Boiling Point

My duty included cooking and serving meals. Sometimes I had to prepare more than 8 meals at once and thus I had to find a most effective way to prepare the meal, and had to be punctual at the same time. I had also learned how to handle customer complaints - how to comfort the customers without violating the policy.

The working environment was great. People, including coworkers and managers, were friendly. I really enjoyed working with them and getting to meet new people everyday. The only thing I found challenging was the working hours. Sometimes I got off work after 12 to 1 AM, which gave me hard time staying focused at school the next day.

I enjoyed my shifts when certain coworkers were there and some have become long-time friends, but I had just as many experiences of supervisors going on power trips forcing employees they didn't like to get on the floor to clean when there were customers needing assistance, people being promoted simply for getting along better with other supervisors, and some employees going on extensive group smoke breaks even during peak hours. That said, the experience as a whole isn't all bad, but it all depends on who you work with.  

What is the best part of working at the company?
The food. That's about it. Very delicious hot-pots. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not enough support from management. Very isolating and cliquey if you don't speak mandarin. And not at all forgiving when you make a mistake.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic. I wouldn't recommend working there if you're not already experienced in the industry.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Serving tables, learning the menu by heart.

Boiling Point is a good place to work at if you are just starting out and have no work experience. They offer decent pay with tip added per shift depending on how many hours you work. The work is fairly easy and the shifts are fairly balanced. It is a chill work place, however the management needs to be improved. The best part about the job is the tips you are earning during the winter times due to how busy it gets as well as the free meals and drinks you get when you are working.

The coworkers are all nice and fun but with the time goes on and on you will get drained out by the work load and you'd filter out toxic things. You can make decent amount of tips but the hours aren't steady. They'd let you go home early once the work is done. Not a bad gig for part time students and temporary workers though.

Manager is rarely around, but overworks the two people working front who seat customers, take orders, clean tables, make and run drinks, run food while doing takeout/ online orders even though it’s really busy, just to meet sale goals. I noticed no one here actually provides good customer service, especially since manager and some supervisors lack those skills themselves.

Great place to work. My location split the tips with the kitchen so we would have a good $20+ most days. Free food was also very good and would easily add another $20 daily. Management and HR was easy to deal with and very understanding. My one concern was being able to grow within as a westerner, but I believe other locations are more diverse.

Was fun working with my coworkers and enjoyed the 80% discount for food. Management was questionable and piled work onto workers after firing a lot of people. tips were good because there's little to no staff left. can't say the same about the other locations though

Great place for a first job. Decent workload and good tips during winter season. Free boba and friendly staff. Flexible scheduling. Pretty difficult to get the full 40 hours though so would mostly recommend this job for students. 

The coworkers are friendly, and there are plenty of staff meals, which is great. The boss is kind and genuinely cares about everyone’s feelings, making it a place where you truly feel a sense of belonging. Love it and really enjoy being here!
