When Tristan first reached out to me because they needed a new graphic designer, I was very excited. My last job was not the most fun and I was happy somewhere else there was someone who was seeing potential in me.

The job seemed cool, and the managers at the time (who have since been replaced, twice) were very motivated and creative. The team was the same. Unfortunately, this did not last, and the team changed entirely (people quit, people were fired) and I ended up not once, but twice holding the department together with the small remnants of the team. This was worth it, for me, because the tasks and the potential this job had for my carreer was very nice, being the only one with my role in the department.

In January, new management was once again announced, and at first it was very motivating. New ideas, new way of working, etc. It's only when things settled down that it started to change, with more micromanagement and, eventually, a restructuring of the company involving my role being cut as well as others in the department. 

A job where I would have spent more time working.


It is a typical retail job, with no room for advancement in the company. There is a high turnover rate with employees. However, are flexible with scheduling. Fun environment for students but nothing more. The company doesn't really care about you and doesn't provide any benefits or appreciation. If you are looking for a basic, easy retail job with minimal effort it is a good place to work at. The manager tries to take your sales sometimes, mostly because numbers matter for them. Training is short, you just learn how to cash people out; returns and closing/opening are reserved for key holders. The usual workday is slower than most place, so most time is spent spacing out clothes, doing shipment or matching fallen tags to clothing; the other time is spent talking to associates.

I learned a lot working with this company. Every day was a positive day, we was always motivated and always lifted to do the best we can, in very nice & friendly way. My co-workers became great friends, that I still keep in touch with them. It wasn't to hard to sell merchandiser, since "Tristan" carries high quality clothing and it speaks for itself, people just loves it. 
My store manager was very understanding, helping to perform great at my role and just in general  she is an awesome person, with the most sunny personality. I was never afraid to ask for the day off or talk about issues (work related or personal ones). 
This job of course had some ruff days, but we always had fun and made the best of any bad day! 
I enjoyed working at Tristan very much, and always remember this place with such a good feeling!

Tristan is a well established clothing brand in Quebec and has a great office : these are the only pros. 

Managers and higher level employees are extremely patronizing, condescending and make you feel as though you are beneath them and incompetent. There is a lot of micromanagement and closemindness to new ideas or different opinions. The ambiance is the complete opposite of welcoming.

There seems to be a huge issue with management and directors that urgently needs to be adressed and fixed. 

All other employees were great, and I will say that the CEO was very kind and hard-working.

It is always fun working in TRISTAN store. Co-operative and supportive management willing to nail your skills as a sales associate. As they know the importance of sales person to create loyal customer pool and service satisfaction, well-trained employees are strength of TRISTAN. Sales goals and commissions motivates to the employees. During off- season it is hard to meet the sales goal but training and motivation by the management helps keeping customer and employees happy. The most enjoyable part of the job is to style the customers and represent the TRISTAN as a best.

It can be very slow at work, where I like to keep myself busy. I did learn how to manage the store in a slower environment and how to be a better Assistant Manager. Management could be better and organized but it has it's moments here and there. I haven't been properly challenged yet, still waiting to see what I can improve myself on. There hasn't been that many enjoyable moments except with the people I work with.

Management does not value the employee's opinions at all. They are extremely behind on current trends but when you try to make changes, event the smallest ones, that you were hired to do, they will fight you. It is very frustrating and exhausting. They offer pretty much no benefits and low-ball you on the salary, basically very cheap company. No one is motivated nor engaged and they have a high turnover rate. 
I would avoid this company at every cost.

A typical day is to conduct a daily Walk Through to ensure the environment is ready for business

I had the opportunity to learn that customers needs are important, and that it's important to listen to their NEED.

The hardest part of the job is not being able to satisfy every client.

The most enjoyable is having the opportunity to develop a Team.

I was there for just over 6 months and I moved up quickly. We had some management issues but the district manager was great and very supportive.  The pay scale needed reworking but that may have changed since then. Overall I can't complain, they treated their employees well and I wasn't over-worked. It was just your typical store, sell, clean and count cash.
