This company is just amazing honestly they have a lovely system setup to provide many dedicated runs and they do anything possible to bring you back home on promised days, pta/eta is just a wonderful system so when you leave for  an destination you enter estimated time of arrival (ETA) & PTA is for when is the possible time of availability which means you will have a load assigned hours ahead before your ready to begin your trip, and a great thing about that it's all available online on your phone app you can see where your picking up from and where you are delivering to for some advanced homework & preparing , along with many other options to browse for such as pay rate, more job opportunities, your performance, pre plans, book time off, etc-etc , this company is dedicated  to provide consistent  miles  and for those whom are company drivers they offer phenomenal units equipped with parksmart system which will keep you warm in winter and cool in hot temperatures, I have worked for several  false promising companies in the past but here in bison its all worth it .another very hellful program they offer, is called ( RIGHT TO DECIDE) for instance ; if you are not feeling safe to drive wether you are fatigued , sick or feel unsafe to continue due to harsh weather  conditions they want you to just pull over to an safe spot and inform dispatch that you are using right to decide and only continue when safe to do so , NOBODY will push you to drive it's your call ,you feel supported instead of being enforced , it also pays well to deliver at customers and to pickup from customers aswell , bc/ab night driving premium , they earn you a dollar a mile or more if your an owner opp and if company driver on average drivers are earning 55 to 60 cents a miles but it can only happen if you choose to come on board and give bison a chance " I just love it here " they treat there drivers with tremendous amount of respect and care , I hope to never leave this company. I worked as a CSR Bison Transport, and my experience was less than favorable. One of the most significant issues I faced was the lack of work-life balance. As a CSR, I was constantly worried about my shipments arriving late. If a shipment was delayed, I had the painful task of notifying the client that their shipment was late and that they would have to pay hefty penalties to the consignee. This resulted in a great deal of stress, worry, and anxiety for me. The constant stress from this responsibility was exacerbated by the low salary. As a CSR at Bison Transport, my salary compensation versus the amount of work and stress I endured did not compensate for the offensively low salary. 

Another significant issue at Bison Transport was the management's favoritism. It was disheartening to see employees who would go to great lengths to please the managers, often at the expense of their colleagues. This culture of favoritism made it difficult to feel valued and recognized for my hard work.

Despite the negatives, there were a few positive experiences during my time at Bison Transport. I learned how to prioritize my emails effectively, as I was managing at least 150 to 200 emails per day. This skill has been invaluable in my professional development. Additionally, the challenging work environment taught me to prioritize and advocate for myself. Standing up for myself in a culture of favoritism was a crucial lesson that I will carry forward in my career.

Lastly, Bison Transport provided me with my first experience in the logistics industry. While it wasn't an ideal start, it was a start nonetheless, and for that, I am grateful. In conclusion, my experience at Bison Transport was marred by a lack of work-life balance, low salary, and a culture of favoritism. While there were some positive takeaways, they were overshadowed by the significant stress and financial strain I endured. I would caution anyone considering a position at Bison Transport to weigh these factors carefully.

I don't typically write such reviews but I feel obligated to tell the public about Bison Transport. Bison has the single most unprofessional office space I have ever worked in during my last decade as a dispatcher in transportation. Mix that with the highest rate of turnover I have ever witnessed and that gives you a pretty good idea of what working at Bison Mississauga office is like. In my time there I saw so many people come and go because their training is atrocious and their expectations are simply put unrealistic. They constantly accept an impossible number of customers with more orders than they know how to juggle which further adds to their rate of turnover particularly in their cs department. Working there you will experience a shameless amount of politics. Supervisors and managers alike will maintain a heavy – I’d even say excessive amount of micromanagement with employees they are neutral toward or don't care for while playing favorites with those who are friends outside of work. I mean they’ll time you on how long you take to make coffee and bring it up during performance reviews with a straight face while their friends can show up 30 mins late regularly and laugh it up with them– I’m not making this up. These people run their office environment like a high school and yet these supervisors and managers are in their 40s and 50s. If you plan to apply here and take the job do so at your own expense and think twice about why Bison is constantly hiring. Probably a good sign that they don’t know how to retain their employees.

Immediately after receiving my AZ license, I applied for Bison with their New Driver Program. I was called back within a couple of days to set up a road test and was hired on immediately after the test.

I then began the orientation and training course which lasted about 8-10 weeks; covering in-class training, basic skills, city work and highway trips. (All paid with weekly salary)

After completing the program, I was given an assigned truck of my own, 2020 Freightliner Cascade, with less than 200k on it.

I’ve now been driving as a long haul driver with Bison for over 6 months and enjoy working for the company.

Pros for working for Bison:
- Excellent new driver program for drivers with no experience
- Not forced by dispatch
- Easy to communicate for any delays, ie weather, breakdown, tired, etc (never forced)
- Newer trucks with excellent equipment inside, ie, satellite radio, radar sensor, etc
- Great benefits
- On site maintenance team
- Good wage, I’m already on pace to earn over $60k in my first year

Cons for working for Bison:
- Trucks are limited to 100 km/h
- Spend 21-24 days on the road, would be difficult for drivers with family

I guess at this stage, I don’t really have much negative things to say about Bison, but would highly recommend to new drivers who have no experience in the industry to start here.

Most new drivers are worried about getting in to this industry due to negative image such as forced dispatch, low wage, extremely long hours, etc, but rest assured this company won’t push you to the limit and will put your safety ahead of anything else.


