During my tenure with the company, there's a great deal that works and a few things that could use improvement.

The things I did really like or enjoy about the company are the following:
They do offer a Monday to Friday, 7 am to 3 pm work schedule for all employees (including drivers).  The intent is to allow employees some type of work/life balance and regular hours.  
All employees are on salary, and receive benefits after 3 months and RRSP's after 2 years.
Most employees were great to deal with, especially due to the knowledge of the business.
They do try to offer other benefits to employees to make up for the level of pay and benefits - such as Kombucha on tap, free soap/laundry detergent to take home, dart boards and Foozball table and treadmill, the occasional breakfast meeting (1-2 times per year?)
Certified B Corp - trying to attract individuals who are concerned about the type of social governance and impact the company makes.  They try hard to be a good corporate neighbour, and pick a charity every year to donate to.    
Young management and ownership team, which is a blessing and a curse at the same time

The hardest part of the job was having to deal with the lack of organization of certain functions, and the lack of knowledge of their management team on how to properly set things up.  They are in need of better organizing, which will assist in improving current state of the company and setting them up for future success.
Another difficulty was other department's employees doing my tasks without my knowledge, doing it incorrectly which then required me to fix it - this created a lot more work and a great deal of frustration.
The direct report-to management were not present in the office on a consistent/regular basis, and were inexperienced in Accounting/Payroll.  It was challenging enough to politely point out some things that could use improvement, but nothing was implemented nor did I receive the support I needed in order to implement anything.


Working with Bluplanet Recycling has been great, I have been able to move through a few different positions within the company and can honestly say I do not dread going to work anymore. The team here is friendly and supportive, and management is very flexible and supportive as well. The senior staff are all very open to suggestions and opinions from employees, and are always taken into serious consideration.

The equipment given to us is new, and/or well maintained, any complaints I've had are always dealt with seriously and in a timely manner. The management here really does make a strong effort to help you with any issues or questions you have.

Anything you need to get your job done is supplied, water bottle, thermos, reflective hoodies, shorts, pants, gloves, hats, and a boot credit every year.

There are many events and social get-togethers throughout the year, as well as a nice christmas bonus too.

Driving on a route is nice compared to other competitors, as we only deal with plastic collection bins, so they are much lighter to move around.

The schedule is also nice as its reliable. All vacation days are worked except for christmas day, but you can take your banked vacation hours anytime you need to, they total up to around 19 days off paid/year.

Highly recommend people give it try, they usually do working interviews for drivers, so you can see how you like it.

I started with BluPlanet Recycling in a part time role that was meant to be a short employment term as I looked for my career role in the market.  I ended up staying because the team environment and corporate culture here were fantastic.  I honestly loved getting up to go to work and be part of a team where your opinions were honestly appreciated and taken into consideration. 

The management style is great, no one micro-manages you but instead they coach you and allow you to excel in your roles without constant worry of someone looking over your shoulder.  They trust their employees to do their best work for the company.  

This company is very different from other waste hauling companies.  Everyone works Monday to Friday, and really reasonable hours.  BluPlanet ensures that they have the highest level of customer service of any provider out there.  While there is no overtime offered, this is a positive aspect of the company as it allows everyone to enjoy their home life and families and maintain an excellent work/life balance.

The workplace culture here is very positive, nobody is a dictator and they go out of their way to make everyone's voice feel heard. Salary of 40 hours 7 am- 3 pm 5 days a week. Due to the routine, the days go by fast and the weekends faster. The Very little social gap between management and staff on the field, whether this being due to the fact that the number of employees is still relatively small banging at around 18, I don't know. If you show you are competent and driven enough, they MAY offer to upgrade your license on their dime. Company excursions and team building events are common in a calendar year as well. Sacrificing lower pay than typical industry standards in exchange for a very positive work environment that actually keeps care of their vehicles makes it worth it in my opinion.

This company is a relatively young, but rapidly growing company in the recycling industry. I have started as a route collection driver and got promoted to take care of entire routes, programs' set-up and improvement after a few years of dedication. I have worked for this incredibly fun company for about 5 years and have enjoyed the entire period with them.

Your contribution gets evaluated fairly and properly every 6 months to 12 months. So you can get promoted accordingly.

I highly recommend this company for the next chapter of your life.

The company is growing strong but the managements lack of knowledge slows the company down. Management is quick to micro manage the drivers but they don’t have any experience running a company.  To much politics with management hiring family and workers from there church.  Promisses after promisses and nothing ever comes out of it.  The salary is not the industry leading as they rave about. Newer equipment decent work hrs but working low pay salary with pay the 15th and 30th don’t help out and working every holiday don’t make them the wage leaders.  Management is the biggest problem.  Lack of knowledge and industry info.  They make you do reviews 2 times a yr but only give you a raise at end of the hear.  They don’t try to change anything you bring to them in the reviews about the problem with management. To young if a company.

I worked at BluPlanet for 10 months as a Driver Assistant and I will say that I enjoyed the job for the most part. Working in extreme weather can be daunting but that’s an expectation with year round work outside.

The work life balance with the job was phenomenal leaving me plenty of time to do things with my day other than work.

Co-workers and management were all friendly and easy to work with, booking time off was also fairly painless.

The only gripes I have had with the company would be that the pay was on the lower end compared to other companies, management however had mentioned before I left that pay structure was indeed being looked at for the new year. There also was not a clear line of career progression for the Drivers Assistant role, this however was also addressed as an area of the improvement that the company is looking into.

Good company atmosphere, Great people to work with and great home life oriented hours. Any extra bad days will usually be compensated accordingly. They give you opportunities to grow beyond your current station if that is what you want. 

You don't make as much money as others in the industry but it comes out on top when you account for benefits/work life balance and the people you work with. If there are any idiots they are usually fired pretty fast which is nice.

Forewarning this company often requires you to actually care about your job and requires a certain work ethic

BluPlanet offers a positive place of work alongside team members who care, are accountable, value safety, and foster a collaborative culture. Their open-door policy is great for face-to-face interaction and problem resolution. The organization is a living wage leader and values sustainability related to the environment, socially, and finacially. The main difference of working at BluPlanet is the work-life balance. While you are expected to work hard and complete tasks on-time, this is not expected at the expense of your personal life, family, and hobbies.

Low pay & penny pinchers on OT.  
They don’t meet industry wage standards, unrealistic route time expectations which creates high driver turnover thus creating increased risk of accidents. They let drivers go before there 2 week notice is up so they don’t have to pay stat pat. When I started it was a good work environment, but after losing certain office personnel the all over morale has gone steadily downhill. 
The company keeps expanding biting off more than what they can chew.
