Blacks Photography

A day working at blacks is pretty easy going, but can get a bit crazy at times. As a sales associate i was responsible for providing knowledge to the customers about our product and working around their budget to fit their needs. Every week there was a margin goal that we had to make, meaning every employee had to make a certain amount of money for the store every week. At times this was challenging but a good attitude, and providing great customer service really helps! While working at blacks i found that the management and the employees were all easy going and very supportive, we got along great. For me, the hardest part of the job was making the margin goal, but at the same time it was the most enjoyable part of the job. We had to work really hard and sell a lot to make our goal but in the end it was rewarding to know what a great job we have done.

Working at Black's was a great experience. The customers were generally very kind and respectful, with even a few regulars. This created a great opportunity for customer service to be applied, and a more personable work environment for not only customers but employees as well. I gained a lot of knowledge on the products the store carried, and increased some technical skills as well. Learning about all the new equipment was the most difficult part of the job, as cameras are very extensive and detailed. With motivation and time I gained a solid knowledge on all products and was able to give customers all the information they were seeking. Management and co-workers were fantastic, and the culture was mature and respectful. I enjoyed all aspects of the job working at Black's.

Working at blacks we would need to help costumers with the photo printing computers, print photos in the lab, ship and receive products, handle cash, and sell products while keeping the store stalked and tidy. I learned techniques to sell products, I learned a lot about the services blacks offered, I also gained more costumer service skills. I found the management wasn't the greatest, and I felt I couldn't trust my manager. I worked well with my co-workes and I had a good time working with them and learning from them. The hardest part of the job for me was up-selling products in the store and I was placed into the job so quick. I really enjoyed helping customers with their pictures and giving them my professional opinion to help them.

I have worked for Blacks for about 8 years in 3 different stores.
The manager in the store where I currently work is an exceptionally
good manager and I work with a great team. We have a lot of really good long term customers. Those are the reasons I have stayed with
Blacks for the last 3 years. I am a loyal employee.

My difficulties with the company are that hours have been cut back
drastically and I can no longer make a living wage. I average only two
or three shifts a week totaling only about 10-12 hours/week.
There is a great deal expected of us for a very low rate of pay.

Although their retail locations no longer exist, I thoroughly enjoyed my time working for Blacks Photography. My managers and coworkers were extremely professional and fun to work with. I learned a lot about photography and digital editing as well as photo-restoration. My only complaint in working for the company was that the higher ups proved to be disloyal and unappreciative towards their retail staff and made little effort to communicate with us on a regular basis. Such is often the case with a large and expansive company, particularly after it was purchased by Telus.

as we shared information with customers and each other
There was not really a hard part. But most enjoyable was sharing with customers their stories

The company always made sure the staff had current knowledge on the new devices and tech. Gold Star program introduced to make staff aware when they didn't reach sales target. Customer satisfaction and sevice was maintained daily.

this was the best job ive ever had, i enjoyed working with all my co workers. and management was great. though the stores are now closed, we are still very close. im sad that i can no longer work with them every day. and its been hard to find a job that lives up to it.

The company did a good job of cultivating a team environment. Individual store management was well groomed and understood the importance of their employees. Unfortunately every phone has a camera now and they are no longer in business

Black's is no longer in this area but it was a great job to have. I learned a lot working there, retail sales, providing excellent customer service experience was the main thing I learned from my time there.