The dispatch is your best friend but understand they have potential 50 other drivers out that day/week on their roster calling for all sorts of things. The company’s biggest issues, they got greedy bought up American companies and maybe it hard to get miles if you’re not on a dedicated run. Dispatch seems to do their best to keep you informed but their job is still to get you moving or keep you put and calm so don’t be surprised if you catching them in a lie, it’s not their fault usually that sometimes went wrong. Biggest issue for me was the “planners” mysterious people in the office you never met; you can literally talk to anyone in the office but they will never tell you who or where the planners sit. The planners are the second biggest problem as they don’t have to talk to drivers, your middle man to them is dispatch and it’s often broken telephone on when you’ll get another plan or details on the delivery or pickup location. They also governor all their trucks and have real time trackers so if you think you’ll get somewhere early, you won’t. They’ll also penalize you if you allow your truck to coast down a slight hill that gets it over 102km for more than 30 seconds, they have all sorts of incentives to not pay you for safety standards that they know slows you down and makes it hard to achieve a descent mileage without a dedicated plan. 

I’ve had the pleasure of being a Bison employee for just under a year.  I came to Bison looking for a better work culture and I had heard great things about Bison from friends who worked there.  I had multiple interviews with a total of four different leaders and as a result of those interviews I was able to get a good idea about what the company would be like.  They didn’t just interview me but allowed me to interview them in return.  In the 11 months that I’ve worked here, I’ve worked as a Customer Service Assistant, Customer Service Representative, Calgary City Fleet Manager and now I’m a Customer Service Team Lead.  I’ve been given so many opportunities to learn & grow both in my home office of Calgary but also working remotely with the Mississauga office.  In every department & area I’ve worked in, the leaders and managers have made a point of ensuring I’m provided with the support I need to learn & do my job effectively and are fair & transparent in all of their interactions with me and the rest of the team.  They do not ask something of you that they cannot do themselves, which is a unique quality that not many businesses can claim.  Over the course of these past 11 months, I have regained the ability to enjoy coming to work again.

As an Operations student, the position is very flexible with many opportunities to self-direct your work. Throughout the summer I will rotate throughout all the departments in the office and complete project based work. 
The on-boarding and training processes are well designed with continuous support throughout the first few weeks.
The official position length is 4 months long, and pending the term's success, there are possibilities for extension or full-time employment. 
Current hours during training are set, but once training is complete, hours are flexible to accommodate your needs.
The success of the student program is evident. Many of the full-time employees in the office were previous summer students. 
There are no benefits included in this position. However, the hourly salary is very competitive, and in my experience, higher than other advertised student positions in the Fraser Valley. 
The environment is fast-paced, and requires developed multi-tasking abilities.
All employees that I have encountered are very friendly and have expressed their willingness to assist me during my training period.

This is a great company to start your driving career with. Their driver finishing program has you doing all the driving, none of this team driving BS that I read about with other companies. While you are with your trainer you do 100% of the driving while they sit in the passenger seat giving tips and advice as needed. Very helpful if like me your second trip southbound has you going into Los Angeles and construction has blocked off your preplanned route. Having somebody there to navigate was extremely helpful lol.

If you have a FAST card, you can pick your southbound loads off the internal load board so if you don’t like going to California, for example, simply take a load going literally anywhere else in the US.

It has the same problems that any trucking company does like delays at shippers etc. but none of these are Bison specific. there’s the classic “it’s a mega so you’re just a number” but because of the way the company is split into many mini fleets you will develop a relationship with your Dispatch team and only have that cog in a machine feel when talking to another department like customs or safety  The only problem I have is that they don’t do open deck or tanker so you’ll have to find a different company if that’s your intended career path

Pencil pusher heavy simply means there are more people making decisions then there needs to be, they are so overstaffed with people looking around to justify why they are even their. Your dispatcher cannot make a decision without talking to his boss. And so it goes. 

PROS: Paid every Friday. 
Free BBQ's in the summer.

CONS: Free BBQs in the summer only. Unhealthy food.
Slow trucks.
Paid weekly & very weakly.
Computers in the trucks telling the office that your a high-risk driver even though I have 6 years safe driving awards from Bison not to mention other companies I have worked for. 
Before you leave on a trip, after your pre-trip you need to reply to no less the 3 to 8 satellite messages. Oh and don't forget if your trailer is equipped with air deflectors on the back, open them up.
If you are in your own assigned unit, don't leave anything of value when you're at home doing your reset, they will use your truck and there are thieves and barn animals that will drive your unit when you are not.

BOTTOM LINE from where I sit, Bison would be a good driving career if they didn't rely so heavily on technology that they think is making them one of the safest fleets on the highway. Ever notice the "YOUR SAFE WITH ME" campaign is long gone, wonder why. 🤔

Good place to gain transportation industry experience

Working at this transportation company was a valuable experience overall. The job environment is fast-paced, which helps you develop strong problem-solving and communication skills. The management team generally expects employees to be responsible and able to handle pressure, especially when dealing with shipment schedules, drivers, and customer needs. If you are someone who enjoys a busy work environment and learning about logistics operations, this can be a good place to grow.

One of the positives is the opportunity to learn different aspects of the transportation industry. You interact with drivers, customers, and dispatch teams regularly, which gives you a better understanding of how freight operations work. Some days can be stressful due to tight deadlines or unexpected delays, but that is common in the logistics field.

The team atmosphere can be supportive when everyone is working toward the same goal of moving freight efficiently. Overall, it is a decent workplace for people who want to gain experience in transportation, improve their multitasking abilities, and build knowledge in logistics and supply chain operations.
