If you plan on working for the summer I feel really bad for you. There is little to no ventilation(maybe a fan if your lucky) You will be sweating like crazy. Its hot humid and gross in there. Just about everything is coated in a gross black dust which you are probably breathing in the whole time you work there. Some part of the building has conveyors over your head which seems to drop solidified chunks of that black dust which falls allover your head and skin, which you also probably breathe in. Huge hazard that they only address by vacuuming some parts of the conveyor to clean some of it(no actual plan to fix it). If you are the last person to complete a task/order you become responsible for the faults of everyone else that has worked on it. Very unfair. All fulltime and part-time employees get a small bonus every quarter IF production standards are met. You sometimes get free stuff for holidays. If you work there long enough you get a reimbursement for steel toe shoes. I would recommend working here if you are desperate and this is a last resort as you will not be moving up in this workplace. They also expect you to cut your breaks 3 minutes earlier so that by the time your break is over you are back at your work station. You basically only get 12 minute breaks and a 27 minute lunch by their standards. You are monitored 24/7 about production efforts and how long you take your breaks for. After a whole 8.5 hour shift here all there is left to do is lay in bed until the next morning comes, that's how exhausting the work is. This company will squeeze every penny out of you, nobody speaks up and it shows, because that's how they get away will all this.

I've worked at this company for two years, it started off well enough the hours were reasonable and the job wasn't difficult. As of this year though it's been getting worse, we very briefly had paid sick days (two per year for part-time staff) in 2018 but those were taken away without warning. Staff are now highly encouraged to come in to work regardless of their health and are expected to make up time when they take days off. A lot of their employees are full time students so that is not always possible. There is very little reward for doing good work (at least for part time staff). Even if your times are quite high you will receive very little acknowledgement. You'll probably just end up doing the same thing for your whole time there, especially if you're good in one area. I've done the exact same job every shift for about a year and a half. I don't mind too much but that's because I only work part time so it doesn't get completely monotonous. The management staff are quite nice and competent but overall it seems as though things have been getting more and more corporate and they care about their employees less and less. 
The staff themselves are mostly alright, if you keep to yourself for the most part you'll be fine. Some of them are incredibly negative however and there's been problems with offensive comments and rude behavior.

The typical day if you know and get along with the bosses is good. If not you are stressed all the time. In the department I was in was all favoritimis. Management is very bad there for most of the departments there. When I was in one department everything was great and awesome. Then out of nowhere they moved me to another and that department is the worst managed one and they always get overloaded with work. I did not learn anything from them. They are disorganized and lack the understanding of people getting sick and you can't approach management because then you get mad and use it against you for your raises that they give other people. Most of the people working are friendly and very understanding and they check in on you. The hardest part of this is the disorganization and their merit system puts people to stress out because you run around like crazy trying to get them what they need then to be told it's worthless your running all the previous months. The only enjoyable thing is the friends that see you suffer and the books. I stopped showing up to work because of their merit system was taking a toll on my mental health and developed serious migraines. My other friend ended up in the mental health hospital and wanted to committ suicide

Book depot is a great place to work Monday to Friday holidays and weekends off. That's where the good stops... Management only wants to hear one side of a story so if your not first than expect a write up... Gossip, and bullying, again if your not first to speak to management expect a write up... If something is wrong on a shelf and your the last to touch it again expect a write up...

There's few management staff that are good, but the rest are horrible... 

The afternoon shift has a turn over of about 80%... Sense I have started they have hired at least 30 plus staff with only a few staying... The supervisors love write ups, there's no coaching, there's no forgiveness, if you have an opinion or suggestion don't count on it being heard... They have blue sheets but if a supervisor don't like how its filled out it won't be processed...

Worked here for several years and unfortunately saw a noticeable decline in management consistency and workplace morale over time. Policies were often enforced unevenly depending on the employee, which created frustration within the department. Safety concerns regarding equipment were not always addressed with the urgency expected in a warehouse environment.

Many hardworking employees cared about doing a good job, but communication and leadership practices made the workplace increasingly stressful. I would recommend improving accountability, consistency, and responsiveness to employee concerns moving forward.


I did love book depot. They showed me how to mature and become a better person, when I was there. They are such a friendly and kind environment that is there. I made many friends.
I went on saturday's mostly and worked from 7-2 (i think) and I would most likely be on packing but sometimes I'd be put on stickering. Anyways before we start we have to be at the Supervisor's desk to get our job for the day before the bell or else we would be late. Then that would be our job for the day. The hardest part of the day would be not talking to anyone because I am a talker and you aren't allowed to leave your station so you were in the same place for the entire day. The most enjoyable part was making friends and I still have my one friend I talk to sometimes.

The best moments I had while working here involved my fellow warehouse workers. I made some great friends as a student worker. However, student workers were treated terribly by full time staff as they were blamed for all errors (even though I found the students to be some of the better workers). Even highly productive workers would be micro managed to ensure that they weren't chatting too much. The heat in the summer was almost unbearable. Felt like a number. And didn't like the implementation of their productivity tracking as it basically discouraged any worker from stopping work for any reason. I really didn't love my experience as a part time worker and could perceive that full timers were treated with more respect. 

Thus workplace  drove me to the point my doctors gave me several months off due to the stress, the company doesn't do anything other than the bare minimum when the ministry comes in, who, they're quite familiar with. Upper management has no idea how to deal with logistics and overstocked their main warehouse to the point they closed the only physical location and turned it into a secondary warehouse where they send their product to store. If you complain about unsafe conditions youll likely not have anything fixed and when you have to take time off, especially for hospital visits, it will be reflected in your merit review. Oh, and the owner is a Christian White Nationalist. Avoid. Go anywhere else.

It was a good job to start off with, being a student and only working saturday. After they took away the Saturday shift I had no issue with the given hours. It's an easy job but the supervisors play favoritism. If you were the last one to come in contact with a title that has an issue you get written up. You take your 15 and 30 mins for your break instead of when they tell you to go back before and you get written up  Other staff are fine but a lot of them gossip and bully. Supervisors don't listen to you unless you're one of their favourites. If you have an issue and it regards your health the supervisors don't seem to care, they'll write you up and expect you to come in. I would not reccomend anybody I know to work there.
