was my co-workers. They were very friendly and were always organizing lunch activities such as baseball or BBQ lunches.

Good communication, willing to train workers, family oriented. Enjoyed my time with BIRD CONSTRUCTION

Shortage of workers at times. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very cultural oriented, concerned with the well-being of any individual, willing to assist individual with mentoring programs.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
60% in the field, collaboration with the workers, management meeting throughout the day, office works with documentation entrees, maintain communication.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Decent wages and Benifits ….. I had to take time off due to a family emergency and my superintendent made sure I got a flight home immediately. Great safety culture and good supervision. All around a good experience. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
As the job was at a remote location being away from family. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Treated with respect. Bird had a great safety program. Safety was as important as productivity. Was encouraged to do quality, and safe work. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Steady well organized work. Always had more than enough staff on hand to properly and safely complete task.

In my 9 years with Bird, I was treated with respect. I did find that they did care about their employees to an extent. The job work/ life balance was not at it's best. The benefits were standard, there was room for advancement when the times were good. Safety was not at its premium but they were working on it. Bird was finally taking the "thinking out of the box" approach when it comes to different styles of construction. I do hope the best for them in these trying times.

Would not recommend working for this company if you're a woman. They'll make you feel uncomfortable enough to either quit or they'll lay you off when you reject the management. I was 20 when I started working for this company so I wasn't aware of the disrespect you might experience with a company like this. I rejected the general foreman and was laid off within a week. The management is all a boys club with weird site politics going on all the time. How good you are at your job does not matter here. The only thing that matters is if the GF or super likes you or not. The most ridiculous company I've ever worked for.

This company hires people just to lay them off. You will almost always get laid off at the end of the project even tho there is tons of work they just hire people for a project lay them off then hire again for the new project instead of just transferring people they already hired to the new job. If the foreman does not like you regardless of how good at your job you are you will be first to get laid off. You will only ever get promoted to foreman if you're friends with the general foreman. They have a lot of not good formwork carpenters whose largest concrete structure they've ever built is a foundation of a house.
