The following is strictly from my experience with the GVA branch (Vancouver BC and Langley BC branches). 

The supervisors and upper management were more interested in playing office politics and showing off their little-to-non powers to the road employees. Obviously this does not apply to EVERY supervisor and/or management personnel. But you have supervisors who like to threaten to get road employees in trouble, do not work their full shifts (because they are on salary), have extremely limited knowledge of what the road employees actually do, etc.

The job itself is very easy (for those who have brains), but the management like to get their relatives who are unable to follow simple logic to complete tasks into the company. Those who are able and competent get loaded with more work and responsibilities, all while those who are lazy and incompetent get tasked with the simplest jobs that require no effort.

Working for them will hardly feel self-rewarding as you watch your lesser colleagues get paid the same, if not more than, as you while doing significantly less work than you. Management likes to play favorites. They also cannot do what is best for the company. For example, they let two of (very rarely I mind you) fully trained employees go by giving them the stay-full-time-or-quit ultimatum, simply for wanting to step down from full-time hours to part-time. They were both going back to school to better themselves. There is NOT A SINGLE supervisor who is even close to being full trained (meaning capable of completing any tasks from both the armour and ATM divisions). These were simply power plays with politics over business/management in mind.

If you are looking to be inspired or heading towards policing for your career, this looks good on your resume. But staying long term would be very unwise. Your time is better off spent bettering yourself at school or apprenticeship so you can be beyond this.

Lastly, yes the management is purely awful, however this does not apply to road employees. There are lots of friendly, nice, mature and seasoned armoured officers.

A typical day at Brinks: show up to work, sign in, and don whatever parts of the uniform you did not elect to wear during your commute. Once at work you are required to equip/maintain in a safe manner your firearm and connect with your teammate for the day. Go to the vault, get more equipment including truck keys, check over the deliveries if you are the messenger or check over the truck if you are the driver. Load up the deliveries, open the garage door, and head on your merry way to the customers/ATMs you are loading. Return at the end of the day and sign in your equipment as well as give cash pick ups from customers to the vault clerk.

Learned: went through Brink's security program, learned a bit about shooting, learned about Brink's security protocols. Got to see how ATMs are filled, also get to see how cash flows from the bank out to the average Joe.

The two-person management team are extremely unprofessional and at times a hazard to the workplace. Poor communication. Can't really say more without breaching confidentiality, too bad they don't have the same attitude.

The Commodities staff are a delight. Commodities do inventory management, and don't generally need unionised employees in their part of the building so chances are good you won't be working with them (which is a shame!)

90% of the coworkers are great, there are a few people with tempers that can make things awkward. For the most part everyone is good to work with and has a positive attitude.

Some cons:

- Long wait times before full-time positions becomes available.

- Unionised which is mostly neutral but can be bad.

- The BR vests are very hot in the summer.

- MANAGEMENT IS VERY POOR. BAD COMMUNICATION AND NO UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORK AND HOW THE JOB IS DONE

The most enjoyable part of the job:

-Getting on a good run with a good coworker and getting underwork.

-The independence of going out and planning your route for the day makes it feel less like drudgery. Regular customers can be friendly too.

-Driving the big truck!

-The uniform and having the privilege of wearing a firearm for work


Been with Brinks for almost 10 years. Work/life balance is based on your lifestyle, don't make plans after work because the end time isn't guaranteed, most full time is **night shift** so if you don't like the idea of working nights then its wise not to take a full time spot if it ever happens.  

A lot to know about the job but once you know it the job is straight forward and if you have a good partner it can be very enjoyable even at the worst of times.

Part time get overtime after 8hrs and can pick their availability on a weekly basis but if they're short staffed management try and pressure you into working when you cannot.  Full time schedules are picked in order of seniority and it can take years to move up to a decent schedule because of constant cuts and contract losses.  The union CBA is a double edged sword, full time have to take vacation in weekly blocks (which is done in order of seniority), cannot take individual days until you have 4 weeks of vacation which is rare to get to.

A lot of truck issues, breaking down, electronics not working sometimes, even security equipment fails at times.

Poor communication a lot of times.

I started working for Brinks In 2009, I had a little girl that was not in daycare and a husband who lost his job due to being laid off. So when i started i learned alot about the aspects of money, being in a security building, having been cleared to work for such a demanding job, i was happy. As the year went on i was trying to do my best with keeping up but with home life, my husband finding a new ft job working almost 50 hours a week and no daycare it was hard so i did end up talking to them and explaining the situation and with hours already being cut back they laid me off in 2010. The business was good, the people were good just management and company background was not the best and once you are in working you realize more and more. I did like working there tho, i took pride in making sure all was right when it came too deliveries and making sure all money added up properly. The hardest part of the job was just knowing how there system was when it came to disbursting the money to different offices, i would have to say the most enjoyable part would have been the co workers, all were down to earth and took me in like there own and helped me learn all that needed to be known about Brinks and how there company worked. 

