I worked here for a few short months, I usually can last a very long time at establishments I work at but this one took the cake. Everyone was miserable from day one when I started working there. I had supervisors even ask me why I was working there and not getting a better job easily. That was red flag number one. They under pay staff and the night shift workers were often talked down too by management even though they worked the worst shift. The tips for being a front of house worker were the smallest I’ve ever seen. At the location I worked at we had a severe fly problem, had people complain to us on the daily and management did little to nothing to help us with the problem. Not only was it a bad atmosphere to work in, if you call in sick or have a family emergency management will guilt you and ask you to find cover for your own shifts (a coworker of mine presented covid symptoms and was made to feel guilty and come into work putting us all at risk) hands down I would think twice about accepting a job offer here. This place put a toll on a lot of employees mental health. 

working at breka cafe was a positive experience that allowed me to develop strong customer service and teamwork skills. the workplace had a fast-paced environment, especially during busy hours, but the team members were supportive and willing to help each other. i appreciated the opportunity to interact with a variety of customers and improve my communication skills while providing friendly and efficient service. the job helped me become more organized, adaptable, and comfortable handling multiple tasks at once, including taking orders, preparing food and drinks, and maintaining a clean workspace. management was generally approachable and provided guidance when needed. overall, breka was a good place to gain valuable work experience, build confidence, and learn how to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. it is a great opportunity for individuals looking to develop customer service skills in a welcoming café setting.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Very friendly and helpful staff, great manager (depends on location, my experience was at the Bute St location).

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Dealing with disrespecful customers, when you have to stay calm, kind and respectful. That is very stressfull.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Collegues are very nice, we had some traditions, like gift exchange during Christmas or Halloween, everyone is helpful to each other, no stressing over asking for help/questions.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Refilling the showcase, organizing, making and serving orders, taking payments/giving the change. Lots of talking to cusomers.

The interview process was simple and the interviewer was kind. The location I worked at had kind people, however as one of the busier locations, not much connections made. Management however was messy and unsupportive. Responses to inquiries and messages were delayed or not replied to at all, causing a lot of the shift leads to pick up the slack. The people working there were mostly lovely, but management severely lacks in support and communication, sometimes feeling like it was targeted against me. Location seemed to be always hiring, which is telling due to the lack of support. 

This place is good for gaining experience, but the team environment is disappointing. There is almost no proper training, yet they expect you to know everything. When mistakes happen, they don't give you private feedback. Instead, they point out your mistakes in front of the whole team, which feels unprofessional. Also, the team leader often speaks negatively about staff behind their backs, focusing on their mistakes or calling them incompetent. I wouldn't recommend this environment if you value a supportive workplace.

People are very friendly. You can get easily along with them. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Stress-full but productive making cakes batch of cakes. But given that this is a fast-face working environment, you’ll get used to it after sometimes.

Very diverse!!!❤️ Different nationality are working but still understanding and respecting each & everyone. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Long lines, loud coffee machine, sounds of people chatting means the business is doing good!

Working at Breka Bakery was an exhausting and disappointing experience. The constant crowds and non-stop tasks left no time for breaks, and the management was incredibly unsupportive. The manager displayed a blatant disregard for employee well-being, often responding with anger and threats when discussing schedule changes. The work environment felt hostile, and there was no appreciation for the hard work put in by the staff. Breka treats its employees as disposable, prioritizing profits over people. If you're considering a job here, be aware of these issues and weigh your options carefully.

You learn multiple stations and when you're trying to learn you may need to ask questions which triggers everyone on staff to become grumpy and hostile.
Then you learn to basically do the job on your own and get reprimanded for asking too many questions anyway, even though you had basically stopped asking anyone anything because doing so makes them mad at you again.
Horrible hours, low pay, constantly busy, and certain coworkers were bullying gossips.

I quickly found a better job. Don't do this to yourself.

It’s hard as a trainee to memorize all the menus and get familiar to do all the four tasks that are needed to be done when working 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Hectic , out of energy when getting off work, too tiring, stressed

Fast-paced environment. Little bit dangerous because not all the staff have food safe level and some not aware of running in the kitchen or telling they’re behind you. Even sometimes never knock freezer when coming out.
Some will be generous to new staff but some are not. Very strict always watching on camera. No phones allowed for safety issue. Depends on your manager pay raise are very low, some are generous.
Don’t have learning step or manual for that.
