Boilermakers local 146

As a former member of Local 146,with a younger brother still working in the local,I have enjoyed many good years employed with the Boilermakers.Competative wages,benefits,and pension plan were attractions when I did work with the Boilermakers,but alas I was offered a job with a client,due in no small way to exposure I recieved as a result of my work at their site with the Boilermakers in various roles.I would gladly accept employment with the brotherhood if they required my skills.I apprenticed with 146,worked as journeyman welder with rigging and fitting skills, job steward,then as foreman and would gladly do it again.

A typical day would involve safety /task assignment meeting first,then tool assessment,crew delegation,ensuring safety requirements,and finally getting production underway.Knowing my coworkers are a mixture of seasoned veterans,anxious apprentices and reliable supervision,( even if they are a little crusty) fills me with a comforting feeling that quality work will be performed at an attractive pace for the client.
For me the hardest part is putting the tools away and cleanup as invariably the team is hitting their stride.and making measurable progress.

Going home safely,after a closeout/headcount meeting,tells me we will be able to report to a good job the next day as well.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Union Hall. 
But enjoyed the work I preformed while working with the different Companies out west in Alberta. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Never stressed, loved the job.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Worked for many companies under Boilermakers 146. Working with hundreds of different personalities tends to make every job different 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Meetings with GF and any other meetings planned. Pull permits, allocate duties to crew.  Assist with info on setup for the job. Do paperwork, troubleshooting when required.  Safety, Safety, Safety

A typical day at work would include welding, grinding, gouging, working with many different trades, reading blueprints, participating in daily FLRA and toolbox meetings, etc. I learned that out in the field safety is priority #1. Nothing is every done without some sort of safety protocol in place before the work begins. Fellow co workers were great, good camaraderie with belonging to the boilermakers. The hardest part of this job would be working with the extreme temperatures as you are outside. The most enjoyable part is having a pay day every week! Every Friday was pay day and the pay was awesome!!!!

What I love most about the job is the focus on safety.The job starts with a 2 week safety training, work smart program. A day at work starts with a safety meeting. We Work with a great team, looking out for one another. There is lots to learn and different tasks depending on the day. You could be grinding/cutting one day or doing bolt up or torquing. Then come in the next day climb an 80 foot tower/ vessel inspecting and changing out damaged or worn out hardware maybe some rigging too, the fun never stops.....

Long hot dirty work , sometimes boring , low risk  , sometimes short of tools , sometimes not the correct tools . The hardest part of this work is putting up with different attitudes and perceptions of other workers , many are trying to climb the "ladder" and make things difficult .  We work with people from other cultures and areas around the world . It has been fun , met some really great people .  

This organization was established in 1880.  Having to have worked with many different corporation, every corporation has a different culture.  The job experience was excellent and I got to work with people from all countries and origins.   Working in a refinery and complying to rules and regulations is a must and I have enjoyed every moment.

There is no typical day at work. It’s heavy industry so you must be fit pass the drug and alcohol test. You can be a rigger you can be a fitter or you can be a welder. Lots of room for advancement, depending on motivation and training and education. Members are great to work with great pension.

i have always had work good fellowship with other members life time friendships. alot of out of town work but you make good money with the overtime lots of room for advancement for the right person if you like that and apply yourself  good education upgrades free.

Typical day at work was morning tool box talk to review safety observations of the previous shift, bring up concerns, assign tasks to the crew.  Hand out permits and do the FLHA. Set up of jobs and than commence work, near the end of the shift take time to clean up work area and safe out equipment. It’s a very safety conscious environment.

A typical day could be varied in that you can be working on heat exchangers or fabricating oilfield equipment 
it is a great place to work and the people there are a amazing bunch of guys 
the management is always there to help when you have a problem and if you need training