I worked in the Guard/ Driver/ Messenger position. The Union will eventually be of benefit to you, but the job as a career is very unsatisfying. Without the union this job would be intolerable as Brinks will seek out every opportunity to reprimand you in one form or another as they attempt to keep you strictly under their thumb every minute of ever day. Because of the nature of the job there is a tremendous degree of mistrust directed upon its employees even though the screening required to get the position is over the top.  If you are a driven person you will very quickly become bored and unsatisfied working at Brinks. The work is repetitive and unexciting. Its a delivery service with a gun. The daily time lines are to tight every day to deliver a quality of work that one wishes to deliver. Brinks is all about Brinks and the employees are treated more like drones then an asset. If you want nothing more in life but to preform a menial days work for very average pay, this job may be for you.

Cool job but the dinosaurs that have 25 years of service will never retire and give a job to someone younger. They also are incredibly entitled and think that they shouldn’t have to work as hard as the new hires, and try and get things taken off their run and added to the part timers run so they can finish early and get paid underwork. There’s a stupid 2 tier pay scale where full timers can make way more money than part timers, even after you’ve been a pet timer for 5 years.  It will also take 10 years to get a chance at a full time job working every weekend. Honestly I thought this was going to be a great opportunity and incredible career. But with  full timers sticking around until there 95 makes it hard to get anything full time. Management is great and they understand part timers frustration with the lazy full timers. But $22 a hour is not enough for a armed guard position where your risking your life to deliver cash to banks who could care less about your existence. 

They sell the place as a golden apple but once your in it's rotten on the inside. The blind leading the blind administration has no real trucking experience never really did from one branch manager to the next . It was more like and old boys club!  thanks for being here so long you deserve the manager position type deal! Yeah something special.  A micro management operation real ridiculous no confidence but in themselves alway seen a superior then others! All good management has pushed aside and 
Other that weren't have moved on to bigger and better thing's . The armored industry is dying out slowly less and less people has cash on them it has all become electronic so that means no more armored runs which in turn means less employees which means no need for more employees.... ? Also Montréal Brinks is so far behind the 8 ball in modern-day technology they are still workin with carbon copies. Hello people 2024 comming get with the program. This is just my point of view after 19 years of experience at brink and visiting all  other branches across north America and having a comparison. 

Working at Brinks as an Armored Guard was one of the worst professional experiences I’ve ever had. From day one, the environment was unwelcoming, hostile, and completely lacking in professionalism.
Co-workers were rude, cliquish, and borderline bullies.

 There was zero support for new hires — instead, you're thrown into the deep end with people who seem more interested in mocking you than helping you succeed. Management either turns a blind eye or actively contributes to the toxic atmosphere.

Disrespect is the norm here. You’re expected to deal with long hours, intense responsibilities, and dangerous conditions, all while being treated like garbage by the very people who are supposed to be on your team. If you speak up, you're ignored or retaliated against.
If you value your mental health, self-respect, or any kind of healthy work-life balance, do yourself a favor and stay far away from this place. Brinks needs a serious overhaul in culture and leadership.



ONLY good part about this place is the hourly wage with no education or specialized training

Negative aspects- the list goes on
- people are racist ( Vancouver area is mostly Indian people)
- unionized place which means people are lazy and stupid
- management are clueless and play favorites all the time
- Managers have double standards and say one thing but mean something else and changes their mind all the time
-  not enough hours each week if your willing to work night; which is not worth it for a part timer
- morale is the worst
Very little to no training and is expected to perform the same as people that have been there for years
- all except one supervisor know whats going on in the company as most supervisors are dumb and dont' know whats going on
- Punjabi is used more than English in the GVA branch.. and its totally fine. But if other languages are used, then you get yelled at
- work schedule is changed multiple times as the supervisors keeping screwing up or people calling in sick to get extra day off

HIGH turnover, people don't even last 6 months

Management purposely goes out of their way to try and get employees in trouble. Makes unreasonable deadlines to get work done and then writes you up for not getting it done "on time" . Unsafe work conditions. The vehicles had over 1 million kms on them and were literally falling apart. No brakes,  mechanical issues because they would refuse to fix them. Low pay for carrying a firearm and millions of dollars in money. Long shifts on dangerous roads with no reception to call for help if needed. They said there was a satellite phone but never let us have it. 
Staff was unhappy and trying to backstab each other. 

Company wouldn't even pay for ballistic vest unless you were full time but never hired full time because they would have to pay benefits. Instead, part timers were expected to work fulltime hours anyway. 

Honestly, the worst place I have ever worked in my life.
