Overall, a great place to work at. It has a lot opportunity for personal growth. I have gained more knowledge and skills on the job. I have been able to implement the activities and skills in my own life. I take pride in the rapport I have built within my house hold with the clients. I appreciate all that I have seen and been able to experience while working at this service. Everyday I learn something new and about myself too. Brain injuries are a real thing and we do not know much until we work with it everyday. I find myself lucky to have been apart of my clients journey's into regaining their independence. I enjoy supporting my clients in all their goals and dreams. I hope to continue my work and also challenge myself more with keeping my options open for other opportunities to learn.

Great wages. Good benifts, burn out rate incredibly high. Union isn't the best.  Staff stopped going above and beyond because you never get recognized, or even a thank-you from anyone. They never listen to the front line staff, and chose programming that would never work,but looks good on paper. House's are always short staffed, and doubles are frequent. Quality of life for the clients is deplorable…especially for the lower functioning one's. Abuse of their rights are frequent from certain staff and goes unnoticed.  Budgets are more important then anything else. They applaud unhealthy weight from the clients.   Doesn't take harassment of any kind seriously. Huge disconnect between floor staff and management and office staff. Glad I'm no longer there and have moved on.

The people and staff i work with are the only positive in this agency. Directors and managers who spend no time with clients are the ones who direct their rehablitation; and, no body else has any input. They only respect people with letters behind thier names regardless of work experience. Someone who has never set a foot in a high behavioural residential rehabilitation program directs a 20-year veteran who worked 12 years on the floor and who is also a behaviour therapist. They have no interest in making things smoother and easier; it's all about doing things in the event we ever got sued. Things change on a daily basis; people are working 10-12 hour days...its ridiculous.

I have truly enjoyed working with this company. It came at the right time in my life because I wanted to find out what types of jobs and careers I can excel in and helping people was always something I have been passionate about. I have been able to exercise therapeutic skills when helping clients problem solve and have learnt the importance of communication while working with a team of people, each shift.
Through working at BIS, I have only been motivated to keep going in my schooling, get my degree and move up within this line of work-be it here or with another agency.

I loved the essence of my various positions.  I worked with a wonderfully diverse client population. Other staff are dedicated team players with a passion for people. 

Management is difficult to work with. At one point we hired an external professional to identify reasons for low staff morale. The position is high stress and extremely physical.  As we work with a variety of clients with a myriad of physical and cognitive deficits, there is a lot of personal care involved.  Medication administration is required.

As a Rehabilitation Facilitator my job was to implement established strategies and behavior management programs under the direction of case workers. Using ethical framework implemented oversight of physicians to achieve personal goals. In the course of providing care in actives of daily living and personal independence, I assist in provide clients with high-quality directives and guidance throughout the day to em-power clients to make choices to maximize client abilities to improve the quality of one's life.

BISH was probably the worst job I have ever had. Management hang your job over your head. Athough most staff would go over and above what was required, it was never enough . Management never gave positive feedback and then would wonder why morale was so low. People would start their job happy and have a great attitude, only to realize that the place has no respect for staff and clients.

Often short staffed, which leads to high burn out rates. Management at head office hasn't seemed to have found a viable solution to this on-going issue. Some houses can be a toxic environment to work in due to "clique-ness".
Overall, great rate of pay, benefits for full & part-time employees.
Not a lot of opportunities to advance career, even when with the company long-term. In-company experience is not deemed valuable when applying for management positions.

I worked for Brain Injury of Hamilton for 3 years and I loved it, we were constantly going out in the community and trying to fulfill highest quality of life for them. There was also great staff at BISH and the home I was at.  I grew to have a great relationship with each individual at that I was grateful for.

Many of these reviews are written by the HR/PR team due to constant short staffing amd wanting to look good. No one wants to be honest about the lack of job security, honesty, work life balance and care for their employees. Ruthless, unethical practices to create a fear culture in staff. Morale is at an all time low which affects client care.
